I see no colour difference!!

To be honest, the difference (to my eyes anyway) is very minimal!

But undecided on platinum (concerned about weight) or white gold. Not unplated white gold but not X1 either. Don’t know……………

DW's latest acquisition; a ruby and diamond ring.

Those are my ugly fingernails in the photo; I haven't yet succeeded in taking a decent photo of the ring on DW's finger. Getting both the ruby and the diamonds to come into focus at the same time is proving difficult.

It's like Goldilocks and the 3 bears for me:

#1 is too "out there" for my personal aesthetic
#2 is to "mainstream"

I LOVE acorns on everything. I saw this acorn on Etsy and had to have it. It’s sterling silver and brass. I plan to buy a 30 inch chain but not sure what color chain because the silver is oxidized and the acorn is brass..

@ MamaBee Have you received this yet? do you like the mixed metal? I am thinking of getting the all silver version if the store will sell it without any chain.

I just bought this 14k paperclip chain, which is supposedly rose gold, from an online vendor.


However "red gold" would be a better desciption for it. I tried it on with a rose gold pendant I already owned and not only did the colours clash horribly but it gave me an allergic reaction on the skin around my neck.



Now I know that different rose golds from different suppliers can look a little different depending on the alloy used and the carat weight. But this is extreme! My local jeweller said that this is really red gold rather than rose, and uses a higher amount of copper in the alloy which is probably what would have caused my skin reaction.

I have lots of rose gold, including 14k, 18k and 9k which I wear daily, and none of them cause a skin reaction, so this red gold alloy must have a lot more copper. Look how different the paperclip chain looks against my other rose gold pieces. The bottom bracelet is 18k yellow for comparison.


The next challenge will be getting the vendor to accept a return since they usually only offer an exchange rather than a refund. But considering there were no photos of the "rose" gold option on their website, only yellow, I didnt realise that the chain would come out looking this horrible orange/red colour and be unwearable because of the skin reaction it causes. Such a shame because it had the potential to be a really pretty and useful chain.
