Anxious to get the engagement ring

And to think, my boyfriend asked me why on earth would I want to read a diamond buying forum when we weren't actively buying a diamond anymore. Ha! Shows what he knows. It's best to gush to those who understand.

So, who thinks this is their weekend? I have high hopes, but I'm unreliable in my reasoning.

I was right! I have the most gorgeous ring I've ever seen on my finger right now. (to be fair, I may be a bit biased)

However. I find photographing it a ridiculously arduous task. I hate to draw it out, but I'll have pictures and a story up as soon as I have something worthy of posting.

And BTW, it really is worth the wait.

lsmathis1, my story is long so I won't bore you with too many details

My BF and I just celebrated our 5th anniversary last month. We met in San Francisco and now live together in NYC. We've been through a lot because he was never the type of guy who thought he would get married. He came from a pretty bad family situation (parents had a terrible marriage and traumatic divorce) and just never felt that he'd want to get married himself. After learning a lot from seeing healthy couples (such as my parents who have been married over 30 years) and after many many many philosophical discussions about what we both want in life, etc., he is finally ready to move forward and get married. I have been very patient and understanding (hey, I'm a social worker after all!) and we have both grown tremendously from this experience. Our relationship is stronger and more special than ever, and though I've had to wait longer than I would have liked, I don't regret it at all. Now he's shopping for my e-ring...a cushion cut solitaire in a pave band or similar setting. He wanted to retain some element of surprise but I've given him a lot of recommendations

It's supposed to happen by the end of the summer...SO SOON! Keep your fingers crossed for me - I can't wait to share some eye candy when it happens!!!

Bethanying - I seriously know what you mean - I've tried to stay away (from PS), just for my own well being, but darn is it hard. I'm so addicted.

I do agree with you - as much as I like the comradery I am anxious to be removed as well

But, in the meantime this is fun...

Sparkler29 - You know, I think I'd read your story before...did you have a posting elsewhere? It's unfortunate that your SO has had bad examples for marriage in the past, but it seems now that he understands how wonderful, fulfilling and lasting it can be. It all happens at the right time as you well know

I wish you the best of luck - quite an exciting end of summer we have ahead of us. By the way, I loooove the cushion. We looked at some of them but eventually chose the traditional RB. If I could have two, I'd have a cushion as my other! They are beautiful. I love the pave band as well...what a great combo - exacltey what I had pictured for the cushion.

We chose a shared prong diamond eternity band (diamonds all the way around) by Memoire with a RB center stone. It's classic - and I knew it was the one immediately upon seeing it. It's funny how sometimes you just "know".

over other rings - other times i think its driving me loco

with anticipation

for when its MY turn! either way..I...can't...seem...to...stop.

My internet is down at my house so I don't have access to PS everyday. I still am waiting. Was REALLY thinking I would have my ring by now.. Maybe tomorrow? but I think that if he had the ring I would have gotten it by now.. Maybe its taking extra long to make.. sigh..

This is my first post here, though I've done some lurking.

I don't think I'm as close as some of you gals--definitely not in the bought-and-waiting-for-delivery stage, anyway.

We just did the obligatory parental meet-and-greet...he'd already met my folks, and I just met his. Went wonderfully, and from the talks he had with his mom (and later relayed to me!) marraige is no longer an "if", but a "when". How exciting!!

Like Melissa said earlier, it will be nice to make it official, and no longer feel silly for pseudoplanning.

I also have to regretfully say that I'm still in the waiting stage.

To be perfectly fair to him, it's Tacori that held the whole thing up, and the fact that I'm still several thousand miles away. Perhaps there will be a ring waiting for me when I return home to him on Tuesday.

Much more importantly, Tuesday marks the end of the job that had me in CA for so long. (Great job, great researchers, great results, and we'll have a paper submitted very soon, but it's hard to see him so little.)

I'll sign off with the PhD student mantra: "must work harder". (To those who have been in this situation, I'll just note that I unexpectedly was able to prove several things this last week, so in addition to my planned FC paper (Sept. 11 deadline), I am submitting another one to TCC on August 28th (I decided this last night), and have another one to write after that -- and several easy-results papers to collaborate on after that).

I have learned soooo much from this site. I'm soo glad I found this forum..not only am I becoming a smarter consumer, but it's a great outlet for my new obsession with all things sparkly! I am not a person prone to addictions...this is probably one of the very few things I have a bona fide obsession with...and yet I'm loving it! I definitely feel less intimidated as we're searching for our "IT" diamond.

My darling BF an I have had a unusual relationship and difficult relationship as far as acceptance from our familes so we are ECSTATIC that we are finally at a point where we can actually start the official ring search is so exciting! Probably me more than him but...

And the fact that the ring will now segue to a wedding with both of our familes present is...well...amazing. I'm so happy!

I didn't think I was prone to addictions either (well, sometimes with clothes/bags/shoes... ok, so I don't typically get addicted to anything else, but boy have I to these sparkly things & this site where we share our obsessions over them!

GingerBcookie - this site is great. I love learning and being informed, especially on these little guys.
I hope everything goes well with your relationship & families through this whole process.

Life is hard sometimes, but it looks like you have some wonderful things to look forward to!

I know you will find this site incredibly useful during the process...and maybe forever as a diamond addiction seems to be a lasting one!

Hmm, he's been asking about preferred styles...I think I'm fairly settled on an x-prong princess, but since I can't stand a ring that catches on everything: anybody here have opinions on how high an x-prong sits on your hand?

Ladies,
Yes still waiting, possibly this weekend, tho' I'm just not going to get my hopes up. However it IS our ann. weekend! Here's my question-
Is this waiting for a ring like planning a wedding? Am I going to go into a "post-engagement blues" thing? I almost think I've built it up TOO MUCH. (Again I blame this site and all of you, in the nicest way possible...)

But seriously, when I do get it will I be "let down"? Or will all the subsequent wedding stuff occupy my thoughts? Or will the ring not be as magnificent as I'm making it out to be in my mind? I'm not too worried about this, but it has entered my thoughts......
