We were all jumping around, so happy, Bo was not let go last night. I think the final 3 are all great, but Bo has really won our hearts. The poor guy got all choked up when he was given the key to the city. It did not look like an act to me. He seems so genuine and down to earth. He could lose the sunglasses when he performs though.

I totally agree with what Simon says 95% of the time, but he''s a little to abrasive in his delivery. And I wish he would not preface everthing with, "If I''m being honest . . . . ."

Can''t wait for next week!

When I see Bo all I want to do is tackle him and CUT OFF THAT GROSS HAIR! It''s all dry looking and stringy...ew!...I guess that is rock band-ish but come on! Under that mop is a handsome guy...when they were showing the background history of them all a few weeks ago there was a pic of him with his hair short, VERY CUTE! If only.

I''m so not a long haired gal, never have been, never will...cut that hair BO. And those sunglasses are just BAD...total 80''s knockoffs that *look* like they cost $5! I think he said they did!

But he does rock the stage and knows how to work it....maybe a bit of a makeover after? I do like Carrie too though...she is a bit wooden but her voice is fabulous.

Too funny Mara...I have often thought the same thing about his sunglasses. I agree with you about his hair, but when the hair people put some of that friz-eaze stuff on it, it is tolerable. (though did you see the shot of his hometown visit, when he had a little braid on each side of his face?) Is he going after the Native Indian vote now, too?

I would love to see his teeth whitened and maybe something done about the giant tattoo on his chest....he sure can belt it out though.

However, with the number of country music fans in the south and midwest, I think Carrie is going to win. Maybe a record deal will wake up her performances....

I totally agree re: Simon, 90% of the time we agree with what he is saying, which is normally things that could HELP the performance if people would just listen. aka don''t be so wooden, or that was boring, etc. Very on the money and better than Randy going ''you''re in the dawg pound for life now, dawg!''
20.gif
or Paula going ''I''m falling in love with you...''
20.gif
20.gif
LOL... Simon says all the things *we think about and would probably never say*.
emsmilep.gif
Sheesh ... I know there are times I''ll be sitting here writing and I''ll erase everything I wrote to try and make it sound *nicer* only to go back and do it again and still not be content.

saw this online...I think this quote is from Paula. So looks like Carrie and Vonzell were kind of split...meaning Bo had most votes?

"Last night was also one of those great nights where the voting is pretty much split down the middle between CARRIE and VONZELL. Carrie hasn''t been in the bottom three at all. She has been wavering a little bit with her performances, as Vonzell has been rising with the likeability and connecting with the audience more. Where Vonzell has a little weakness with that stealth-warrior vocal, which Carrie is able to put forward each week, Vonzell over compensates with the likeability factor. Both have their strengths and weakness. It is going to be interesting to see how that plays out with the voting. I don''t know."

Mara, you crack me up - something REALLY BAD must have happened to you in the 80''s.
6.gif
It''s like the 80''s are your very own Darth Vadar. His glasses are Rayban (though admited maybe raybanish). The style has been around since the 40''s a la beatnick. Now, if you want to talk about dated sunglasses - it would be the bug eye ones - which have made a come back in England.
6.gif
THAT was a bad fashion statement ..and no doubt will be heading across the pond. No, excuse me while I get my leg warmers, sing to Cindi lauper songs & dry my hair a la Madonna.
28.gif
9.gif

I think Bo''s long hair suits his style. I''d leave him just the way he is.
2.gif
If you cut his hair, removed the sunglasses & dressed him in less "grunge" he would turn into an Eastern prep.
2.gif
We have too many of those & Definitely not his style.

My vote is for Bo to win. I would have rather seen Carrie go than Vonzell. I think Carrie peaked too early & Vonzell (though her nerves got the best of her) grew into her voice & persona.

I LOVE 80''s music and all but the styles? BAD BAD BAD. There''s no other word for it. Jewelry? tacky. Clothing? horrific. Hairdo''s? ozone-killing.

Enough said!! I know sometimes styles come back and a few 80''s ones have tried lately but I cannot get behind it. It''s just WRONG! The 70''s maybe...
9.gif

But love the music....oh and those glasses he said he got for $5 at an outdoor fair or something and they looked like they cost $100 or something (his words)...I was like..UH NO? Maybe in ALABAMA! *ducks* Them''s fightin'' words!!

The 70''s is my darth vadar.
6.gif
But, what do I know? I actually told a friend a puckered shirt looked good on her.
6.gif

I took another look at Bo''s glasses - they are very now. My bad - not raybans - similar with sides that look like my parents would wear.
6.gif

To me, the 80''s were more about pink & green - guess what
6.gif
9.gif
IT''S BAAAACCCKKKKKKKKK!

To topic - I still like Bo just the way he is............wait...was that an 80''s song?

Oh man Mara, I LOVED some of that 80's stuff (keep in mind I was 16-26 years old during that decade.) God, those shoulder pads looked great on me and I adored my big hair!! A Flashdance styled cut up sweatshirt with a tank top underneath, tight stonewashed jeans, high heeled pumps. Look out! Black eyeliner, red lipstick, Aqua Net hairspray, spiral perm....sigh......
4.gif

Then there was the music!! New wave, punk rock, hard rock, dance music! I loved the show were the Idols sang songs from their birth years. Most of them were born in the late 70's early 80's, I wish I'd taped that one, so many memories!

You are too funny Mara! You remind me in ways of my wife. As a teen she loved guys with long hair (and I used to have it too) and when I met her she was dating a guy with long hair. I was in the Navy at the time and after she met me realized she really liked shorter hair better.

CHA-CHING!
My thoughts EXACTLY Dave!

After reading some of the comments had to take a shot of this pulled from our retro 80''s showcase.

Jewelry in the 80''s ... huge, yellow gold, with lots of baguettes and EXTREMELY GAUDY.

Honestly, I''m beginning to wonder whether I slept through the 80''s. NONE of Mara''s attributions to the despised 80''s do I remember as a style from the 80''s.
28.gif

Now this - I don''t remember a single person having a ring like that.
39.gif
Though I do remember gold being more popular. But, I wore silver.
39.gif

I''ve got to run out. Upon my return - I will try to dig out some things I STILL
39.gif
have that say 80''s to me. Was I the only one who wore pearls ad nauseum?
39.gif
39.gif
Already mentioned, I do remember wearing suits with more big shoulder pads - but that trend continued into the 90''s. My 80''s fashions rememberence was Madras pants - horrible, Mimi de Mimi jewelry w/ shell motifs, lions and the like, pink pants w/ lime green froggies, sailboats, etc - all of which are back in fashion. Probably why I own shelves of black turtlenecks now
6.gif

Maybe I wasn''t hip. Or, maybe I''m tragically hip.

Hey F&I,

In Long Island, New York gaudy yellow gold jewelry was in BIG TIME. Not sure about the rest of the country but here you saw it all over the place. Oh and the women wearing it had hair teased up to the clouds, heavy makeup, pumps, leather pants or just plain ol tight, etc.

I LOVED THE 80''S! It was a great time in my life as I was still trying to find my place in life. I graduated from HS in 81, got married in 84, had my daughter in 88, moved to Florida and in early 90''s moved back up to NY. A turbulent ride but for the most part adventurous and lots of fun. :) haha... did you guys know I used to be a singer too!
25.gif
In high school I was in a cover band, I was lead singer and could belt out the Beatle songs.

F&I-

perhaps it has to do with the age you were at the time, and which coast you were on. All I know is, out here in CA as a teenager huge shoulder pads, too much hairspray, off the shoulder sweatshirts, really tight jeans (Guess if at all possible), legwarmers, reeboks, leotards ala jane fonda, too much make-up, and generally looking like anyone in the following movies:

Pretty in Pink
16 Candles ( the dance at the school gym epitomizes the look of my 80''s)
The Breakfast club

Or looking like anyone in the GoGo''s or dressing like Madonna. That was my 80''s.

As to get back on topic about American Idol & not hijack this thread, I''ve started my very own confused thread about the 80''s. And, what I remember.

I think it must be the age disconnect. I was married & in the working world. Women were expected to wear very tailored business suits.

Carrie is toast. Bo wins hands down........right?

There''s some evidence that points to a Carrie victory, if you like conspiracy theories
2.gif

There was an article in a respected UK newspaper which stated that Carrie had already won. The article was subsequently deleted and the URL now gives a 404 page not found message, but this is what it said before they pulled it:

http://news.independent.co.uk/business/news/story.jsp?story=640328

Britain''s stars shine for Europe
By Jason Nisse

22 May 2005

Ten British-based business people have been named among the 25 Stars of Europe by American magazine BusinessWeek. However, only five of them are actually British, showing the international nature of the UK business community.

Among the more predictable names in the list are Sir Terry Leahy, chief executive of Tesco; BT boss Ben Verwaayen; and Nigel Newton, who signed JK Rowling for Bloomsbury Publishing. More surprising are Andrew Black and Ed Wray, the co-founders of Betfair.com; and Simon Fuller, the pop impresario whose American Idol TV competition was won this year by Carrie Underwood.

More evidence that it''s fixed, in Carrie''s favour, is that the series CD that is already in the shops has Carrie''s name listed first. Last year''s CD had Fantasia''s name listed first, and Fantasia was the series winner.

And officially American Idol doesn''t count as a game show, so there''s no legal requirement that it not be fixed. It comes under the same classification as professional wrestling. The phone votes don''t count. The producers decide the winner .... and they picked her about 12 weeks ago.

But that''s just one theory. There''s another one that says Bo is going to win because he''s the right gender and colour:

Series 1 winner: white female (Kelly Clarkson)
Series 2 winner: black male (Ruben Studdard)
Series 3 winner: black female (Fantasia)

Series 4 winner: white male, to complete the set.

i really like both of them, but deep down....
GO BO!!!
