To me, Valentines Day is a Hallmark holiday that means nothing more than a reason for roses to be priced at a zillion times their regular price and a way to coax men into buying expensive dinners and treats. Sorry, not trying to be a bah humbug, but I don''t feel any more romance on Valentines day than I do any other day.

This year though, the day after Valentines Day is the day I''m looking forward too. Flogging Molly + Floor Seats + A trip into NY = FUN!!

We used to feel the same way about Valentines day. It was never really a big deal at our house. I mean we''d do something really small and personal but nothing outrageous, so this year we decided to make the day extra special and give it a WHOLE new meaning to us that will last for years to come:

We''re getting Married on Valentine''s day!!!

Now it will always be extra special to us and it won''t just be another ''Hallmark holiday''. It will actually be OURS and have a whole new meaning to us

How wonderful!!! That is so sweet and very special for the two of you. Did you do any decorations red/white to go with the day? Congrats again
36.gif

Hey Prinny! Our colors are actually Purple/ Mauve and Ivory. We did think about red and white but I just couldn''t get away from my favorite color. We will be honoring the day with a few details though such as our ushers handing out a single red rose to all of the ladies in attendance, our favors thank our guests for being our valentine and our cake is heart shaped. We''ll have a candy bar with red Hershey''s kisses and Valentine themed candy etc...

I agree that Valentines Day is a "holiday" that has become so commercial, but we each can find ways to take back the true origin of it, rather than letting Hallmark have all the fun!

It works well for you too, he has ZERO excuse for ever forgetting your anniversary

SL: That sounds lovely, I love your color choices. Instead of cramming so much Valentine''s day decor down everyone''s throats, you are doing it in a very classy and chic way. The idea of giving roses to the women is such a great idea. I also love the candy bar idea, how fun! Can''t wait to hear more and see pics.

my husband and i always do something small on VD, but some things we do each year.

tim will make me breakfast in bed and we''ll exchange cards. in the afternoon we''ll probably go to the movies together and hold hands through the movie :) he''ll buy me flowers, and in the evening i''ll make us a nice dinner and we''ll sit opposite each other in our dining room, candles lit, and talk.

nobody will do any work, nobody will go to the office. we won''t spend heaps of money, but we *will* spend time together and specifically schedule activities where we can enjoy each other''s company. he always has VD off work, and we always have a lovely time together.

i love being married :)

We don''t usually do much on Valentine''s Day as it''s so close to my birthday, however, I am staying optimistic for an engagement this year..... I was really hoping SO might propose on my Birthday (Feb 2nd) but I know he has not got the money to buy the ring HOWEVER he has had a very good month at work and will be brining home quite a substantial amount in Feb, the only problem being he is paid on the 1st but it takes five days to clear, just right for Valentine''s Day!! I always manage to get my hopes up and have them crashed down again BUT I will remain hopeful! :-) It would be extra special to me as my Grandad''s Birthday was Valentine''s Day.

I''m going to join the not that into v-day club! I''d be happy with the same thing we did last year, dinner out, not necessarily any where extra special just somewhere we really like, and stuff from philosophy.

Our Anniversary and Valentines Day are less than a week apart. Neither he or I has the money to do something nice for both...I gave SO the choice of combining them into one and I would do all the planning this year and he had to take it next year. I told him I felt like the guy always gets gyped on these types of holidays and it wasn''t fair. The other option was for him to take one of the two days and I''d take the other...he chose the latter. I did tell him he was expected to still do a very small something (card) for whichever one he didn''t have. Just to acknowledge the "holiday", and I would do the same. So I have Valentines Day this year...I made reservations to a really nice restaraunt on Friday (less crowded). I splurged and bought him a pair of hand-engraved Tiffany & Co. cufflinks, as well as a french cuff shirt. I haven''t quite decided what I want to do ON Valentines Day yet...I''ll get up and make him breakfast, but thats about as far as I''ve gotten! I want to do something fun together...(that doesn''t cost a ton!)

Ok...so we weren''t planning on doing anything but I decided to book us a mini-vacation to Ottawa...for my BF who aspires to be the future Prime Minister of Canada! He''s not entirely sure where we''re going yet, but the plan is to go skating on the Rideau Canal, snowshoeing, enjoy some yummy food, and maybe visit a museum or two. The man filled my car with gas and put it through the car wash in -25C weather last night! He''s earned it!!!

Hi Ladies,

I don''t think I''ll be getting a proposal for V-day but hopefully soon! As for the actual day, I think this is the first time V-day is on a weekend since I''ve known him (met him 6 years ago this February) so I just want to spend the whole day together, maybe take our dog for a hike and cook dinner, just enjoying each other''s company.

For anyone looking for a cute/thoughtful/cheap gift (some of you may think this is corny but my SO loved it), one year I got a big poster board and at the top I wrote 10 Things I Love About You and I went out and bought 10 candy bars (milky way, snickers, etc) and I wrote things like

1. You''re the cutest boy under the ________ (and glued a milky way bar in place)
2. Even when I''m sad, you manage to get _________ (snickers) out of me.
3. Every time we kiss, I hear a ___________(symphony)
and so on....you can be creative!

It''s silly but really thoughtful and leaves him with some yummy treats at the end. I also glued some candy hearts and stuff around the poster board to dress it up for the holiday. When I pulled it out he was laughing and loving all the little sayings. I remember him going to bed with a big belly ache though! Whoops!

I''ve told SO that I really don''t want a VALENTINE''S DAY proposal- I think it''s a bit cliche''... but that''s just my opinion (although I wouldn''t complain at this point... ha ha). Now, the day AFTER Valentine''s Day is NOT Valentine''s Day!

I''m hoping for time and nothing more (maybe some flowers). SO has been in Germany since September, and he''s coming home to his parent''s house soon. On the 13th, I''m flying up there to spend the weekend with him. We''re just going to do a nice dinner out, rent a hotel in Alexandria, and have some much over-due alone time!

Add me to the list hoping for a Valentine''s day proposal. It doesn''t have to be right on Feb. 14, but anytime that weekend between Feb. 11 - 15 when I will be with FF is fine with me!

I don''t know if I''m hoping for a v-day proposal, but I know it will be sometime soon.. I know he''s paid for the ring :) He says he knows when he''ll propose so I think it will be soon. I bet it will be on v-day, that way he can save himself getting me a gift for v-day heheh :)))

My hubs is in Iraq right now, won''t be back until May. However our wedding aniversary is Feb 11 (I made sure there was not a pink thing in sight!) and it will be 3 years. I just found my upgrade stone and it should be set and back to me by 2/14. That is my present. I might take our son to dinner, but he''s only 1, so it would end up on the floor or in his hair.
30.gif

I think I might DH something garnet since that is DS''s birthstone, but he won''t get it until May. Eh, I''ve got time
1.gif

We''re not really big on V-day and we''re long distance at the moment.. so it doesn''t look like we''ll be doing much! Bf seems to really want to get me some sort of present, but I told him to just send flowers if he really wants to do something. (Am attempting to encourage him to put his $$ towards something sparkly, if y''all catch my drift!) He has a total sweet tooth so I''m sending him a jar of penny candy from the candy store he went to on vacations as a kid.

Well, I am not counting on a proposal. I just don''t see that coming quite yet.

I wanted to stay in this year, but he insisted on taking me out. I was not going to argue with that. He made reservations for somewhere, and wants to keep it a surprise. He told me I can dress up (I love to dress up). He made surprise reservations last year, but the plan got foiled when it rained and there was an accident on the freeway he was on. He had to call me and have me meet him there, so I got the address and place. Since it is on a Saturday this year, that should not be an issue.

I finally get to wear my silk J-crew sophia dress that has been sitting in my closet for 6 months waiting for a special occasion!

LtlFirecracker, I love that dress! I went on a little J. Crew binge last year (during one of those 30% off online orders specials) and bought it in 4 colors. It''s so pretty.

Wow, I wish I could justify 4 j-crew dresses.

I got the aqua color. I am obsessed with the color blue, and they never have the shade I want. So when it came out, I just bought it. I usually only buy dresses when I need one.

I couldn''t reaaally justify it, except they were on sale for under $150 and 9 of my friends got married last year, so I had a good rotation? The aqua is gorgeous!

Same for us too. I would prefer my FF to get me gifts or flowers on any other day then just because he is "supposed" to for the "holiday." However, I do enjoy the candy that comes out during this time, I just buy it myself!

I just saw FF this past weekend and I don''t think it is going to happen this upcoming Feb. 14th weekend. He told me there was some issue with the ring and it is having to be remade so it isn''t ready yet. I secretly hope he is lying, but for some reason I don''t think he is and I''m just going to have to wait until mid-March.

I KNOW there won''t be a proposal this Valentine''s Day (we''re poor students! boo...) and we decided to keep it simple since we splurged on the holidays and will for spring break coming up next month. He''s taking me to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in the city, and I told him I want to go browse at Tiffanys, lol. Other than that, I have no idea

Dinner and Tiffany''s, it does not get any better than that. When me and BF were in Vegas, he managed to talk the manager into giving us a blue book. I used it to get ideas for my colored stones.

Good job! I wonder if we can be that persuasive this weekend

Its all about how you come across. When he went by himself, the store said no way. He went with me, and I went off to look at colored stones, and we was just wandering when the manager approached him and asked him if he needed anything, and my BF said "yes, I would really like a blue book, do you have any?" He said yes, they did some sort of guy business card exchange, and he got the blue book .

Ahhhh. I see - thanks!

I always did wonder - who does get Bluebooks? Are they frequent Tiffs customers?

I have never herd of the Bluebook until Pricescope. I think if you are a bigger spender, or you think you have the potential to be one, you will get one. I don''t know what it takes to get on the mailing list (we didn''t pull that off). The first place my BF went to told him to buy something for 10k and they would put him on the list. We both laughed at that idea.
