It's my significant birthday next year, and the Royal Mint has a special Chinese Zodiac collection for the Year of the Snake (no prize in guessing what will be my significant birthday in terms of number of years old), and it has this cute little 8mm 1/40 oz gold coin, and I thought, why not get one and set it in Platinum to add to my right hand ring collection?!

Most likely to be a simple bezel set in Platinum, or with a paved diamond halo, or with a pair of bezel set tapered baguette side stones to make it more suitable for dressier occasions.

So these pearl and 18k earrings by Assael just showed up on TheRealReal and I think they're super fun. I've never even tried on big hoops so I don't know if I like them on me. These are 1.5" in diameter with 4mm pearls and now the question is if I don't wear things like this because I don't like them or because they aren't very "me" or because I just haven't come across them. They would be returnable but something about paying shipping both ways just to try them on kind of annoys me so I want to have someone else agree that they're cool before I go for it, lol.

Any thoughts? Do we think these look too much like costume jewelry?



The closest I've ever tried on, 1.25" sideways hoops that I ended up returning:

Omg I love these! I’m biased in that I love hoops but these are super cool. I do wish they had a line of pave down the middle between the pearls because I love the combo of diamonds and pearls together and I think it looks dressier that way, but they are cool.

I don’t think they look costumey but that depends also on the quality of the pearls.

The pearls should be high quality given the brand and also that they look good in TRR's terrible photography. They actually made a pave version too, so you can keep an eye out for those for yourself! Omg I love love love love these!!!! If I didn’t already have diamond hoops I’d be all over these lol but I wear my diamond hoops if I ever want a hoop.

But as a design I freaking love it!

Thank you for weighing in! Sadly the blues we had discussed were dyed but it means I already have a return so that's what pushed me over the edge to try these earrings. Hopefully they arrive soon enough that I can drop them off in the same return period if it isn't love in real life.

Good point on costume! I love your giant rings I especially love the recent photo of your sapphire with the matching blue dress. I was thinking these kind of look like Chanel costume jewelry but there's something fun about that.
