Hello,
I have been looking at sapphires, 5x7 mm to fit into a setting. I think I like the color on this one (natural light) but it seems to have a window in the middle, or do you call that extinction? This is from Pearlmans.

As I’m just getting my feet wet in terms of educating myself I’d love some opinions. What do you think about this stone?

Thanks

No window that I can see. It's actually a type of extinction called a "bowtie "which is common in elongated cuts like pears, marquise and ovals.

Since you asked for opinions, the stone is too dark for my taste.

Thanks for your reply.

It is hard for me to tell from pictures. The descriptors used were vivid, intense, medium rich blue. From the color chart someone linked to (somewhere on here) I thought I was looking for vivid and medium blue.

I welcome all thoughts.

From the photo, I wouldn't call that vivid or intense, or medium. To me, it's a medium dark blue of slightly grayish saturation.

That is very helpful how you described it. Thanks

I think it’s nice. I’d make sure whoever you buy a sapphire from has a good return policy so if you don’t like it “in the flesh” you can return it.

That looks to be a very bright blue. Is it extra deep? 6.76x5.50x5.51
It is almost a carat more (1.79 vs .86 for the Pearlman one) for about the same face dimensions.
