I almost always agree with Simon..
MEEE TOOO! I was just saying to my FI last night ... I''m glad I make my comments out loud to him BEFORE Simon gets to talk, because if I didn''t he''d just think I was COPYING Simon!

Whether that makes us b*tchy or not ...

Mara, how dare you out me! I was going for the vulnerable puppy dog a-la-chicken little. I guess ya''ll see right through me!

You''re right. No one nowadays REALLY wants to hear the truth. They want the sugar-coated truth. The only person who gets sugar-coated truth from me is my pregnant sister and that is ONLY because I don''t want her to go crazy preggo on me

I do solemnly promise, not to miss another episode of AI. I will watch every performance through its entirety - no matter how meh it is.

That''s a good girl.

I am an AI nerd

Yes. You are. The first step is admitting it.

Amen...I don''t do sugar-coating...heehehe.

Speaking of sugar-coating...do you all remember Star Search? Now that was a show I greatly miss, but AI is waaayy better because I love Simon''s brutal honesty! I loved Ed McMahon and his tuxedo, and the spokesmodels, and the dance groups!

I haven''t gotten too involved in this thread because I guess i enjoy reading it rather than contributing. But you guys have been great at predicting so far! As much as I love the show, no one''s really stood out for me this year (aside from Brenna, but that was just a feeling of intense disgust) as far as which one is the one to watch/win, etc. Last year I found it was pretty clear cut by the top 24 that Bo and Carrie would be the final two...Clay and Ruben were really clear to me as well at the same point. This year I''m not feeling any super-positive vibes toward anyone, even Chris, Elliot, Mandeesa, Katherine, or Taylor, who I would say are my favorites.
9.gif

I have to say I do get a little miffed about some of the really ruthless comments about people''s teeth, weight, etc. I really commend some of these contestants who obviously didn''t have money for serious dental work and are still putting themselves out there, probably not feeling so great about the way their mouth appears in front of millions of people, when the one thing people are forced to stare at is their mouth/face. Simon''s never once (that I can recall, and I am pretty observant) made a comment about anyone''s teeth. It''s hitting below the belt when people judge others for physical handicaps such as orthodontic issues. I say "handicaps" because bite problems can cause lifelong problems with digestion, migraines, and the wear and tear on the teeth themselves. It''s really nothing to be made fun of or grossed out by. These issues can cost thousands of dollars and years of surgery/recovery to fix, and I think the contestants in question may not have come from circumstances in which they were able to afford treatment.

Sorry for being a bummer, but I had to put in my .02 on that.

haaa monarch, you sweet thing you!! sticking up for the orthodontically impaired. my hand burns!!

bad teeth is just a huge pet peeve of mine...i can't stand horrible ones! having dated a guy many moons ago who i dubbed 'butter teeth' because he was a smoker...it just totally BUGS when people don't take care of them, sure overbite or something serious where you can't fix it is one thing, but JUST BRUSH THEM...it really helps keep them from turning gray and icky.
2.gif
though like someone said on here recently, elliott's do look whiter lately. and hello $19.95 at the walmart buys you some crest whitening strips!!! bleach cures many teeth evils.

it is great that these people put themselves out there but if you want to impress america, that typically includes how you look unfortunately, physical is an impression just like the vocal part. i also don't think that weight or bad teeth are going to get anyone voted out personally. and while simon may not make teeth comments (random?!), he surely has made weight comments or other physical attribute ones. bad simon!

Butter Teeth?????
9.gif
Mara you are hilarious! I haven''t been following AI so I can''t see how dentally challenged the contestants are!

Regarding Simon, he can definitely tell it like it is, no sugar coating there

I agree with you Monarch64. It is a crazy superficial world that we live in. And I know I can be judgemental as all heck. I mean, who am I to criticize others when I am absolutely not perfect? However, these contestants have seen AI for the past 4 seasons. They know how the public reacts. They know how the judges react. You put yourself out there specifically to be judged. And as AI history has proven, you are not just judge on singing but on inner and outer appearance. We are simply pointing out the limitations that the contestants face based on previous years. Is it right? No. But again.. I am sooo imperfect. However, I would never put myself up for judgement like that.

FLOD...that is so the same thing I think of when I watch the Bachelor or something, these girls must be CRAZEEEE to put themselves under the public scrutiny like that!! I don''t think anyone holds up well in that sense.

Lorelei, they did look like butter, it was pretty nasty. That was back before whitening was all the rage!

My comment was that "Bucky and Elliott need the services of a good orthodontist" Well, THEY DO!! I don't consider that a RUTHLESS REMARK. Lighten up already. I've worked in dentistry for 20 years now and I was making an observation . I wasn't making fun of them. Yes, I'm well aware of all the ramifications of bad teeth.
20.gif
Believe me I deal with it on a daily basis. Bad teeth pay my bills. I also commented last season that Bo Bice needed to get his missing tooth replaced. I'm happy to see that he did so. He now has the money to do it. If Bucky or Elliott win then they should spend some money to get their teeth fixed and for more reasons than just cosmetic. They are, after all, putting themselves in front of millions of people in a very appearance driven industry. If I were either of those young men's manager's I would urge them to do so as soon as their winnings check came in. By the way, Elliott has congenitally missing upper lateral incisors. A difficult orthodontic fix but do-able.
2.gif

I think Melissa looked like a street walker last week. Ruthless? I dunno. I calls em as I sees em. I'm a voter after all and methinks she needs the services of a good stylist!

I didn't see anyone on this board make a ruthless comment about anyone's weight. That was Simon who did that. By her own admission Mandisa needs to lose weight. I think she's a beautiful woman nonetheless and a very talented singer. I'd love to see her win and I would buy her record. I would also buy Elliott's record. I wouldn't buy Bucky's, but it has nothing to do with his teeth.

Oh, I love AI and I am SO glad I found this thread. I guess I''m allowed to like Idol, but not Bachelor huh? :) My early faves are Chris, Mandisa (sp?) and Taylor and I was one of the surprised ones that Ayla got voted off. But the real reason I''m posting now is the teeth thing. See, I work in a looks-count industry as well (figure-skating) and it''s just part of everyday life for me to focus on my students being *healthy* and looking good (which is all-encompassing -- no crazy colored hair, dress nice at competitions, act polite, whiten your teet :) It just goes with the territory. I don''t see why people can''t take care of their teeth, and for that reason I almost didn''t date my fiance-to-be. He has 2 that really need replacing and was going to have it done last year, but he had more pressing dental things he needed done and it all came out of pocket, so he is waiting to get insurance at his new job before he tackles it. I looked at it like this: some people have personality flaws that can''t be fixed, some people have health problems that can''t be fixed. These can. I''m *so* glad I gave him the benefit of the doubt ---it''s not like I''m Miss America or anything. Thanks to many girls not being able to deal with a bad tooth, he doesn''t have a line of exes a mile long either, which I''m glad for.

So, hello AI fans. There''s my off-topic rant for the week or month :)
jen

Oh yeah and about teeth. Gedeon has gorgeous ,white, straight ones. He definately doesn''t need a good orthodontist. Perhaps he''s already had a good orthodontist. But dayum!! Those choppers were just SCARY! My son commented that he looked like he could fit his whole fist in there.

Ruthless?? Perhaps. Scary!!
32.gif
Absolutely!!

On the tooth subject...I was really amazed to see that Rocky had the same teeth as Bucky! Gentics are amazing! But the same hairstyle? Seirously, what the hell is up with that?
11.gif

We''re just about to drop $4-5K on braces for my son...and our insurance has a lifetime $1500 orthodontal cap! (Grrrrrrrrr) I think it''s a wonderful investment, and I would beg, borrow, and steal to make sure that his teeth are nice! Poor little guy is missing a set of molars on the top (not the front like Elliot''s thank goodness) which he inherited from his father, and his father before him...compliments of that Gentic thing again!

PC, I wasn''t singling any one person''s comments out as being ruthless. It was more of a general observation, that''s all. I have no problem with snarky comments, we all enjoy a little snarkiness now and then, and AI does make it easy for us. I just feel that making that making negative comments on people''s physical abnormalities or deformities is unnecessary. I certainly don''t feel that your comment of "Bucky and Elliott need the services of a good orthodontist" was out of line. I''m sorry you felt my post was aimed at you personally, because it really wasn''t. Hope you don''t hold it against me!
1.gif

I agree with the comments that the contestants do take on the consequences of both positive and negative comments or opinions from viewers, and that they need to be prepared for both when they sign on to do these types of shows. I just wanted to step in and give my opinion. I''m not trying to change anyone else''s opinion of what they find physically unattractive, just saying it''s kind of obvious that some of the AI contestants have dental issues that need to be taken care of, but that it''s one of those things that involves a little more than a quick fix or stylist. (I''m not talking about Elliott''s teeth needing to be bleached, because Mara''s right, he could''ve invested in some Whitestrips before the show!)

I wonder if anyone would be "miffed" if a guy commented on a hypothetical female AI contestant not having enough in the boob department, and saying she needed some implants because he couldn''t stand to look at her? Just a thought, lol!

Commenting on anyone''s appearance is appropriate. AI is American *Idol*. Unfortunately, the way one "looks" does effect the voting. My comment on Mandissa''s weight - I was wondering if it would effect her chances. People obsess about women''s weight. Should they - no (not unless it affects one''s health) - but the truth be - they do.

Anyway, back to Idol chat. Besides reading that Bo Bice sucked.
39.gif
Any other comments on who is near the bottom - near the top in the voting?

Sad to read Gedeon is gone.

So when is it on this week? Tuesday and Wednesday? I am excited to see girls and guys performing together!

YEEEEE!!!

Tuesday: performances
Wednesday: results

Found a new article called "SECRETS OF THE TOP 12" or something ...

Sample: Melissa wanted to fly her own makeup artist out from her hometown ''cause she thought her makeup on the show "looked weird". Uh - DUH - but maybe it''s "them" not "her"??

Sadly most of the scoop is like "who''s addicted to Sour Patch Kids" and "What''s Ace''s ringtone?" WHATEVER.

Thanks for the article link Deco!

According to their poll, the next guy to get voted off should be Kevin Covais with 60% of the vote. The next girl to be voted off should be Melissa with 64% of the vote.

Poor Melissa. I''m not sure her makeup artist could have done better since she more than likely learned to apply makeup from them. Yikes!

i kind of like the quickie 2 get voted off each time, now they go down to 1 voted off each week right? so another 12 weeks of this? too slow!!!

Ladies! I started a group to have a Fantasy Idol!

The group name is Pricescope and the password is diamonds.

I hope all you addicts join up!

I feel retarded, I don''t see the click here to join a goup of friends?!??! Does this mean I ain''t smart enough to join?! hehe.

it told me

The group ID must be a numeric value

Starset: did you register first?

I registered, and got confirmation emails, so I know I am registered.

I get the "group ID must be numeric" message too
7.gif

This is from the site Help page:

Q. What is the Group ID?
A. When a user invites a friend to join a group, the email invite includes an ID number for that group that is used, along with the group password to join.

Maybe you can only invite members to a group if you know their email address?

(I removed this because we are not supposed to put email addies in the forum
7.gif
) I sent Mara an invite and maybe we can use her user ID for everyone. If not we will figure out something.

Did you get my email? I asked for an invitation but haven''t had a reply
33.gif

Group ID: 441
Group Password: diamonds

I think that everyone should be able to register then join the group using that info. After about 5 tries the system finally took my info, it kept erroring out, so be patient if that does happen and keep trying....

I setup my elimination on who I thought would go in what order, doubt I will be right!

I made all my picks.

I hope I''m not a burden to the team with a load of lousy picks though.

I don''t think Kevin stands a chance this week if the theme is Stevie Wonder, but votefortheworst might be throwing a spanner in the works.

I'm sure your guesses on the order is as good as any of ours Cinnabar! Here is my list.

1. Melissa ( I don't think she has much chops for Stevie)
2. Kevin
3. Bucky
4. Paris
5. Lisa
6. Ace
7. Kellie
8. Elliott
9. Taylor
10. Katharine
11. Chris
12. Mandisa

My pick to win: Mandisa
