Would love input on Sapphire ring CAD design in progress

Thank you all for letting me know what you think!
I wrote David to ask him what he thinks will look best once the cad is transformed in to a real life piece. I have such a hard time trying to envision that!
He said he would send me a plastic model of both sizes to see in person. How cool is that! I think it will make the decision a lot easier :D

While I think either would certainly work, as others have pointed out, the 2.4mm diamonds make my heart flutter. So that'd be my choice, hands down. Plus, you already own the stones. So excited to see this design come to fruition!

I've been wearing the 3D printed ring he sent me around the house for weeks.

Here's what you can expect of the models, BTW. I love this thing! I contemplated painting in the stones and wearing it out just to confuse people.

P.S. Those are 3 marquise on each side (and some lint), in case you're wondering.

That is so cool! Wow! It’s going to be an amazing ring :kiss2: . You must be so excited!
I would be tempted to paint it too :D

That’s going to be gorgeous! What gems are you setting?

I love those little plastics. I save all of mine.
They’re a great way to get a feel for your setting in person.

Can’t wait to see the real thing, and I think it’s really neat they give you the little plastic demos!

@2Neezers I was thinking about this project yesterday... did you receive the (super fun) plastic ring models yet?

Thank you for checking in! One of my Neezers (my Havanese fur babies) has been sick and that’s been consuming all of my thoughts so I totally forgot to come back and share.
I did receive the models and they are super fun! I know most of the votes were for the version with the larger diamonds, my husband even voted for that one, but for some reason I am still drawn to the 2mm halo stones. I think I like that the smaller ring makes the sapphire more of the focal point than the larger version. I think either version would work well though!

You have to go with your gut for sure! I'll often ask opinions (which end up being unanimous) and then I reverse course completely. I do hope your fur baby is on the mend!!

I spoke with David yesterday, and he promised photos of my completed ring next week. We're a few weeks behind at this point, but I'd rather he not rush.

A long long long time ago someone I’ve entirely forgotten shared a trick with me about making choices - just flip a coin. If you’re okay with the result, then you’re good. If you feel the urge to flip the coin again, go 2 out of 3, or something like that, you obviously prefer the other choice better.

Maybe you asking opinions is just another way to flip the coin. In any case, the important thing is to make the right choice for yourself, right?

for some reason I am still drawn to the 2mm halo stones.

You love what you love. The ring will be marvellous either way, you just get to choose between awesome and phenomenal. And aren’t those the best kind of choices.

I’ve been wondering if you received your ring yet! I can’t wait to see it!
That‘s good info to know that they’re running behind. I‘ve noticed there is less conversation in their emails back and forth than when I worked with them in the past and was wondering if they’re extra busy.
That is the cutest emoji! It was a rough couple of weeks for my fur baby and her pawrents, but she is doing better, thankfully :)).

I think we're beginning the holiday rush... I know Inken is no longer taking new custom orders this year. So I get the feeling all of these jewelers are pretty overwhelmed. I can't wait to see your finished creation as well!!

David just sent me pictures and I love the ring!! Thank you to you all for helping me work through the details! :))

There were a couple of details that are different than I expected. I wrote David to ask if they were intentional changes due to the design or if my request were lost in emails. Since I think I will have the option to leave things as is or request those changes to be made, I’d love to see what you all think.

The first thing is I had requested tiny claw prongs for the center stone, but it looks like they are small rounded prongs instead. David had suggested tiny claws since I wanted prongs that would show the least amount of metal against the stone. Typically I prefer rounded prongs for their smoothness and also they don’t seem to catch on things, so maybe the rounded prongs were meant to be. Would you change to tiny claws around the sapphire or keep them as is?

The second is I had requested fine milgrain everywhere including the top tier closest to the sapphire. I thought it would look more fluid to have milgrain everywhere. The top tier doesn’t have milgrain and is smooth instead. Would you add milgrain to the top tier around the sapphire or leave that area polished?

Is there anything else you see in the up close pictures that should be addressed before the ring is shipped? I did see what looked like a couple of gaps where the points of the top tier join to the lower diamond tier and asked him if that was an artifact of the pictures or actually there.

Thanks in advance :)

Oh good lawd, have mercy... s t u n n i n g ! ! First, I didn't realize how beautifully cut your sapphire is. :mrgreen2: About the milgrain, I realllllly love how the entire "D" shaped area surrounding each diamond is textured. But then the scallops above it and below it (in the gallery) are highly polished. I feel like this variation in the finish is creating layers, depth, and richness. Personally, and it's not even a question for me, I wouldn't touch it. About the prongs, I think this is going to be a more "personal taste" thing. Some folks are strictly claw prong people, some love the rounded style, and some enjoy a mix. I can see why David elected to use rounded here, because there are 10, and they are minimally intruding upon the sapphire. I like them. But I'd probably also like the claws. Totally up to you! Lastly, the "gaps" you mention just look like a function of the design to me, and I'm not bothered by them whatsoever. But this is your unique beauty (and my opinions don't matter in the slightest), and you should request whatever changes you'd like to see until you're 100% satisfied. I'll love this ring regardless, of that I'm certain!!

OMG this ring is so stunning. I personally love the difference in texture and rounded prongs, but like Autumn said, all that matters is what you like! Please post handshots when you get it, however you choose to change it (or not) I'm sure it will look amazing.

It's magnificent!

+1 to all this. I think the milgrained lower tier and the smooth upper tier read clearly as a coherent design concept. Same with the gaps between the two tiers.

FWIW, I'd have chosen pointed claw prongs. Here's a very rough-and-ready edit. (Don't look too closely at the details. :)))

Of course, it's your preference that counts, not mine, Also, there may be technical issues. Your ring will look absolutely stunning either way.

Same here. It gives the design definition and depth. I like it a lot.

Looking at the claw vs round prongs comparison image, I agree with Autumn - a matter of personal taste as they both look lovely and fit in well with the overall design.

I like the look of the milgrain on as is, next to areas of polish - same as others have stated. I’d leave it.

The prongs?? - I’m not quite sure there’s enough material to fashion what’s there down into claws, honestly. I’m not an expert though. I’d ask what it entailed to make it happen.
Could be a trick of the eye, but a few seem right now to be just hanging on barely past the center stone’s girdle -
Then on the one side view - it sure looks like a variance of prong lengths from one side to the opposite side?
Petite claws will look nice, but I do really like the current shape as is for this design as well.
I do see the areas you mention about the gaps. I don’t think it’s just a photo shadow. I doubt it’s structural - but if it bugs you - ask about it. I have mixed feelings about asking to have them filled in- due to a past experience with this. :(
I’d forget about them unless you have naked eye supervision :) or even just consider it a sign of separate cast pieces being individually hand assembled - not a mass produced one piece cast.

I can’t wait for you to post pics of this beauty on your finger!!

Too late for me to edit -
If you do ask for any modifications to the prongs to be done
Ask DKJ to confirm with the bench that set it - if concessions weren’t made due to the sapphires girdle. I *think* i see some variances in the girdle that might have been an issue - but hard to be certain from just the pictures.
If concessions were indeed made due to that - then find out your options. You might make a difference choice of concessions than the bench did. Or not. :)

I’d hate to see the prongs get changed and have something else pop up as an issue, as the result.

Thank you all for the compliments and helpful replies!! I’ll be back later tonight to respond properly :)) .
I think of jewelry making as art and I know sometimes the artist makes a decision they feel is best for what they are working with. I am guessing that is what happened with those couple of areas, but will know more once I hear back from David.

This is one of the many reasons I love this forum! And if @2Neezers decides to go with claw prongs, I think it's a fairly easy fix, because all prongs start out as rounded and are then filed. :mrgreen2: Awesome composite, Star!
