Who wants to see my haul from today?

I’m so sorry Daisy - but what a lovely idea to have its pieces put back
together for use as a plant pot!

There is a beautiful artform called Kintsugi, and it's the art of repairing broken things using 'gold' and slow dry food safe glue with gold colored powder or paint. You could make something wonderful out of this!

I have been pricing that
definatly a good idea to try it myself
i got a quote for repair last night and its just not doable (starting at $170 amd then up to $600 for Kintsugi)
but i can buy a kit for $36 so im going to give it a go - in silver

How exciting! It looks doable, as long as you take it a few pieces at a time.

I’d love to give this a try myself, but I don’t need another obsess-er-hobby, and we definitely don’t need more ceramics. But those “repaired” pieces are lovely!

I hope you'll let us see it. I know it will be beautiful.

@Daisys and Diamonds Could you possibly have a piece of jewelry made from one of the broken pieces? Something like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1011135672/broken-china-jewelry-statement-necklace

I feel sad for you and your friend, and about what happened. I understand feeling sentimental about something that was given to you with kindness. I hope you find a way to keep at least part of the mug.

I actually love that kind of jewlery
Its definatly an option

Gee
these kind of sellers used to be quite common
we even had local people making them to order after the Christchurch earthquakes
But ive now had a real good look around etsy and it is not so common anymore and some just flat out refuse to do custom
i already have a small selection of broken china pieces i want to wear as jewlery

also these people you found are one of the more economically priced
some are just way way over the top

thank you for the link

Im.sure there is a thread around here somewhere on it
also on the broken china jewlery

Ill have to dig them up one day once the glue is dry

Today I stopped into a thrift store and found this sweet sterling and black spinel (I think) butterfly ring. I couldn't leave it there for $5.00!

Then at the antique mall across the street, some vendor unwittingly sold this 10k gold bow ring with little diamonds for 10 bucks.

Another vendor had this 14k solid gold rope chain with a .999 gold coin pendant.
Now I don't know why, and I didn't ask, but that chain and pendant was priced at $20. It weighs 6.95 grams total. I guess people just assume all jewelry is costume. Their loss, my gain.
Mama didn't raise no fool, so of course l pounced!

Edit: The stones on the bow ring do not test for diamonds, so probably CZ. But still a pretty ring!

Long time lurker here, first time making an account&post:)

I was bidding in an online auction today for another piece that I had my eyes on, but then this gold art nouveau brooch came up. circa 1910, French-made. It has such a romantic, flowy organic pattern, different from other art nouveau pieces I saw on ebay and etsy.

I didn't even see it before the bidding started but on an impulsive bid I won it for $550...

It has two hoops on the back for converting into a necklace, I'm already thinking about what kind of chain to go with it. Maybe I should also add a pearl pendant to the bottom of it to make it a lavalier?

Somehow I missed the score. That is so awesome - I worship you!

I somehow stumble upon these things!
I louped the necklace right in front of the sales lady, looking for the karat mark.
I don't think she knew what I was doing!

Seriously that almost 24k piece - I mean omg. Did you weigh it when you got home??

Yes, that's the first thing I did when I got home!
The chain weighs 4.92 g.
The coin including the frame weighs 2.03 g. It measures 15mm across.
The coin itself weighs about 1.9g.

According to yesterday's gold price ($1825.58 ) total scrap value is $278.94.
The coin alone would scrap for $111.52.

Lucky you found it so its safe from being melted down

I would never scrap something this nice!
I'm not particularly attracted to the "angel" aspect, I just like the gold! You can't really tell there's an angel on it unless you look real carefully, anyway.

Congrats on a lovely brooch! And welcome to PS—already you bring great photos! :D

Look at this giant diamond I found lol! But actually it’s a silver dollar encased in a paperweight. Super weird, but the silver dollar is real and it only cost $1.99 at the local thrift store.

What a quirky item! I mean WTH does the coin have to do with a diamond?

Does it have a mint mark on the back, just above the words one dollar? Depending, you may have something with enough value to buy a diamond with it ;)
