Any PSers in the Northern Hemosphere care to join me in a winter photo shoot?

It's snowing here in the Northeast of the USA and it got me thinking of my two new asschers: a 6mm light gray spinel cut by Ryan Quantz and procured through Elle at the Gemstone Prioject, and an 8mm Aqua from Lake Maynara, Tanzania that I just had cut through Johannes Orstadius On a sunny day the light just bounces off the sharp facet junctions and the colors are more muted. But today the snowflakes blurred some of those asscher lines and despite the lack of sun, all the snow created a bright light that enhanced the colors even at 3 pm

How do your colored stone gems and/or jewelry pieces look in the winter light?

I love that gray spinel!!

Sooo pretty - love the contrast of the two step-cuts in the icy snow!

I love them both!

So gorgeous! I love both of those. Good thread topic too! I'd love to play but I'd need more snow. Weird to say but true. haha I feel like I should knock on wood now or something. ;)

Oh wow they are both such beautiful stones and the snow really does make the colors pop! Your pics are great!

Ooh, I can play. This was a lot harder than I thought it would be. First, it's freaking cold outside! :o
Second, I had a hard time trying to get colors to show up well. Besides that, this was fun! I loved getting out some little pretties to play with. they usually live in their little boxes so it was nice to play with them.

Just for reference, here's what's in the shots:
- electric blue topaz
- purple garnet (boy was this impossible to photograph)
- minty green tourmaline
- opal
- paraiba tourmaline

I think the colors are closest to being accurate in this pic. The minty tourmaline is not this color though. More pastel.

This one shows the purple garnet well (but again, the minty tourmaline is too green).

Here's a hand shot.

Overall, I had a great time playing around. I wish I could get that purple garnet to show up the way I see it in real life. It's much more lively and bright in person but does not translate to the camera well.
