Who are the top democratic presidential candidates for 2020?

For the past 25-30 yrs the far left liberal professors on college campuses had been brainwashing our kids into socialism, thus the reason we have a Bernie Sanders today. Now the liberals have no idea on how to stop this monster that they created from being their party's nominee. If Trump vs Sanders in Nov. most of the modern Dems will vote for Trump.

I read your entire post and I hear you. I wanted to say one thing in reply, however. Remember that the popular vote doesn't matter. The electoral college is all that matters. Trump is liked in the heartland.

The electoral college hurts my heart

Buttigieg is out ... who’s next?

Trump vs Sanders wouldn't even be a close race.

Watch it, Dancing Fire! You must not have read what The Mother Thing posted! She is in charge of who can say what in this thread and she told me above:

This thread isn’t about Trump; it’s about the Dem candidates. But feel free to divert and distract from reality all you want ...

 Grow up, and get a better argument than "well Trump said ..." Your party’s hopes for a 2020 win are going down the drain with each dropping candidate because of all the finger-pointing at everyone/where else and misplaced focus the last three years. It’s not ‘Trump voters’ who will put him back in the WH; it‘s your party doing that.

Good!, b/c conservatives are tired of listening to all the far left liberal BS..

Yes, yes, of course. We will all vote for him. We are responsible for the atavistic folks who chant, "The Jews will not replace us!" and march with tiki torches.

And it is I who need to grow up?

But at least you're consistent. You are still telling me what to say. This time I am supposed to get a better argument than "well Trump said". (It is wonderful to have you here giving guidelines.)

By the way, I never posted anything about what Trump said; he is not worth quoting. I believe I said I didn't have the time or energy to bother quoting him.

I said (and you quoted) "But feel free to divert and distract from reality all you want ..." yet on you ramble, suggesting I am somehow censoring you. So yes, grow up.

If our party's hopes are going down the drain it's because imho we currently have a choice between 2 schmucks. But, regarding the bolded part of your statement above, you have precisely described trump's strategy for winning the first time, how he's spent the majority of his time in office, and how he will likely win again. I don't understand why it doesn't work for the dems. Perhaps they haven't reached the appropriate level of derangement.

Earlier in this thread several posters said that their most important goal in picking a Democratic candidate was to defeat Trump. Yet you didn't jump on them.

Defeating Trump is important to the topic of the Democratic primaries. There was no reason for you to say that my mentioning him was because I wanted "to divert and distract". We were discussing elections to defeat him, not how to make chocolate chip cookies. You just wanted me not to discuss him. In other words, you did want to censor me. But you are never honest about why you are snide.

IMO, the only Dem. who would have a chance of defeating Trump is Delaney.

@Matata IMO, the reason you have two schmucks to choose from ... lies within the following quoted post.

@AGBF I didn’t ‘jump on you’; in fact, I didn’t engage with you at all ... until you quoted me. Your mistake is assuming I was/am being snide; that’s a ‘you’ problem. I don’t give a hoot which political candidate you whine about ... and THAT is the God’s honest truth whether you accept it or not.

I don't envy the choices. A doddering old fool or a crazy old socialist.

As someone from the other side of the world, watching with some interest - if Bernie ran as the nominee with Gabbard and Yang in his team, I think Trump would be feeling very nervous. That's just my opinion though.

You just had to use the word "whine" when I am not a whiner, but a pretty factual poster.
Maybe you are just congenitally unable to be polite. Or factual.

Two pages later and you’re still dodging the actual on-topic points that I raised about a Dem candidate, instead deflecting with your weakly-veiled personal attacks and whining about my use of the word ‘whine’. I’d say your intentions are clear, and it’s not ‘polite‘ or ‘factual’ dialogue. Par for the course ...

Of any of the Dem candidates I liked Gabbard the most but of course that means she's too moderate if I like her. They want someone much further left.

I think the big ‘miss’ for Dems was not better supporting Gabbard & Buttigieg (not that I align much with their policies but do support both as vets/serving). Those two come/came across (to me as a non-Dem voter) as the most rational, measured, reasonable candidates on the left who spoke about issues more than just the usual negative, hate-filled rhetoric that’s been spouted by the other candidates for the last 3 years.

* * * Politics aside, Biden’s cognitive abilities are clearly declining; is that what you want in the WH, leading the country? Personally, I think it’s a sad someone hasn’t pulled Joe aside and ‘had a talk’ with him. This tells me one of two things: the Dem party is either in denial or isnt capable of detecting the obvious signs, or they flat out do not care and just want to ‘win’ (but not nominate a socialist) no matter how badly it shreds away at Biden’s dignity ... whatever he has left after this campaign. I don’t ‘hate’ Joe Biden, I legitimately feel sorry for him. I see the same signs in him as I saw in my grandparents who suffered with dementia & Alzheimers.

Seems really odd to me for someone to express such concerns re Biden while (seemingly) remaining a fervent Trump supporter.

Biden is a candidate for President of the country I happen to live in; and if he gets the Dem nod, is a choice for me to vote on in November. Why should I not be concerned? Does having an ‘R’ on my voter registration mean I am not entitled to an opinion or concern about another party’s candidates?

If that’s the case, someone majorly failed to distribute the memo to the ‘other side’ three years ago.

@redwood66 , what they consider far-left here would be centrist somewhere in the EU. I lived in country that started as far-left, but it is very different from what I see here.

For the fast 25-30 years, the politicians and the Supreme Court who were at power did something, too. They created another monster, and maybe this is why we shall end up with Bernie Sanders.

What did we see:
- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_United_v._FEC. The results are, the way I see it, that there is no difference between our parties. They vote the same, look at how our Democrats voted for the Sanders-Klobuchar bill..killed it....because both parties feed from the same nozzle.

- extreme monopolization of the country and merging of political and corporate wings.

Here. Emily Bresche, the CEO of Mylan and the daughter of our senator Joe Manchin.

(How is she better than Martin Shkreli? And Trump was accusing Biden whose son was merely on the board of a foreign company???) And Joe Manchin did not have to answer a bit for his possible role in an uneducated daughter becoming the CEO of the company.

- During these 25-30 years, we have witnessed an infamous, shameful Iraqi invasion. I can not tell you how in undermined US international prestige. I felt I was the only person in the country saying, before the invasion, “it will end up in nothing, and we shall leave Iraq to tribal war”. Which is exactly what happened.

- During these years...I don’t know, maybe Wall Street bailout was necessary. But the concrete people, the bankers, did not need to get off that lightly. This is Obama...

- When I came to the country, outsourcing was not so common. I don’t know what laws allowed it, but surely, our policy made it possible. This probably merits another study, but surely there are some loopholes, and our politicians have created them for our corporations.

We borrow, we live as there is no tomorrow. Our international debt is rising, and no single president is better than another.

During these years, we have also witnessed evangelical theocratization of a secular country. Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin and some other idiots praying at the Capitol.
Or this: https://www.christianpost.com/amp/t...s-prayer-meeting-cut-satan-power-capitol.html Is it even normal in the 21 century. (I am not against religion, go back and fourth on it, but please, dudes and dudettes, pray at home).

For all of this, you can not blame our left-wing professors. Our true leftists are somewhat demented, MOO, and poorly know economy, but they were not running the country during these years! Shrinking jobs at Midwest is what brought Trump to power. Maybe the same factor will bring in Sanders.

...whose ideas I am scared of. Not ideas per se - poor knowledge of economy...

It's my opinion that if what we today consider far-left someday becomes centrist, we'll have better environmental conditions but economic stagnation. On the one hand I feel deeply about preserving the environment, but on the other hand I don't want the US to become another Europe.

I don't want anything like what the EU elects, even their central righties are too far left. ;) Jordy is in Australia, not the EU.

At Bloomberg’s ‘town hall’ tonight, he claimed he is too controversial for commercial travel, and really really needed his private jet to fly around the country shutting down coal plants and putting people out of work. I can’t remember if this was before or after he reminded viewers how rich he was and why others aren’t worthy of self-protection via the same firearms his security detail possesses.

The only thing that could have been more hypocritical, elitist, and ‘out of touch’ was it he’d have prefaced his comments with "hold my Big Gulp".

Quite a bold statement. I think most modern democrats are smarter than you give them credit for, they think so I doubt they will vote for Herr Trumpski, I think if they don't like Bernie then they will sit it out or they will vote green.

Or the insane, fascist, kleptocratic nutjob in the White House, it's either or.. it's an old far left, democratic socialist, it's an old centrist who appears at times to have memory problems, or the kleptocratic nutcase who thinks he's above the law, a plutocratic ruler... I know who I will take

I don't envy the choices. A doddering old fool or a crazy old socialist.

And so do I. ;))

Good,so you finally come to your senses and you'll vote for Trump?...

My prediction. It doesn't matter who the democrats put down for their nominee. The Democrats have better than even odds of winning the presidential election. It's not so much 1 thing, but the accumulation of many many dumb and stupid and corrupt things that Trump has done. People are FED UP with him. However I also predict, this is going to be a dirty, dirty election. There is going to be interference, and millions dumped in both direct advertising, indirect influence, bots posing as people, as well as opinion "news" to malign the democratic candidate. Also to pitting different groups against each other. Not so much to change people's minds. But to make such a mess of it, people are disgusted and don't vote.

The biggest deal that may come out of this election, not just presidential is I'm hoping is strengthening protections of our democratic elections. Preventing foreign influence in our elections. So far the Republicans has blocked these attempts. If you can't win unless you cheat, if you are willing to sell your loyalty to your country for loyalty to a figurehead, or for personal profit, YA need to go. It's that simple. The current crop of Republicans are - untrustworthy. Yes you can get away with so much, but at some point people get fed up and get rid of the corruption. Sometimes it takes longer than others. It doesn't matter how many fellow cronies Trump pardons, commutes sentences for, etc. we still have free elections. We can still show up and throw the bum out. And even if you refrain from voting for a presidential candidate, at least vote for senators and congress people who actually represent the people in their district versus being a McConnell and Trump sock puppet. If nothing else, vote for people who will support election reform, get big money out of elections, and act against interference in US elections. If the current crop of politicians don't have the guts to do so, vote them out.
