you quit lusting after all the other rings you see!

I thought this would be a fun thread to start now that I finally have my dream diamond :) When I had my asscher, I was constantly looking for a prettier setting, better cut quality, bigger size, something ... I just never felt satisfied with the ring that I had. But I was so hesitant to change the stone shape because I had convinced myself that I really wanted an asscher, and nothing else would do. But now that I have my RB, I am so happy I couldn''t imagine going back to an asscher shape & sacrificng the extra sparkle!

By the way, thanks to asscherisme, because I decided to take the plunge & do the swap after reading her story about swapping her asscher 3-stone for an RB and being happy & never looking back.

So, I thought maybe other people would want to share stories about their quest for, and finding of, the perfect ring. With all the upgrades around here, I thought there would be lots of stories to share - and lots of stories from people who got it right the first time! :)

By the way, my new setting is supposed to get to the jewler Fri., so hopefully I''ll have it set before I leave town on Sat. for the Christmas holiday. So, I won''t have time to post pics until after Xmas, but I promist I''ll have some up then!

Definitely when you stop looking at everything else with this feeling that ... "maybe I could have/should have"

I looked at so many settings for my asscher. And I''m so happy with the concept and design of it. It''s really JUST right for me.

I see other asscher''s being bought and set, and everytime I look down at mine and a feeling of contentment flows through me... and happiness that other''s have found what''s right for them.

It''s a great feeling.

I know what you mean, Gypsy - your setting is just incredible! I love the sparkliness of the halo with the shininess of the smooth metal with the step sof the asshcer - perfect combination - it''s a work of art!

Awww... thank you Vesper! I''m really happy with it. Your new round is EYE POPPING though (love the spread too). I can''t wait to see your new setting for it!!

Vesper & Gypsy, I'm happy you're happy with your new re-sets...

I guess I'm one of the ones who got it right the first time. But I ended up surprising myself at what I fell in love with (I also shopped a lot in the past so I wasn't starting from the beginning). I always wanted a square EC - for eons - and I always thought that's what I'd get, along with a LM setting. But when I started shopping for real, I realized that with my size finger, the size that looked good on my hand was priced in "crazyland" prices and the smaller ECs didn't look so great on me. So I got a Plan B, find two smaller Transitional cuts to match my grandmother's ering stone, and make a 3-stone ring of 3 equal sized stones. While I was searching for matching old stones I stumbled upon my ering, which unbeknownst to me, was apparently Plan C. It was winking and blinking at me from a shop window I hadn't ventured into in about a decade. It was like it locked onto me with a laser beam and I couldn't get away from it ("Please come inside and look at me! I'll be the best ring ever! You just have to give me one chance, that's all."...yeah, my ring talks to me...

). After I tried it on, I realized that not only would it be nearly impossible to find two stones to match my grandmother's stone, but that I no longer wanted to try because what I was looking at on my finger was "my" ring. It was so heady and overwhelming. I never thought I'd have that much of a reaction when I found "the right ring for me" but it was visceral. And I've never looked back. And never regretted that decision once. I doubt I ever will.

I hope you both feel that way about your rings - that you will cherish them and what they stand for - always! Enjoy!

Ditto, surfgirl

Sometimes I think about switching out for another cut-corner-square-cut, but then I feel so sad and just clutch my little asscher baby! I think that at this point it''s also to do with sentimental attachment to the original stone and setting, maybe even more so than that it''s "right."

You stop obessing about the small things with the stone and/or setting! I sent back the .91 and got the new 1.33 round last week. I loved the .91 but something just kept nagging me. I thought I could see warmth in the .91 (which was an ''I'') but the 1.33 is a ''J'' and it''s as colorless as can be. Then it was too small. Then it was too dark in certain lighting. Really, this poor diamond couldn''t win

But the 1.33

it''s a great size, eye clean, colorless, the setting is fab, etc. I have not nitpicked at this stone at all! And I feel DONE with my engagement ring. Totally happy and content with it. DH even re-proposed in a very cute and funny way in our kitchen

I knew my lucida was the one as soon as I saw it. I loved it from the internet site also but as soon as she showed me a couple of rings, mine was the one that just popped out at me. There will be no upgrades for me.

Well, darn it, I''m still at the obsessing over finding a setting stage. I''m even dreaming about it at night! Definitely have not found a setting I lust over and DH just seriously compromised things by buying me a second matching eternity ring for Christmas. I''m definitely not complaining about that, but it means I really should find an ER setting that will allow 2 Ebands to sit flush on either side of it instead of a matching ring set. Argh!!!!

I never thought I would ever want a diamond - UNTIL I saw surfgirls.

Now I have my heart set on an OEC or transitional one day.

Problem is, I''m not a ring person - I LOVE my e-ring, but wouldn''t want to ever change it, upgrade it etc, but I would never wear a RHR.

So, it will have to be a pendant - so I''ll want a BIG stone that I won''t get to see much!

I''m a hoarder by nature, so even though I know my e-ring is perfect for me, I will always covet other peoples!

...the ring is a leetle over budget but you don''t feel guilty even though you were trying to stay about 30% under budget

...you end up with something that was the opposite of what your original idea was and you can''t stop looking at it and love it more and more every time you look at it (kind of like with my FI :P)

...it''s your fifth perfect ring but you don''t think in the back of your mind about another setting / diamond that you remember seeing or want to check out "just in case"

...you feel like this the one!!

...you stop doing more research!!

I remember the first time I realized I had found the "one". I was browsing around on the internet, and instead of looking at every single setting and asking if I liked it better, were the prongs better, was the pave better quality, was the band nicer, and a million other questions, I started looking at every setting and saying "mine''s better."

Such a satisfying feeling.

Love your reply, bigdiamonds! Great stories, everyone!

I know exactly what you mean, vespergirl, and I''m so happy to hear that you love your new ring!

My e-ring search went through several stages, and I thought I wanted a series of very intricate, involved settings. BUT, then one day I saw a simple shared-prong eternity band in person and I just knew that was the one.

When I thought I wanted a halo I agonized over the profile view and the basket, and I just couldn''t get it right. I spend hours pondering this detail and that detail, yet it never felt finished.

Once I found THE setting, however, I stopped worrying about the little details because the overall look was just perfect. Now that I have my ring I find myself looking at it a million times a day and thinking "How could I ever have thought I wanted anything else?"

Now that I re-read my post, you could insert "FI" in for "ring" and it would all be true, too. Interesting.

Uuuuuuuugh. I''ll never stop looking at other rings! And if I had the means I''d probably have a dozen of them in different sizes, shapes and styles. But I don''t feel that *aching* desire anymore, and I''m satisfied that if I can only have one, this one probably suits me better than anything else.

You know you''ve found the right ring when .......

Your heart breaks at the thought of sending it back!

I have a bit of a reputation here for being something of a fast upgrader! I always said I wanted a 1.5ct. If I ever get a 1.5ct it will be starting from scratch with another diamond because this one I have now is staying with me!! I adore it!!

Ditto this! And I''d totally forgotten about that switch (it was just over a year ago that we settled on a setting).

This can apply to wedding planning, too... you know you''ve found the "right one" when you STOP LOOKING!
