Oooh, we did it! I know I am often more of a lurker than a chatter, I wanted to share the great news with everyone here. You have all been so supportive and lovely.
We are officially engaged, and it feels so exciting, so exciting, SO exciting! For those of you who have been following my story, my fiancee [!!!] and I had not planned to make it official quite so soon. However, things have changed so much over the past months, and we have decided to make this commitment to one another at the present time in light of all the things that are going on in our lives right now. It''s such an exciting time for both of us, and we have so many great opportunities ahead of us in the coming years. As you can probably, tell, I am absolutely elated!
Well, we both are, but I won''t speak for her [the pictures will say it all, I think].
We had ordered rings months ago, garnet center stones ordered based on recommendations by fellow PSers in the Colored Gems forum, and had them set into beautiful diamond accented semi-mounts from a local jeweler. The story got a bit complicated in the middle, but I will save the details for the Show Me The Ring forum, when I get a chance to post there. Regardless, the rings are absolutely beautiful, and we''re incredibly happy with them. I will post some pictures here!
We cheated a bit and wore the rings before we had any sort of official celebration. It wasn''t quite as important for us, I think, since we went through every detail of this decision 100% together- no surprises. Neither of us really "proposed" in the traditional sense. Instead, we had more of an exchange of rings and words and smiles and good food to celebrate our mutual decision to eventually be married. We planned a romantic afternoon out to commemorate the occasion. Well... actually, we planned several.
We''ve had more than a few different versions of this celebration all over at various romantic places and restaurants and the like. We''re just so happy to be together and thrilled that this is happening that we can''t help but drag it out and out and out. Every so often one of us will slip the other''s ring off of her finger and slide it back on again asking "will you marry me" and we''ll laugh and kiss and be giddy. So sappy, I know!!
Anyways, enough of the sappy stuff. Regardless of what happens in CA this November in light of the ballot initiative to overturn the CA Supreme Court ruling legalizing same sex marriage we will be celebrating us and our commitment to one another in times to come. Hopefully, though, the voters of CA will pull through and allow us to be fully recognized under the law as other couples have the privilege of doing. We can only hope. If not, well, both of us plan to do social justice work once we settle into our careers, so hopefully we can do our part to further this cause and many others that are dear to our hearts.
I will post some pictures of my fiancee and I together and our lovely rings! I will also post a link here to the SMTR thread, once I get a chance to start it. Hopefully the pictures work- I''ve never posted any before, so bear with me.
Thanks for reading this novel of a post, by the way.
