I have an OEC on layaway and I think I’ll be able to pay it off within a couple of weeks! In the meantime, I know I want a simple solitaire in unplated white gold (the diamond is an M color), and I have narrowed it down to these two options. I am having so much trouble deciding whether I want 8 prongs or 4! (I can’t do 6, because the prongs would be on different facets in different places, and that would bother me.)

I had settings similar to both of these for a previous diamond that was not an OEC. I liked both of them. These images are sized to the OEC.

Thoughts?

If it was me I would go with 8 prongs for a stone that large. Now that I think if it, I have a 1.89 oec in an 8 prong setting and I really like the look. Looking forward to seeing your new ring!

8 for that size of stone imho

8 prongs.

8 prongs!

Definitely definitely 8! It’s going to look AMAZING!

8!!!

8, definitely 8!

Definitely 8...
A) is a large stone and certainly can handle it
B) 4 it too modern for a large OEC IMO
C) large OECs just scream for more prongs vs less (again, my opinion)

My vote is also for 8, especially for a stone that size. It'll look great.

I think 8 is fine for that size stone, but I don't love that style setting above because the stone is set down into the metal and it looks like it might be hard to clean. Although it may be open underneath?

It’s open underneath, and I have had this setting before. It was wonderful.

A very definite answer on this question, 8 prongs. Not only will it protect the girdle, it enhances the diameter of the diamond in my opinion.

It seems to be unanimous!

I’ll be nervous to have a 11mm in 4 prongs, so I’ll vote for 8!

I vote for 8 too because of all the reasons above. I wouldn't suggest 4 double claw/4 claws either because then it will look more cushion shaped than your lovely round oec!
