My fi and I are in the beginning planning stages and are trying to secure a venue in the next few weeks. Before we had started the venue hunt we had settled on a black and white damask motif w/ apple green accents and had chosen October for our wedding month. We are looking to do something a little unique but not too out there. Currently, the two front runner venues are:

A.) http://www.letsplanawedding.com/rvt.php?rid=211, which is stunning inside and out. It is an old theater building and we both love the venue. The drawbacks are that we would have to move the wedding up to August (2009) and we are not sure what colors would work in the room. I feel like the original black, white, and apple wouldn''t work for the space. It is also at the very top of our budget.

B.) http://www.letsplanawedding.com/rvt.php?rid=189 is an old train station. The room itself is beautiful and I think it would work well with our color scheme. The drawbacks are that it is a public train station so the areas outside of the room are not so pretty. Once guests are in the room though, there is a balcony and bathrooms etc. so it is not a problem once guests are inside, it is just the coming and going into the room that is ugly. It is also only a little cheaper than venue A for a venue that isn''t quite on the same par.

What would you do? Chose the beautiful venue A and change the colors and move it up two months? If so, what colors would you use? Or would you stick to the original colors and time frame, but have a less pretty venue?

Thanks for reading if you made it this far!

Both sites are beautiful, but the first one really is stunning! It also seems very neutral with the different browns... I really think you could do your black, white and apple green (which to me seems seasonless...).

With both are lovely, the first one is unquestionably better. The netruals will wirk with your color scheme and it is just so beautiful. I would be wary of a working train station since you might get the sound of trains coming and going as well. Great picks.

We were there visiting while a train was passing by and the train noise is not a problem. We are more worried about vagrants or crashers w/ it being a public space

The first venue is stunning. I think your colors will work there but I personally would go with ivory/black/green.

After looking at their individual websites, I question which is actually more beautiful. Throw some lighting in the train station, and you might be pleasantly surprised. I think it's more a question of understated elegance or high opulence.

RE: the colors... there should be absolutely no problem using black/white/green in August. When I think of those colors, actually, I think of spring and summer as opposed to autumn. You could use them anytime, but I don't think they fit thematically with autumn. So that shouldn't hold you back.

As for moving it up, well, which matters to you more? The atmosphere of the venue or the month in which you are married? For us, we had enough options (we live in LA) and we started early enough that we could essentially have our pick of month AND venue.

What is the reason that you'd have to move it up? Is October '09 already completely booked? I find that strange. August is a more popular month than October!

For easier comparison, here is the Rialto Ballroom (site A)...

And the Union Station Ballroom (site B)...

Thanks for posting those pictures Musey!

For the Rialto - they only allow weddings between Memorial Day and Labor Day because of their theater bookings during the fall/winter.

My color issues aren''t really the season, but the colors at the theater.

I think both are gorgeous but I personally like #2 better because it''s beautiful in a somewhat more understated way. It''s beautiful and intimate without it being too formal or over the top (not that over the top is a bad thing -- I hope you know what I mean). I hope that makes sense; both are really pretty!

I just scrolled down a bit farther and saw Musey''s photo comparison -- thanks for doing that. I still prefer #2.

And I think your color scheme of black, white, and green is great. I also like ivory instead of white -- maybe something to consider?

Both venues are gorgeous, and I personally like #2 better, but #1 is awesome as well. If you decide to go with #1, I think that a very slight modification of your color scheme would make all the difference -- so maybe ivory, charcoal, and sage or cilantro, rather than the harsher black, white, and apple. The venue just seems a little softer, if you know what I mean.

Is the date a real issue? There''s still lots of time, so you could do either one as far as the planning and stuff goes, but if you are set on October (like my FI is...he''s adamant about an October wedding), then #2 looks like an excellent choice, too. And you could always hire someone to "stand guard" at the door, to make sure nobody wanders in without an invite...

Thanks for the responses! After looking at both venues, I agree that ivory black and green would suit either better than the white.

Morgie44, I''m guessing you''re from the Chicago area. I am looking for places as well. I absolutely love the Chateau Busche'' and am really considering that place. But after looking at the Rialto Square Theatre I might take a look at that place as well.

Hey Corey!

We looked at Chateau Bu''Sche first actually, but it didn''t suit our needs. I thought that the atrium rooms were gorgeous, but they are too small for us - we are looking at about 220 people and we are looking for something a little more unique than the regular rooms there. Have you looked at Jacob Henry Mansion in Joliet? We are going to check that out on Saturday and are really hoping that it works out because the prices seem very reasonable! It looks like we have similar taste in venues... Where else have you looked?

I like the first venue better. It''s more ME. The other one is VERY opulent and would make me feel like everything had to be stepped up ten notches to match it-- if it''s already at the top of your price range, is it gonna cause you to up your budget in other places too (your dress, etc)? BUT it does bother me that the second place has problems with the entrance being ugly. Is there anyway you can make the entrance look nicer? Buy a couple of large topiaries and light them up? Or something like swags of greens and flowers? Flower petals on the ground or a nice inexpensive rug?

I think your colors would work best as they are (and I LOVE AND ADORE THEM) in that venue as well. I agree with softening them if you go with number two sage and more earthy... less modern contrasty tones would work best in number 2.
