Why don''t they make more colored asschers?

Wondering why they don''t make more light colored asschers. They ones we have seen lately are absolutely breathtaking and I''m sure many would buy them if they were out there.

To get cut an asscher cut, the rough material has to be deep enough to start with. Most cutters want to get the most out of the natural rough (in order to make the most $$$), so a shallower oval is most common. And as you know, even many of those ovals are cut with windows (too shallow) in order to max out the rough.

So, for those who love asscher cuts, the only way to get them is to have them custom cut for now. It just doesn''t make any financial justification for cutters to cut asscher cut gemstones when they can cut more and larger ovals out of the rough and the market for ovals (and other shapes) is also much larger.

I figured it was something like that, Chrono.

Now, however, I''m sure if one of the colored stone vendors put up something on their site like yours or Neat''s, someone would snap it up.

Betcha.

(Hint to any colored stone vendors who may read this.

I''m sure of it too. Jeff said that since I posted my pink asscher stone here on PS, he''s been getting a ton of requests for other asscher gemstones.

Dang pretty, those Asscher gems!

If you''re doing a google or site search, try using emerald cut or emerald shape or square emerald shape, instead of Asscher. I know they''re not precisely interchangable terms, but you can find more of the Asscher-y look...

The only problem is that (in google) you get a lot of emerald gemstone hits. The Asscher moniker seems mostly limited to diamonds.

Correct, there is a reasonable amount of emerald cut gemstones, but for a true asscher with the octogon shape, you can keep searching until your hair turns white.

I desperately want a 2ct(ish) 4 Peaks Amethyst and I can''t find one for the life of me! All I can find are the cheapo QVC types and it''s driving me crazy. I''m thinking I should just give up and have one cut.

Who''s the best for that anyway?

I do not recommend a 4 Peak Amethyst as an asscher cut stone. They have a dark tone and you will not be able to see the steps. In addition, the 4 Peak material tend to be on the small side, plus most are colour zoned. That material is best cut in a different shape.

Darn it. It''s kind of one of those things I''m just stuck on though. We''ll see what I can find and maybe I''ll give up and move onto something else. Thanks though!!
