ow, this is old thread, but I will point out my position again.
I will give her the money, if she and her boyfriend want to use it towards the ring, that''s fine.
It occured to me that when my husband and I got engaged we used money that his grandfather had left him AND some my parents had given me. And it was still a small stone, not a lot of money was spent. I was certainly not after a large stone, we just wanted to get engaged.
I will not intrude on their decision making process, I don''t even have to know about it. I am not an in your face kind of mom.
