I have a Friday night on my own. I''m going to have a bath, give myself a pedicure, maybe bake banana bread with my overripe bananas if I get really motivated. I may also start packing for my holidays - I''m beginning to get excited! Especially since it''s snowing and -25 C. outside!

Sounds nice and relaxing!!! Where are you going on Holidays? Have fun and hope you get a chance to bake bbread, yum!
3.gif

I''m going to Maui. I''m going with my family but I''m especially excited because my fiance-to-be is coming out midway through and we''ll *officially* get engaged and I finally get to see my ring!
30.gif

Bem, that is wonderful news!!!!
36.gif
Congrats in advance and how exciting, Maui!?!?!?!?! Can't wait for pics of the ring; I love your stone!

Ladypirate, hmmmm chicken and potates w/garlic, yum!
3.gif
Yay for dancing Monday night and selling the car tonight!

Skippy - every time I see your avatar I want cookies!!

I''ve been working on finishing up my programming assignment for my college class. (college is so much more fun at 35!) I''m trying to polish it so my stuff is the ''good'' example again!
36.gif

Dh went to fetch take out curry. Later tonight it''s either pay-per-view HD movie (my turn to pick!), or hot tub. But either way I''m opening a bottle of wine! yum

Hubby is out entertaining clients. I have put the little man to bed, and am doing some PS surfing with a martini... yummy. Likely will read a book and fall asleep on the couch. Yah, I''m crazy.

Well, Gypsy and I have been occasionally chatting on BWW. My FI is here with me but he''s playing XBox games. One of the cats is asleep next to me on the couch and the other one is probably curled up on some pile of clothes somewhere in the house. We got the proofs of our wedding invitations from the printer and we''ve been going over them also. They look great, although we''d like to make a few changes. Let''s see, that''s about it. Oh, for dinner we ordered in (which we''ve been doing every Friday night for a while now). I had a chicken ceasar salad wrap and my FI had a ham and cheese sandwich. We were going to watch a movie but we never got around to it and now it''s late. It''s way past my bedtime.

We are REAL exciting, aren''t we?

Suzy, hubby really wants to do that too! Sounds like fun!

Tonight is the usually crazy stuff with the kids. Littlest had a party after school til 5:30. Brought him home to my nanny for dinner and bath. My sitter had gotten my oldest from school and dropped him at an appt, so I ran to go get him, with Miss Maya along for the ride. He came home, ate, showered, and I ran him to school for a varsity basketball game he and his pals wanted to watch. Met hubby for a quick bite and browsed through Borders, than ran back to school to get my middle son, who went home with another child, had dinner and was dropped at the middle school dance. Hubby ran home to see my little guy and read to him. Brought him and his friend home, oldest went to sleep at a buddy's house after the game. Cuddled my little guy who is still up! About to put Maya out and in bed for the night, hubby in the middle of a deal so he is working in his home office, and I might take a hot bath, read one of my new books and email him pave rolling ring pictures from the Cartier web site! (hey, he needs a little diversion from business, why not plant a seed?!)

Ordering in pizza!
18.gif

Watching something on TV or getting a movie & scouring the internet for items to add to my bling wishlist
31.gif

Having a glass of wine or some Patron Silver ... whichever will help me unwind from my week quickest.
25.gif

All in all ... not a bad evening lined up. ... Now if I could only get home to start the festivities!
thum12.gif
What is on your bling list so far Sparkalicious? Hey every time I see your name I can''t get that Fergie sound out of my head, ''I''ll be up in the gym just working on my fitness'' lol. Hey Cheers Sparks sounds like a good bling plan to me!
Happy%20Congratulations.gif
Hey! Thanks for the bubbly! Cheers to you too!

Too funny! Whenever I see your name - It makes me smile. It''s just so happy. How did you come up with it?

I didn''t before but I''m hearing it now ... after all, the kitty in my avatar does look G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S
25.gif
tee hee.
My real name is Sacha if you would like to get that song out of your head.
2.gif

After all that pizza I had, I really should be "up in the gym just working on my fitness", however, I''m not b/c instead of the wine, I opted for the Tequila w/7-up and I don''t think that I''d be much good in the gym right now. As I suspected, it fixed me up just right and this past week in becoming a distant memory.
26.gif

As to my bling list ... too much... Where to start?!
I would love (and I''m sure I''m forgetting stuff)
- a pair of diamond studs ... 1.5 - 1.75 ctw (see ... not too greedy)
27.gif

- Tiffany Etoile bangle or WF replica
- Diamond pendant ... 1 - 1.5 ct
- Peridot w/ micropaved diamond halo droppies/danglies for my diamond studs
- Tahitian pearl droppies for my studs
- Cushion cut w/ or w/o diamond halo droppies
- Pear shapped diamond droppies
- Diamond tennis bracelet
- Diamond bracelet like Orbaya''s from WF
- This fabulous chocolate pearl necklace w/ a champagne diamond and yellow gold clasp
18.gif

- Something, anything by Leon ... preferably something with huge caratage and a micropaved out bling basket

And so, so, so much more, Skippy.

The sad part is I want it all NOW!

How about you? Anything on your bling list? Think you might be getting anything for Vday?
31.gif

I''m watching SATC reruns and PS-ing, of course! Dinner was Chinese takeout (mooshu veggies for me and kung pao chicken for DH), and now I''m enjoying a vodka cranberry cocktail with a splash of diet 7up. This thread has got me thinking I''d rather be out dancing the night away, though, LOL!
2.gif

Usually I''m quite the optimist, but I gotta say, I miss my Friday nights. DH works 2nd shift, so I''ve been trying to calm the teething toddler most of the day. I made his favorite dinner.....mac&cheese. He finally fell asleep about 10:30. *yawn* I think I''m gonna head up and finish my evening with Harry (Potter, that is).

Bem, my avie makes me want a cookie too, just think of the sugary iced goodness, yum!
3.gif

Indie, I am jealous of the hot tub, I want one! Sounds like you had a FAB evening!
emcocktl.gif

LC, yum to the martini and relaxing

Caroline, you sound like you had a busy evening, I bet you planted the seed. teeheee How fun Miss Maya rode w/you around town, what a sweet dog!

Sparks, wow, what a list; sounds fab to me! My list is short, rhr, upgrade and some studs. hehe Yum, I love me some pizza!
emotion-33.gif

Monnie, you and I both were watching SATC!!! My internet connection went down last night, oh well! Cheers.

So Miss Skippers, what did YOU do??
Miss Ellen, it was fun to see what everyone was doing last night! Thanks for asking. . . instead of renting a movie hubby and I watched House and then I was on my own for watching SATC (you know that girlie show set in NY). I really just ate popcorn and hubby shared his birthday chocolate hazlenut bar w/me. hehe I never had my wine, oh well but I did see Mrs. Salvo might be getting a Daniel K cushion.
3.gif
How about you? Any movies??? Thanks Sugar!

No. I spent my night, ALL ALONE, that I HAD been savoring, stressed out and listening for someone to break in. Which was stupid, because they apparently had already tried to break in another house on my street, and supposedly there were cops running around with dogs, so it was highly unlikely they would try it again on the same street. But, you know, the fear of hearing the news, coupled with being alone planted the seed.
20.gif

Shortly after you started this thread, my youngest called me from his friends house to warn me to make sure the doors were locked (although, later you''ll see why this really doesn''t matter). His friends mother is good friends with some people that live one street over from us. She was there visiting last night, and must have somehow seen this was going on. She called my youngest and told him, I guess so he could tell me.

Remember the neighbor who called the cops when he realized the guy behind us was getting robbed awhile back? They robbed him a couple weeks ago.

Along with several others around us. They think they know where they''re coming from, but can''t catch them. They mainly take TV''s, and cash if it''s laying around. It''s gotten so totally out of hand. We have NEVER, in 20 years had trouble like this. AND, they can pop open new windows, even when they''re locked, so, we''re basically screwed.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I would like to point out that the thieves can only pop open cheap consumer grade windows. There are seveal more expensive windows that will stop them cold (doors too).

I suggest you contact Thermal - Gard to see if they have a rep in the area. Not cheap; but worth every penny - and no theif is going to pop them open (and a lot cheaper than formal security windows - more energy efficient too).

Other than that... too bad you were already taken...

Life is a lot quiter over here.

We just put new windows in 3 years ago. Middle of the line. And whether or not they''re good enough doesn''t really matter, no way we can replace them now.

A dog would be a lot cheaper. Wish I still had my 130 lb Rhodesian Ridgeback. Nobody was coming through anything with that beast around.

Ellen, when I was getting my alarm system the alarm guy (good guy) said we should get a big dog and then we wouldn't need an alarm. I am so sorry, it is very frustrating!!!

It''s true, unless they''re so ruthless they shoot the dog. But most aren''t like that, and they just move on.

If this becomes a way of life, and is not just a brief rash like I''m hoping, I really may consider getting another one. I really don''t want one, they''re just like having another kid around, and I''m trying to get rid of the kiddies, not get more.

But, we''ll see.

It's true, unless they're so ruthless they shoot the dog. But most aren't like that, and they just move on.

There are several classes of thieves:

1) Alarm systems are not very effective as many thieves know that they can get in and out with the goods before anyone can respond to the alarm. The result is that often a dog is more effective than an alarm system.

2) The next level up of thief doesn't care about dogs either - and may specifically target houses with them. Unless you have a specially trained security or attack dog... your dog can be quickly and often relatively harmlessly taken out of the picture by someone who knows dogs.

By far the most effective system is to have a decent security level of windows and doors such that everyone knows that your house is not going to be easy to get into unless you left a door unlocked or a window wide open (Thermal -gard windows - conservor series - can be left about 3" open - and they cannot reach in and open the window the rest of the way.

My guess is that on average a Thermal Gard window probably cost $1250 for older average size windows (and much more for larger windows). Note that they have a cheaper 500-600 series window now that I do not know enough about - but the "Conserver" series is a really great thermally efficient and secure window. I post on another thread that deals more with home defense and home security at times and I posted the Thermal Gard Conserver window as a recomendation and several security professionals followed up with comments about how good the window was - and how it would stop most incidents (nothing will stop them all).

The key concept is you are far better off actually making your house secure than you are in installing alarm systems, having dogs, or even having guns with a willingness to use them. The problem is that good secure windows and doors cost more money and people cannot see the pizzaz in them... and alarm systems have pizzaz (even if they really do nothing). Marketing and image wins again - in most cases.

Hello and WELCOME boyana to Pricescope! Glad you have joined our happy family!

Ellen: you are sooooo not "screwed" in terms of safety. You''re already aware of the situation and that is key no matter what. Second, things have already happened to others in your neighborhood so there is obviously increased police activity just due to those happenings. Please don''t be scared and feel like you''re next... look at it this way: your house is likely more secure than you think since you weren''t hit first and haven''t been hit yet.

A few years ago I came home on my lunch hour only to discover that someone had cut our phone line away from the cable line...I didn''t discover anything until I went inside and tried to make a call from the house phone and it was dead. I went and looked outside and there were footprints in the snow sort of under our back deck leading up to the wires on the back of the house. Long story short: DH and I decided that someone had been watching us and tried to break in, and worried that we had a security system and they could only get in by cutting the appropriate outside wires. We called ADT that very night and had a security system installed the next day. DH still maintains that the system itself doesn''t do much...but the signs outside on the borders of our house are a good deterrent.

We have to dogs, both under 30 lbs., but they bark at the mailman and everything that moves outside...I still think they are a strong deterrent...and we live on a corner lot...we''re very visible which to some homeowners is a negative, but to us it''s a positive thing just because if something did happen, we have 3-5 neighbors who might be witnesses.

I''m unsure that any of my relations here are helpful to you, but I hope they are. I now have a remote thingie (like a car key unlocker/armer thing) that is velcroe''d to the side of my nightstand for when DH is OOT, it''s a panic type thing) I can use that if i''m upstairs and hear that someone is breaking in...I hate living like a prisoner but it''s the safest thing for now. Sometimes you do whatcha gotta do, you know? We certainly don''t live in a bad neighborhood, but there''ve been too many breakins over the years for us to just sit idly by and let something happen.
