does it exist? I cannot seem to find a spinel in yellow...if anyone can find some that would be great. thanks!!

Yes, it is called Rubicelle, although my spelling maybe off.

I have never personally seen on in hand however. :( The main thing you will have to worry about is that while natural yellow does exist, the majority of yellow spinel that you will encounter will be synthetic, as yellow is a common synthetic spinel color.

And the rare natural yellow spinel will, most likely, not be a pure yellow but more of a golden/brownish yellow.

Is there a reason why you want specifically a yellow spinel? In general, I would say a yellow sapphire will be easier to find and nicer.

i was wondering if it was common, i thought it could be a good alternative to a yellow diamond??

No natural colored gem can really be a good simulant of diamond IMO, but other yellow gems that are durable are yellow sapphires (beware of synthetics and dyed stones though) and chrysoberyl. I highly doubt you'll find a yellow spinel that has a fine color.

I have not personally seen any yellow spinels either but I do not expect it to be particularly attractive; it will probably be sort of brownish yellow.

thanks everyone, i was curious if it existed and if there was any fine material out there :))

What about yellow zircon? From what I understand that has good light refraction.

Yellow zircons can be quite pretty, but they are not going to be a practical every day stone due to facet wear issues.

We don't know if this is for an every day piece.

You are correct - my bad... I was guessing that might be the case because she was looking for a yellow diamond substitute. I LOVE zircons actually and have a few set and more that I would love to set someday. They are a most sparkly stone!!!

That is what came to mind as well, if the ring is worn with a little care.

I've got a few yellow zircs and they're VERY lovely! I tend to like honey yellow in zircons.

Yellows tend to go honey on the lower end though, so you just have to know if thats your thing or not (I like the honey yellows myself)
