Which song do you like best for a DVD slideshow? If you have suggestions, feel free to make them. Mandarine''s recent thread on this topic got me thinking about our own wedding. We can''t decide so I thought I''d ask what you thought.

I totally heart Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts, but for a wedding DVD my vote went to "When You Say Nothing At All." There is version from the movie Notting Hill that I LOVE...let me see if I can remember who sang it...Ronan Keating. Here ya go:

I''m a big fan of Van Morrison, so that got my vote! I actually love Allison Kraus, and I like her singing "You say it best," but her version is probably a bit too squeaky or breathy or some quality I can''t pin down for a wedding video. I have heard the version on the "Knotting Hill" soundtrack, but even when I hear someone else singing it, in my head I still hear Allison Kraus.

Thanks Sabine! I know you''re a Van Morrison fan too -- I think both our first dances are to the same tune (Someone Like You). I know we''ll have all of these songs played at our reception, but I was trying to think of a great song (or a few, depending on how many our photographer will use for the DVD) to use.

It''s funny you mentioned Allison Krauss. I played her version for my FI last night and he didn''t like it. I haven''t played him the one from Notting Hill yet but I will later today.

I <3 John Mayer, so I would go with him myself.

Normally I''d comment on the other songs and say that they''d all be good (because I think that''s almost always the case!), but I don''t know most of the other songs in your list, Zoe!

I''d go with the Van Morrison one-I think that it would sound great on a wedding dvd

Hang on...I'll post links...

True Companion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnaC6cgUmXc

Bless the Broken Road: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6zrE2149v8

the Coffee Shop song : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPS0VEYL-Dg (I think Xapora used this one for their DVD)

Collide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTz7rhommHI

Gravity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VBex8zbDRs

When You Say Nothing at All: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuJrEBtmM1Q (this is by Allison Krauss originally but the one we'd probably use is this version by Ronan Keating -- featured in "Notting Hill")

Have I Told You Lately: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUafTOKXv1c

Here's our first dance (Someone Like You by Van Morrison): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3Q4Dti2Hb0 (Sabine's using this one also!)

Oh, I love "Someone Like You!" Always makes me think of Bridget Jones and how much I love Mark Darcy. Very romantic.

Considering you''ll be doing your first dance to Van Morrison, maybe it would be nice to have it tied in, and use "Have I Told You Lately"?

As far as the songs on their own merits go, I still like John Mayer (biased) and I thought the Coffee Shop song was sweet too.

I am a HUGE Marc Cohn fan, and I LOVE "True Companion." Great song. MH and I have been to several of his concerts and he is wonderful, we love him.
So you know who my vote goes to....

Hi Dani,

I am too! I''m not sure how well known he is -- no one that I know really knows him until I say that he did Walking in Memphis. Then it''s like, "oh yeah, NOW I know who he is." My sister knows his daughter, actually, and I think she''s met him a few times. We''ve only been to one of his shows but I''d love to see another one. It''s funny, I always said that True Companion would be my first dance song (even before I met my FI). That one line though, "make love to you just like a true companion" is what makes me hesitate now. It makes me blush.

i LOVE the ronan keating version of when you say nothing at all...it was a top contender for our first dance song (but didn''t win) but DID make the cut for one of the songs on our wedding video.

Just out of curiosity, ginger, what did win?

So happy the links are up!
I hadn''t heard many of those.

I love the True Companion song. It''s so perfect for the wedding video.

I think that one gets my vote, along with your LOVELY first dance song (which just made my playlist).

Ha, ha, Zoe, you are so funny!! I truly LOL'd when I read your post.....Its so true about Marc Cohn...no one really knows him until you tell people he sings "Walking in Memphis" and then their like, "oh yeah!" But no one really knows any of his other stuff though. MH and I have been huge fans for a long time..I have been listening to him since I was in my teens...just adore him....and he is a hottie too-LOL!!!!

Hubby and I so wanted to make "True Companion" our first dance song, but for the same reasons you stated, we decided to choose something else...I totally agree with you re: that one line. Such a pretty song though!!!!

I LOVE True Companion...its seriously one of my favs! One of my dearest friends at work pointed it out to me one night a few years ago and ever since then its been in the back of my head as something I''d like to be played at my wedding. If you don''t use it for your DVD slideshow, you have to at least play it!~

Dani,

I agree! I''ll have to watch out for more shows coming to the Boston area. I just about melted when he sang TC. It will be played at our reception even if we don''t use it for the DVD. I can see it now, dancing away on the dance floor with my new husband and then BAM -- that line -- I fall to the floor in hysterics!

Yeah, the "make love to you just like a true companion" part makes me a little uneasy, too. With very conservative famliies, it probably might raise an eyebrow. However, if its not something that bothers you, the song is perfect.

However, I was browsing through youtube after thinking about this and there is one where it was used for ice skating and they cut the vocal out of those two lines and just had the music behind it playing...it sounded great, but I'm not sure anybody has access to that version.

Really???? I have to check it out. I got all the links from YouTube but I can''t remember if I saw the one you mentioned. Our photographer wants us to make a CD for her of the songs we''re considering. I wonder if she can fool around with it and edit the vocals out of that line. Thanks for mentioning it!!

Have I told you lately gets my vote as it was our first dance song!

I found it!! Dani, here ya go.

I have no idea how we''d be able to do the same thing though. Any ideas? It seems harder than I thought but I don''t know much about editing music.

Oh, yes!! That''s so pretty, and unless you know that song REALLY REALLY well, no one would even notice. I would see if your band/ DJ could edit that one line out for you...that would work out perfectly if they could!!!!

I like the Van Morrison song, the lyrics are really sweet and hold a lot of meaning.

The rest seem like country songs and I do not do country. Except John Mayer but I''m not into him either.

Hey Zoe, neither Alison Krauss nor Ronan Keating were the original singers of "When you Say Nothing At All." This is one of the top contenders for my first dance song, and I''m a big fan of the original version by Keith Whitley. IMO the rest don''t do it justice. Here''s a link to what someone posted on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lLPGgiMWXQ

Thanks Harleigh! I like that Ronan Keating song. I feel like I''ve seen him before -- was he in a band or something? He seems familiar to me and I''m not sure why (I don''t think I know many of his songs).

Scm, I like some country but it seems like most of what I like happen to be crossover songs -- songs that could be played on radio stations other than solely country stations.

Sap, I didn''t know "When You Say Nothing At All" was originally sung by someone other than Allison Krauss. I like the Keith Whitley one but I *think* I like Ronan Keating''s a little more. It''s a great song though, no matter who sings it.

Hi Zoe,

I''m so glad you like that song! I don''t remember exactly how I found Ronan Keating or that particular one, but I came across it awhile back and fell in love with it, so had looked up some of his other work. I think it was when I was looking for all of the links to include with my CD song choices so Rusty could just listen to them instead of him having to try to find them on his own, and Ronan Keating''s song was one of the options for the Keith Whitley/Alison Kraus song as he also does a version of "When You Say Nothing at All."

He is a huge hit in his homeland of Ireland and is also in a band called "Boyzone." I personally don''t care for any of their stuff as a band, but some of his solo work is just great! And since I''m Irish, it makes me like him a little bit more! You can check him out HERE. You may be thinking the name sounds familiar as N''Sync did a song with the same name, but they are completely different songs, but he does different versions of more songs than I can count!

And, for the record, I personally like the Keith Whitley version of "When You Say Nothing at All" better as that''s what I remember hearing growing up, but Rusty really likes Alison Kraus, so if we use it on our CD, it will probably be her version, which I''m okay with.

Hope that helps!

I LOVE Coffee Shop!!!

FI''s favorite right now is Breath.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHthixDkAb0
Angels and airwaves - Breath

Anotehr important factor to consider is the lenght of the song!!! That''s also why FI loved Breath...it''s long, so we''ll get a longer video recap ;)

Hi Mandarine!

I really like Breathe too! Why is the song put to a different video? I hadn''t seen that one before. Interesting...

My FI and I met at a coffee shop so that one''s definitely going to be used for the slideshow. Isn''t it a great song? We''re still looking for other songs also.
