I know white gold with pallidium is whiter than those with nickel or other alloy metals. My question is are they rhodium plated too or is there an option to not have them plated? and do they stay white without rhodium plating unlike the ones with nickel?

I am not a jewelry expert, just a guy who is looking to buy a pink sapphire ring without nickel! I live in the UK, so there is next to no nickel in our white gold because of an EU directive (the ONE good thing it has done!!!) but I asked in a few jewelrs locally, the nicest one had its white gold with palladium, I don''t think it was plated. the high street store, (I think comparable to a mall store, high-street=main street=national chains etc) used something else... I forget what... I think it was iridium... but it was certainly rhodium plated. palladium is silver-white in colour, so I think that palladium is not plated and stays white, because I think the lady said that of the platinum type metals, palladium is closer to platinum... I believe that the rhodium plating does wear away, which is why I guess the more expensive store used palladium white gold... and I presume the reason the ones with nickel do not stay white is because the rhodium wears away and nickel is not particularly good but it is very cheap...

so to answer your question: I think that... a) they are not plated and b) they do stay white without plating

but I could be wrong on everything there and I probably am! so I am not sure that I''ve been any use to you at all there... sorry! I hope one of the experts can help you out!
