I love both white gold and yellow gold. I tend to just get the color of gold that will best compliment the stone's color.Date: 10/19/2008 8:10:29 PM

Do you wear one color over the other? I have seen both blue and purple stones look good with white and yellow gold. I tend to like white better, and since the stone is a little lighter in tone, you might have to worry about yellow gold prongs causing an effect on the color. You you have a piticular setting picked out?
ETA: Is it a spinal?
It is, but I was refering to the first pic in the thread, which (on my monitor at least), looks...aquamarinish...just light blue, without any violet - that''s why I said that I''m not sure about yellow gold.Date: 10/20/2008 8:50:54 AM

Here''s a pic of it with more violet in it, and sitting in yellow. Sorry for the bad fuzzy pic, but the color is obvious.
I was thinking about that setting. Did you get yours yet? How do you like it, did you post pics of it yet? It's not a garnet.Date: 10/20/2008 9:42:54 AM

Ma Re,
No, it''s not iolite.
Yep, it''s a cuprian purple tourmaline!! You don''t see those everyday, but it''s more violet than purple. There''s alot more blue in the stone than any hint of pink.Date: 10/20/2008 6:00:29 PM

Is it a tourmaline? Personally I''d do white gold, but I like icy things more than warm things. A rich 18k yellow might be nice too.

Is the copper why it undergoes such a strong shift? It's a lovely stone. And huge.
Ditto that. But I look weird in yellow gold, so that probably has a lot to do with it!Date: 10/20/2008 6:00:29 PM

Thanks, when I got this, I was not only enthralled by the color, but the fact it changes colors!! There was no mention of the color change in the listing. It''s not the most gorgeous stone on earth, but I think it''s interesting and rare. Look how long it took everyone to even guess that it was a tourmaline, and that''s usually everyone''s first guess on an unknown colored stone! I was really amused by that, and happy as well.Date: 10/21/2008 9:02:05 AM

That is really neat, maybe one of our aspiring GG''s will chime in too. I love that blue, I wouldn''t heat it either. I know the Pariaba color is coveted, but I just love rich blues. Hold on to it, maybe some day you can loan it to a museum as an example of what tourmalines are supposed to look like!
