Who wants to see my haul from today?

All these things came from the same vintage mall.
A sweet sterling art nouveau hatpin. I don't know what I'll do with it, but I had to have it!

This is a 9" Japanese Imari dish, made sometime before 1912

And this is a freeform sterling pendant with spiderweb variscite. Pretty!IMG_20240126_103541948.jpg

when my grandma (or maybe my great aunty) died mum got all her stuff as she they had had no children of their own, mum gave a whole bunch of hat pins to my older cousin (as i was probably too young and clumsy for the sharp stuff) but hat pins have always fasinated me and i wish they would come back in fashion, my grandma and her sisters where of the generation where a lady would always wear a hat when leaving the house (and gloves)

Too bad you didn't get the hat pins. They are so interesting. I've seen some basic ones in antique shops around here, but this one with the lady's face was too good to pass up!

anyone been out shopping ?

so i just thought i'd throw a question out here....
i have some wedding cake beads -in saying that they arnt particulary outstandingly colourful and just because i brought them as vintage Murano beads i have not louped for 'fine print' and with my track record of trade me (NZ Ebay) buys do i really want to find out ???*
I'd post a picture but ive temporaly misplaced the beads grrrrrrr

anyway as it typical i have the fat neck problem
i have looked on etsy and cant find any Murano beads that are quite right, either to compliment or contrast my beads to extend them
But .... as is my recent M.O. i have a ton of loose FW pearls, not PS quality but as nice as what you would buy from a main street jewler here

do you think i could mix creamy white pearls with the wedding cake beads?
you know so i can wear them, i would prefer to take the necklace apart rather than make an extender

*sad story of the cherry amber necklace turning out to be (very nice) bakealight not actual real amber
then just recently a ring i paid quite a lot for a few years ago having man made vintage 'peridots and aquas':x2 - that was 18k so i scraped it because it was never going to be mind clean from that moment on

Silver pendant with what I was told a citrine (I'm not sure if this is correct). I was told it dates from the 1900s. It has a stamp RLB, which I found out could stand for: Richard Lebram Berlin. He was a gold- an siversmith (company founded 1893).

I love this! I happen to love citrine, and find that cut so pretty and elegant! Great find!

Thank you! I love citrine as well. Not sure if it really is one but it‘s ok.

DH and I attended our local gem and mineral show yesterday. It's a huge show and we always have great fun there.
I bought some assorted turquoise cabs, and some other stones for future projects.

I have to show you this!
I bought these two ring boxes and the Verdura box, all for only $4.00.
The rings and brooch are mine, using them to show the boxes.

And I am pleased to report that the color change sapphire, shown above, tested as natural sapphire by a jeweler/appraiser at the show.
It has a strong color change, and I was never 100% sure that it was natural. I'm very happy!

Also, I found this really great ring.
Made by Navajo silversmith Kevin Yazzie.
Tufa cast, and really cool, at least in my book!
IYKYK...haha, I've been dying to say that!

But I'm not gonna leave you hanging. Here's a video about tufa casting.

Is that a book ring box @stracci2000?! What a great find. Love your new star ring and that the color change sapphire is real, very pretty color change on that one!

Yes, it's a little book! I was so thrilled!
It's in great condition.
The other little box has the lettering worn off, but it's from a jeweler in Cheyenne WY.
I'm gonna do an Instagram style video, where I open the box.... really......slow.....and show the sparkly OEC!

Mine - art deco aqua and diamond platinum brooch. This is my first item with aquamarine and I really like it. 20240228_144601.jpg20240228_144710.jpg20240228_144548.jpg

do you plans for this beauty or will you wear it as a brooch ?

i love this
it looks like a tulip ?

1.2 ct old mine cut. It has a tiny chip visible only by loop, so it was reasonable; otherwise super clean and white too. 20240316_180426.jpg

Thanks @stracci2000, you are so sweet to remember. 18 years and counting!

I think there was a thread a few years back where someone turned a brooch into a hair ornament. But I don't recall if they could still use it as a brooch. Is that what you want to do? Be able to use it both ways? Have you searched for threads on this?

@Lookinagain , ideally yes, I'd like to wear it as brooch and hair ornament, like this. I just need to figure out a way to secure it.

Jeez, they don't show you the back. Do you think it's just "pinned" into the hair?
