Not I!

Maybe it was iLander, since she's looking for that bubblegum ring stone.

Did you guys get anything?

There was certainly something I wanted....You?

I got the 8mm pink rhodolite. And I was REALLY tempted by the blue-green 8.5mm Namibian tourmaline, but thankfully somebody else got it.

I really like the color of the rhodolite and it's a nice size.

By the time I got through checkout it was gone: the watermelon tourmaline

That 8.5mm Namibian tourm was tasty huh? Got snatched up quick, not surprisingly.

not me. i'm on a buying freeze until the end of the year. went a lil crazy the past 2 months. need to set some stuff first.

I had the Namibian tourm in my cart and someone bought it right out from under me! I'm hoping it was a PSer so I can oggle it some more  Barry emailed right away to apologize and said that he would give me first crack at the tourm he has at the lab right now. He also said that the really red garnet will be on its way to China and that he'll have to cut more rough for someone else (when I got on his website, it was sold and I emailed him immediately to ask about his rough - he said it was already spoken for, but that he may eventually be able to get more.)

Those are some pretty stones. What vendor are you talking about?

I guess I totally missed that he was putting a few new ones on the site, but
it's probably better for my (empty) wallet!
I worked so late last nite that all I got to see were a bunch of "SOLD" signs when I got home!

awwww son of a...not nice word. I totally spaced it off..like I have the money for any of it but still..dangit.

Okay, I'm afraid to poke my head in here and admit it . . .

I got the red garnet.

Oh that's great! After all your efforts at a search for your perfect ring, you deserve it! So if you're not in China, I guess he'll be cutting the rough for that person instead. Please please please let us know what its like when you get it?

Now on the next mystery: the home of the Namibian tourm...

:wavey: Hi BN!

You were right! I've been after it for many years and the quest was the reason for my very first PS topic so many months ago (hope the link works):

See? So nobody can be too mad. . . can they?

I didn't buy anything, wasn't really looking, but hoped you had seen the garnet, and am happy to hear you're the one who bought it. Now you have to post photos when you get it......

Isn't that hard?! Ugh, I'm on a buying freeze too,... sort of. It's very satisfying to have a stone set but man do I have a hard time resisting the temptation of a new, awesome stone

Good for you, iLander! It looks beautiful. It will be nice to hear your impressions on it-- post some pics!

That red garnet is amazing! I, too, want to know where the Nam tourm went....

Lori

For those who haven't wandered over to the site, this is a pic of the Namibian. (I figured it needed to be represented since there are already pics of red and pink on this thread! Plus I kind of love the color...)

Well, I have to admit that I'm the one in the China...But sadly the really red garnet is not coming to me.
Barry did say he will cut another one for me, hope it's as red and as large.
Isn't he just so nice and sweet.

btw, I think it is a copper bearing tourm that Barry is talking about and had mentioned in his newsletter earlier.

iLander, lucky you!
Please please do let us know when you get the red garnet...

btw, Do you think there is any chance that it will go back?
Because I'm the second in line...the little evil is just shouting within me...
:naughty: :naughty:

So Barry emailed me tonight to say that he had cut more red rough but it was on the dark side  . Ilander, you may have a hard to replace stone because of the chromium; Barry was just reiterating how unusual it is to get both the bright and the saturation.

I would have loved to snatch up either the mint tourmaline or the supernova rhodolite.

I actually like the iolite a lot too (apropos of our other thread), but the "slight haziness" is stopping me.

I have been wanting something pure red (but affordable) from day one...(I think it's almost a whole year since my "CS day one")
Such things just don't show up that often

Sorry, babydoll, I know how difficult and painful the search is, I've been doing it too. I have a bunch of feelers out there with other cutters and if anything else turns up, I'll post it and let you know.

Does yours have to be round? Art Cut Gems has an oval sunstone that looks very red, but mine had to be round.

When I was emailing Barry (after the newsletter) he said he had to put it on the site update because otherwise he would get in big trouble and he refused to sell it to me directly. So, there's a lot to be said for his integrity in giving us all a shot at it.

There's always a possibility that it will go back. I'll post and let you know.

I know, I've been told on a couple of forums that it is almost impossible to find a pure red without a modifying tone of blue or orange.

It's a freak of nature.

Then try this iolite: http://mastercutgems.com/index.php?page=viewgem&id=5967

His description: "I love the color but most of the time the rough is not cost effective as it never seems to line up correctly for the good color. This one did." So I think that is his way of saying it's great for iolite.

Dana takes terrible pictures (I think this is not news to him :D ) but his stones are really wonderful in RL.

Still sorry . . . ::)
