A Paraiba tourmaline ring from Yvonne Raley and David Klass

@elle_71125, I think I just got lucky on getting it right in one try. I don’t have nearly the experience with custom designs that most PS folks have, and certainly am clueless about interpreting CADs. Perhaps it helped that all the elements of the ring were borrowed from other pieces DK had executed before? He made another ring for me a few years ago too and I had a similarly easy experience. For that piece, I received quotes from several other vendors who were all significantly more expensive. This time around, I didn’t even bother shopping around, I knew I’d go directly to David. Super happy about how everything turned out!

As requested, a few more pics. I am photographically challenged. Finally got some sunlight though. Sorry it’s out of focus but the color makes the stone look radioactive!

Your new ring is truly stunning! David does amazing work and this piece was no exception. Plus, you’re right about how affordable he is...it’s one of the many reasons he’s my go to jeweler.

Do you happen to have a photo from what Yvonne listed in her shop? I seem to have a very hard time discerning what is blue-leaning and what is green-leaning with her Paraibas, and the color and glow on yours is phenomenal.

I had never purchased from Yvonne before, but had admired many of the paraibas others purchased from her and figured I could always return it if it was significantly different. Hope that helps!

Thanks @SouthernGent! It is platinum. The price differential between WG and PT was like $200 so I went with the latter.

I will have to look into that when I have him do my ring. He quoted me an extra $500 over 14K yellow gold for his white gold/palladium mix, because palladium is currently more expensive than gold. Several years ago palladium was quite a bit cheaper.

I just checked the daily spot price of gold vs. platinum and if I calculate the prices of each, based on the weights of each specified in the CAD he sent me, there's less that $25 difference. Does that make sense?
