What are your favorite artists or songs that are classics in your opinion (they''ll never go out of style)?

I''ll have to get back with songs but some of my favorite artists that will always hang around are James Taylor, Van Morrison, and Paul Simon.

Paul Simon is a favorite of mine, too. "Hearts and Bones" is my favorite Paul Simon song, but "Another Galaxy" from his Surprise CD is slowly creeping up the list right now.

I have a "BEST SONGS" playlist on my iPod with all of my favorite classic songs. I''ll post it if I can find my iPod (eek!)

ANYTHING by Led Zep. And all the great Motown classics. Too many to list!

I don''t know who these people are

so I''ll add some...

Aerosmith
Patsy Cline
Frank Sinatra
Dave Matthews
Jimi Hendrix

I had a roommate who was terrible to me (went through my room, etc.); she loved country music, and nothing else. To annoy her I''d play James Taylor''s Greatest Hits every morning while getting ready for work. It made her NUTS and made it a perfect way for me to start my day every morning for more reason than one (who doesn''t love a little JT to start the day?). Sweet Baby James is probably my favorite song of his, but there are so many greats.

The Beatles
U2
Stevie Wonder
Bob Dylan
Marvin Gaye
Smokey Robinson
Van Morisson
The Eagles
Pink Floyd
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Paul Simon
Simon and Garfunkel
Carly Simon
Janis Joplin
Fleetwood Mac
Queen
Creedance Clearwater Revival
The Who
Neal Young
Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young
The Police
The Sex Pistols
The Ramones

I could go on and on...

I love older music!

We have 1000+ record collection that keeps growing. (it''s taking over the living room!)

Just lately I''ve been listening to old ELO, Duke Ellington, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Puccini''s Turandot, and Chopin.

Van Morrison has always been a favorite of mine. I love all sorts of music but my play lists always have a little bit of Van Morrison, Cat Stevens, Paul Simon, Rolling Stones, Ben Harper (hottie!), Jack Johnson, and Bob Dylan and Marley. I am also really digging Keb'' Mo'' right now.

Anything by David Bowie.

Also, I agree with a lot of the other posters re: James Taylor, Paul Simon, Van Morrison, The Eagles, The Police (and Sting''s solo stuff), Queen, etc.

I''ll add a few to the list: Elton John, Billy Joel, Pearl Jam, Gun & Roses and in his own way Jimmy Buffet!

My all time favorite band is The Beatles, then followed by Simon and Garfunkel. I can listen to any one of their songs at any given time and it will automatically put me in a good mood.

Ah, Simon and Garfunkel, definitely!

Perry Como and Dean Martin should be added to the list. And, I''m also gonna throw in the Statler Brothers. ( I could inundate this thread with country artists, but I''m trying to remain unbiased.)

SS, I second the Statler Brothers and also Alabama for country music lovers! I actually got to see SB live in Little Nashville and got a tour of their bus/went backstage when I was about 14--my dad sold them some game-used sports memorabiia--so we got great tickets and backstage passes. They were really cool guys, a pleasure to hang out with for a bit, and made us feel like family. Randy Owen is a grammy winner and has done some great charity work, I really admire him. ETA: not to turn this into a country thread or anything...I also love all the classic rock bands which have been mentioned above. I have very diverse tastes in music, everything from R&B to hip hop to classic rock...to classical music! I have never been one to discriminate when it comes to music, I love it all. Why limit yourself to just a few genres? is my philosophy.

Good call on Alabama. The original boy band!

I listen to everything but rap. I''d say I don''t listen to metal, but I listen to it a lot when I''m getting tattoos or when I''m with someone who is. You just can''t listen to Willie when your skin is being sliced off!

Here are my fav''s:

Supertramp (and also a big fan of ELO)
Three Dog Night
Styx
Little River Band
Jim Croce
Queen
Tears for Fears -- one of my all time favs Sowing the seeds of love
Squeeze
ABC
New Order
INXS
Police
America (a little earlier 70''s -- yikes I"m getting old)
Hall & Oates
The Gap Band (and the Dazz Band)
Prince

IMHO, there is nothing like an upbeat 80''s tune to put me in a great mood...and remind me of my youth!!

I always thought of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin, Edith Pilaf, Elvis etc as "classics" -- but I guess it''s all relative to age...

What a list! that about sums it up right there.

As for me, I am pretty much obsessed with Simon and Garfunkel. My husband and I both love U2, Beatles, Queen, and Police too.

Anything and everything by Queen, I love them!

Wasn''t Queen great? I saw them in concert a few times and there hasn''t been a group like them ever since. I still listen to their stuff while I''m driving. I''ve been angry with Freddy Mercury for being so stupid about his health since the day he passed away.

Let''s add Kenny Loggins (he still looks so damned good in person, it''s indecent!) and Johnny Mathis. He''s a lot older than most everyone here, but he sounds so wonderfully smooth in concert. JM makes you melt into your seat.
