From your collection, which three are your favorites and why? Pictures are highly welcome..

These are my most favorite three stones, although it was so hard for me to decide.

Green and pink tourmaline was cut by Barry and the asscher zircon is cut by Gene

I love the Barry''s ovals. I was not much of a fan of oval cut gemstones but just fell in love with the his cuts. I also love the color of these two toumaline.

I love asscher cut gemstones, especially Gene''s and IMHO he does one of the best jobs with this particular cut. This zircon sparkles like crazy.

These three are beauties Mochi. When are you going to set them?????

If I can just stop buying stones, I would be able to set them, but I have a problem.

Mochi,
Are those your three favorite loose stones, because you have some beautiful ones set in rings as well.

It is difficult to just choose 3 but I'll try.

1. JW Loliondo spessartite: super neon colour and a cut that really stands out
2. Newly purchased cobalt blue spinel: super rare colour. Enuff said.
3. Swala tsavorite: love that blue undertone and perfect square shape.

Honuorable mentions go to Gene's Mozambique Paraiba, the Tanzanian pink spinel and the Burmese red spinel (in my heirloom ring).

Chrono, do you also love them in that order, or is it a three way tie?

In that order but it's a very close call for all three. I'm talking one edging the other out in a matter of decimal points.

I thought really hard about your question last night; the only reason the spess beat the rest by a small margin is due to its humongous size. I love all 3 stones equally for their colour, but because the spess makes the other 2 look tiny, well….you have your answer.

Oh, and the added bonus of being set means I can wear it often to enjoy the colour.

Thanks for the reply Chrono.

I don''t have any favorites, I love them all for different reasons. I do have some unfavorites - stones I kept, but in hindsight, I should have returned, or they were cheap and not worth returning. They are constant reminders to me to be to be picky and choosy about color, and to make sure vendors answer your color questions appropriately.

I have a lot of “unfavourites” as well that are very small, not so good colours, and very inexpensive stones. They are mostly ignored but when I happen to see them, I am reminded of my early days so I don’t feel too badly about them.

I''m going to go with ones that aren''t set (or in the process of being set) and that I have in my possession...

Ummm...

This is hard.

Ok. In no particular order:

1. faceted table copper/peach spinel bought from my local gem store.
2. Gray spinel from Barry.
3. Silvery blue green tourmaline baguette from Barry''s parcel.

Honorable mentions:
-lavender spinel from Barry
-Darth Vader spinel from Dan
-Umba Garnet
-white supernova topazes
-almost colorless tourmaline from Barry
-red garnet cushion from Barry
-teal tourmaline with iridescent gold and pink inclusions

I think I have about 70 stones...so that''s not so bad! Right?

Mochi,
When are you going to set the blue/green tourmaline in the front?

If I can just stop buying stones and save up for a setting... I did receive a setting from LOGR today for the Malaya from Gary. I have to see how it looks tomorrow in day light.

Also purchased the garnet from Gene, should get it next week!!!
