Who wants to see my haul from today?

I'm sorry about your larimar beads!
But maybe you can still use them for an alternate project.
It's so hard to buy online.

It was a learning experience and including shopping it was still under $100 - so not as bad as some of my online auctions :lol-2:
Live and learn
I think im just destined to pay full retail for anything nice

I need to go shopping with you !

The beads are still quite nice
I might use them for pearl knotting practice

I'm lucky.....there are several bead shops around here. You can go in and see/touch them all and decide what you want.
It's a wonderland for beaders and jewelry makers.

I paid $1.00 for this sterling candlestick holder at a thrift store.
My favorite part is polishing!

I try to keep it all organized! My display cases are so full, I have things double stacked.
But scoring stuff like this keeps me motivated!
Seriously, @stracci2000, you live in a wonderland of bargains!

Thrift store find....
Three coral strands and stud earrings. $4.00 total cost.
I'm not sure if the studs are gold, I will acid test them shortly.
I have a few 14k clasps in my stash.
I will be stringing necklaces this weekend!

Edit: the posts test 14k!

well done !
what a bargain
but more importantly you rescued them and will give them a good new life

I was thinking of putting them all together to make a three strand necklace with this 14k clasp I have. More visual impact. Thoughts?

What about swapping out the jump rings on one side of the triple clasp with lobster clasps, so that you could keep the strands separate and available to stack with other necklaces, but then attach all three if you wanted the three strand look? You could make each the proper length for the triple strand, but could also be worn separately. More options that way.

I might even go so far as to replace a few random beads, on one of the two smaller beaded strands, with gold beads, and then take said beads and make a tin cup strand to expand my options even more.

Good idea! There are so many options that I didn't think about!

This sounds great! I will review my bead stash and see what might work.

dont forget to show us the options as you play it out

i think they look gorgeous together
you know the that saying about being greater than the sum of the parts

and i love the differnt bead idea
and then the tin cup too

Maybe I can use two of the larger beads and make drop earrings, too.
This will be fun!

this is some of the nicest coral i have seen
its such a useful range of sizes
i want to twist them up - i saw recently Camila the dutchess of Cornwall twist up a multi strand of pearls (can't find the photo now) and thought maybe it does negligible damage ?

More of an acquisition than a haul:

My sister-in-law recently asked whether I wanted anything from my late brother’s eclectic collection of vintage marvels and oddities. I declined at first, but I kept thinking about this old Rock-ola penny scale. It had years greeted visitors in the entryway of my brother and SIL’s Art Deco-era house for many years - and always brought a smile to their faces. So, my hubby and I retrieved it from my SIL’s storage shed a few weekends ago, and it’s now creating smiles in our home. Or maybe I’m projecting… it is definitely bringing a smile to my face! My brother died after two excruciating years of hospitals and medical procedures, and so many of my memories of my brother involved those two terrible years. Having this reminder of his quirky side in my dining room is helping me to replace the memory of those two years with older, better memories.

My sister-in-law has been renting a room from friends since my brother’s death, and she doesn’t anticipate ever again living in a house that could accommodate my late brother’s collectibles. She is keeping special mementos of course, but was ready to find new homes for the collection. Amazingly, Warner Brothers Studios bought most of my brother’s collection to add to their movie props collection! I’m sure my brother would have loved that!

How do you tell if it's real coral?

If you look closely, you can see striations and growth lines in it.
Here is a photo after I attached the clasp.
(The bottom photo is more accurate for color, and was taken before I restrung it. You can clearly see the lines in each bead )
