Thanks!!! I just wish that one wasn't 3 sizes too small! Its really pretty. I am still kinda stunned I liked it so much.

I ordered one bigger than I figure I needed, because even though we joined Gold's Gym last month, who's to say we won't just give up on going and stay kinda squishy???

They said they can take anything in and make it work wihout losing any beading but Im still nervous.

I'm sure all the alterations will work out fine, those seamtresses can do wonderful things. My best friend ordered a dress that is bigger than she thinks she needs as well (the one that she had on in the store was also 3 sizes too small, she couldn't even zip it up so she had the back clothespinned, so it will be like a whole new dress when it actually fits her! It was sort of stressful for her ordering the dress without knowing for sure how it would look, but I'm sure they will alter it to fit her just perfect. As for the beading and stuff, my mom-in-law to be says it takes more work to move the beading when taking in a dress alot, but it can be done. They say they can take things in up to 3 sizes.

And I totally agree with you that I should just go and try things on, because stuff does look different on and their might be something else I like.... but if its any thing like it was with my e-ring, when I get my heart set on something, its REALLY hard to talk me out of. Lots of jewelery store people tried to sell me thier fake versions of my e-ring, that didnt even really look like it.. but I was NOT about to settle, and everything different from what I wanted looked absolutely yucky.. so I got mine special ordered and that is that! I have a feeling that dress shopping is going to be similar!

Melissa

Yea I was really dead set on this other dress and not being able to try it on really put me off. When I couldn't try it on I started to explore other options.

i am GOING to find a way to try that dress on, if it means flying to denver! HEHE.. I'm determined.. at least for now until people start telling me I'm nutso..
Melissa

Agreed Ame! The dress is stunning on you! Absolutely beautiful!! I love the colored beading/embroidery.
One of my friends had her heart set on a David's Bridal dress, but when she tried it on, she looked "weird" (in her words). She ended up going with a beautiful sweetheart neckline dress that her mom picked out for her to try on and she initially hated. Something she never would have tried but ended up loving. She's absolutely glowing in her pictures from the dress shop!
I still think that a strapless A-line will work best for me. I'm pear-shaped with an undefined waist, so the horizontal neck-line will create a waist, while the A-line will minimize my hips. Of course, we'll have to see when the time comes.

Alexah - I hadn't noticed that dress before you linked to it, and it's amazing!! Maybe I'll have to rethink my dress-"requirements" now...

Melissa - Recently, I've been trying to fight my addiction to Victoria's Secret (and Express!! Love the Editor pants!!!), but since they got the Pink line in stores, I just can't stop!! The pj separate's are just so comfy! And I love the Angels unlined demi. I haven't tried on any of the shaping undergarments yet, but hopefully, I'll have an excuse to try them soon!!

Since I came into my PhD with only a bio minor I spent my first year (last year) just making up classes that I hadn't taken as an undergrad, like Genetics, Ecology, and (ugh) Calculus. Plus, the research that I'll be doing requires a lot of computer programming so we can do touch-screen operant experiments, which will tack on another year to learn programming. Also, we run our experiments for LONG periods of time, so we can follow the learning of each individual bird (and therefore use a small sample size), which makes it 1-2 years for each experiment. So, if I do 3 experiments at 1 year each, and can start the next experiment as soon as the previous one ends, and I start my first experiment this spring, I'm looking at another 4 years at least, not including classes, experiments that don't work, data analysis, writing the dissertation, etc, for a total of 6+ years. In other words, what am I doing wasting my time on this forum?!?

J/K I'd go crazy if not for you wonderful ladies!! Down-time is a life-saver.

Melissa - Just factor Denver it into your wedding budget! Or better yet, take a girls-only weekend trip to try it on!

bethany!!! I'm running over to check out your diamond RIGHT NOW!!!

...but first I just have to say...ame!! GORGEOUS dress! That embroidery is amazing, and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the asymmetrical-wrap-skirt thing. STUNNING!!
1.gif

The wrap and corset set up sucks like 20 lbs off. I swear.

Thanks!

I hadn't noticed the link to Alexah's dress either.. I had seen that in the davids catalog and thought that it might be something I might like. Its VERY pretty. I'll probably try it on at some point. I adore lace.

As for flying to Denver, I would like to.. but between the plane ticket and the $2500 dress.. thats a pretty big dress budget. There are some stores in NYC that carry that line, which is more practical for me to go to. My mother wants me and my sister and her to all just go to NYC for a weekend or something since I've never really been there, so maybe while we are there we can go dress shopping!!

I like the pink PJs too from victorias secret too.. I just bought two sets on thursday. So cute! But my bra collection is really ridiculous. I don't have the angel's unlined demi though.. But the new Angel's Satin Uplift is AMAZINGLY comfy. And there is a satin lined demi that is just as comfy but without the "uplift" padding. Definitely try those Victoria's shapers on before you get abused by bridal shop lingerie prices..(Not that VS is that cheap.. but I really think Bridal shops take advantage of the captive audience factor- my best friend paid almost $300 for just her veil and tiara at davids. We didn't price the lingerie there though.. so I don't know about that specifically) AND.. I love the editor pants too, but I only have two pairs for working at VS, I don't wear pants like that usually. I have 5 or so pairs of Express Cetine jeans for everyday... lol.. I am BAD

6 YEARS for your phD? YIKES!!! I could not do that!! You are crazy.. but I'm sure it will be worth it, if you're doing something you really enjoy..

Okay. B/F wants to go to dinner now.. I'll have to tear myself away!

The birds are actually pretty cute when they peck at my rings. My class ring has an amethyst, which they really love! They stare at it with their heads cocked to the side, like they're admiring the sparkles! Some of them will even try to grab it in their beaks like they want it for themselves! So cute!!!

JCJD----------------

I seem to recall someone here posting that birds have a slightly different "visible spectrum" from humans, and that they can see fluorescence, for example... yeah, here is the link. Maybe your amethyst has some fluor???

I'm offically off the list as well! Thread is "ENGAGED!! Story and Photos!"

Anyone else this past weekend? I'm just trying to catch up after being swept away for the past 5 days!

Q - Yes, birds are tetrachromats, meaning they have the ability to see 4 colors instead of just 3 like us (red, green, and blue receptors). Birds can see all three of those as well as ultraviolet light. I hadn't made the link from bird vision to fluorescence in my amethyst though...thanks! A lot of insects use UV reflectance in their coloring too, so maybe the birds just think I've got a tasty bug sitting on my hand. I'll have to check on that one... Yay procrastination!!!

Melissa - Could you call those dress shops in NYC before you go to make sure they have the dress you're looking for? Make the most of a fun mother-daughter/dress-shopping weekend

I have so far resisted the Express jeans (by not trying them on!!!) They've gotten so expensive too. A couple years ago, I bought jeans from them that were only $35. Now they're $80... Eek! The Editors do enough damage to my wallet! I actually found 3 Editors in my size at TJ Max, so I got 3 for the price of 1! I'm totally addicted... I also just got the new pinstripe Editor a couple weeks ago.
22.gif
Ka-Ching!!!
I'll have to try the uplift next time I go to VS. But I love the unlined demi!!! They're so comfortable- I highly recommend. I'd totally trust VS for the shaping stuff, but it would be nice to try on the shapers when you're trying on the dress. I can just see myself walking into VS with a wedding gown just to try on underwear - LOL!
I know I'm crazy! It's genetic.

Seriously, that's why I skipped the masters, cause 8-10 years in school isn't appealing. Hope you had a nice dinner with your boy

JCJD - I probably will try to call the dress shops if I am actually thinking about going there.

As for express. The Jeans really aren't that bad. They aren't all $80... only a few washes are even close to that much. The one's I get run between $48 and $58.. so about same as the editor pants.. I didn't know they had them at TJ Maxx though.. I was excited when I found some jeans in my size in like the express clearance.. Starting next week though I should get my cross-brand discount of 30% off at Exrpress

LOOK OUT!!

So just to keep this post SOMEWHAT on topic.. I had a dream last night that I looked out my window and saw my boyfriend standing outside my front door with my ring in his hand (It was VERY big and sparkly in my dream) but he was like hesitation to come in or whatever cuz he was nervous to propose.. LOL.. Doesn't take too much interpretation on THAT dream.

UGH I have to get ready to go work now. My 2nd job of the day on my one day off of school. Except I get thursday off this week for Rosh Hashanna.. yay!!

OH MY GOD. That is the funniest thing I've ever heard!!!!!!!!!!! Who has been married the longest and waiting the longest...they are president...and so forth....Q...you are SO funny!

I hope you're next too Melissa! Hmmm... What if you don't know how long you've been waiting to get the ring? Can I just stay at #5 until I'm out of the club?

Melissa Sue!!!!!!!!!!! You can't get me addicted to Express jeans now!! I'm already addicted to this site and posting with you!! Add that to Victoria's Secret (my sister and I went on a shopping spree there just this evening!! so bad!!) and the Editors, and I'm going to need an intervention soon
2.gif
. Seriously though, I just about peed my pants when I found those Editors at TJ Maxx, I was so excited! Especially ones in my size (10-12, depending on brand) - everyone wears my size. BTW, I tried on the Angels uplift, and it was really comfy! It was a tough decision, but I went with another Angels unlined demi instead.
love.gif
I just love the unstructured feel of them.

You know, maybe we should start a new thread for our shopping addictions, wedding dresses and otherwise. Any title suggestions? I can't think of anything appropriate for a diamond forum...

OK, engagement stuff - My bf has been acting weird the past week or so... LOTS of hanging out with his dad (they're pretty friendly, but not super-close), he was noticeably disappointed when I reminded him that I'll be working this weekend, which isn't normal for him, and he's been avoiding and/or jumping around questions about the near future, like what he wants to do for our anniversary (in 12 days!!), whether he wants to see X play in November, weird stuff like that that he's usually really open with. Am I just overreacting and being hyper-sensitive to everything he's doing with no reason, or is there some merit to what I'm seeing? HHHEEEELLLLLLPPPP!!

I'm getting back to my homework now! Good luck with H.A.G.S. ladies!! Sounds like WAY too much fun - the best kind!!
9.gif
Thanks in advance for any advice on the bf's behavior.

JCJD

JCJD - Okay I won't get you addicted to express jeans.. I bought another bra yesterday too though. I wanted another VerySexy Racerbrack bra.. pretty much just on a whim. And I was buying a PJ set to send to my boyfriends sister at college, so I bought myself a bra too. The one Angels bra that I really liked.. It was called the stretch plunge demi I think... but they discontinued it at this Semi-Annual Sale.. very sad.. And they just discontinued the Angels Unlined Full Coverage too.. which I don't understand because that type of bra is so popular and people really liked it.

OOHH.. I hate it when boys act strange and it makes you think something is up.. Maybe he's got something in the works for your anniversary. Don't get yourself TOO worked up for it though, because it will only be disappointment if it doesnt happen. I know this from experience. I thought that one night in the park was it for sure.. but nothing.. very disappointing ... and STILL nothing. It has now been SEVEN weeks since my ring was ordered. I am almost positive that it is in my boyfriends possession. Keep us posted on his behavior though.. hehe.. and of course if you get engaged!

I am in the mood to SHOP now.. hehe.. I had a FANTASTIC night waitressing last night. came close to my all-time total for tips ever.. and it was a TUESDAY night.. I was having a crappy day until that too.. but it definitely made it easier to get through the night knowing I'd be leaving with some cash.. hehe.. NOW.. how can I spend it? HAHAHAHA.. I AM SUCH A BAD GIRL.

You might be right about starting a new thread for these types of conversations.. but its so easy just to come here.. lol.. If we're gonna start a new thread.. I'd say we should do it in Diamond Hangout or Bride World Wide..

Okay. I have to get ready to go to work.. Working at VIctoria's Secret this morning til 2.. Shouldn't be too bad... I can think of things to buy.. Then I have class but only 4-6.. so today won't be bad.. and then I have a WHOLE DAY OFF..yay for sleeping in..

Melissa

I know I should stop thinking about it, but I can't stop sometimes.... We started talking extensively about promise rings a while back, so I expected a p-ring from him for Christmas 2 years ago, but it didn't come. Then came my b-day, Valentine's, my college graduation, our anni, and still, no p-ring. I think bursting into tears on our anni made him REALLY realize how much I wanted one, cause there it was on my next b-day. I'd like to hope he's planning on proposing on our anni, but if I get my hopes up too high and he doesn't, then no matter what wonderful things he does for me, I'll still be at least a little disappointed.

And I definitely don't want him proposing to try and make me stop crying!!! I hate it when I get all depressed like this! Maybe I'll just blame it on hormones.....

Melissa, if we lived anywhere close to the same state, I'd be road-tripping to Buffalo right now so we can have a mega shopping spree!! I think I'll have to settle for windowshopping after yesterday's big $$pend... Congrats on your successful Tuesday!! That's really amazing for a weekday! Hope you had a good day at work and class!

Advice, Help, Fellow Gripes, Reality Checks, etc please?????
JCJD

On a more positive note, my last post was definitely on target with this topic! Yay!!!
appl.gif

JCJD-
I would not blame you for you being disappointed for not getting engaged for your anniversary.

I knew that I wasn't getting engaged for my birthday this year.. because he only got around to ordering my ring about 3 days before my birthday. But.. my DAD was telling everyone that I work with that HE thought I was gonna get the ring for my birthday, so that was a little bit frustrating, having EVERYONE ask me if I'd gotten engaged.. and then my dad did the SAME thing about a week later.. (when my ring STILL would not have been ready) when we took a trip to Ohio.. and I came home and everyone was asking me AGAIN. And then there is this woman I work with who is just a LITTLE BIT CRAZY (read: really nutso) and she has been asking me since about a month after I started dating my boyfriend if I was expecting my e-ring for the next holiday, anniversary, birthday.. whatever.. so a week or two ago.. I hadn't seen her in awhile.. and she asked me If I was engaged yet (as though I would not have told her) and she was like "Oh.. He must be waiting til christmas..) and it was just TOO MUCH FOR ME.. I was practically SCREAMING "NO!! HE'S NOT WAITING TIL CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" For one, because he's NOT waiting until christmas, and two, I'd go crazy if I had to wait that long..

But I totally know what it's like to be waiting and waiting.. and expecting it to happen. Ive been getting so frustrated that when he like asks me what I want to do, I won't answer him because all I want to do on any time free we have together is for him to have a proposal planned!!!!!!! I did it last night, and I think I'll do it again tonite. Oh, i was soo cranky last night.. because I was EXHAUSTED.. and everything he'd say to me, like stuff he normally says in a joking way, or just to tease me.. I'd either yell at him or start crying.. I'm a big brat.. and he told me so.. Haha.. I'm just definitely ready to be engaged.. and you must be TOO after 7 years..

WOW.. don't people ask you ALL the time if you're married yet, after being with the same person for 7 years? Especially friends from high school and stuff?

It seems like EVERYONE I know is getting engaged or married.
*My best friend since 5th grade is getting married in April.
*I just found out the girl who lived across the street from me when we were really little (like 4 and 5 years old) is engaged and is getting married next june..
*One girl I work with just got married,
*another one from work just got engaged,
*two more are also in the ring shopping process,
*one of my friends from college just got married,
*in the one class I am taking two of the girls just got engaged over the summer, which is SO what I wanted.. so I could go back to school with a big rock on my hand.. lol.
*I guess my boyfriends cousin who is younger than us (i've never met the girl) is also getting married next summer, which is one of the major reasons my boyfriend DOESN'T want to get married next summer, because his family is really close I guess, and he doesn't want to make them all travel twice..

I'm sure the situation is similar for you.. I think it is just the age we are..

Okay. I need a shower!
Melissa

I actually talked to him about it last night, cause I was still feeling all depressed, and AGAIN, I'm getting weird mixed signals!! (He did make me feel better though
1.gif
) First, he still hasn't heard about that job yet, and REALLY doesn't have any $$. He knows that I'd marry him tomorrow, no ring, no money, no wedding dress (
1.gif
), IF HE WOULD ONLY ASK!!!!! but he really wants to be able to buy me a "nice ring that I can flash around" and be able to help pay for the wedding and honeymoon. So, the mixed signals in a nutshell: he's flat-broke living in his parents' basement, is dead-set on buying me a nice e-ring AND a nice wedding AND a nice honeymoon, and without a job at the moment, he plans to start this whole process by January! How??? I'm so confused... To add to the confusion, I asked him to tell me in Dec if he can't make the Jan deadline so I'm not freaking out the whole month of Dec for nothing, which he agreed to, but then said, "but you don't need to worry about that happening", implying that his "real" deadline is significantly sooner than I was realistically anticipating! I hope that all made sense to you guys, cause I'm not sure if it does to me.....

Melissa, we're like the same person!!! My dad was shoving Borsheim's Jewelers catalogs at us starting at the 4-year mark! My grandmother has been asking us when the wedding is since year 5. My mother checks my left hand every time I see her. One of my students grabbed my hand to see if my p-ring was an e-ring when she found out how long we've been dating. At first, it was funny, but now it's so depressing!! Up until recently, when people would ask when the wedding was, we'd look at each other and discuss whether next Tuesday or Wednesday worked out better for our schedules!! Now, I just get annoyed and tell the nosy *#!%!*@ that they need to ask the b/f cause the ball's in his court, not mine. When did I become such a bi*#$???

OK, off to class, I'm done with my ranting for now...
JCJD

JCJD - Well it is good that you talked to him about it.. and its good that he said you wouldn't have to worry about it being past December!! My boyfriend doesn't have any money either.. Luckily his parents spoil him.. so he has no school loans, and he had a good amountfrom savings bonds and stuff, that they didn't have to use for school either, so it is a little bit of savings that he has, he used some of it to buy my ring I know.. and he says there is a substantial amount left-over.. but he is not that financially saavy, so I don't know if I really believe that its THAT substantial. Thats another reason why we are waiting til '06 to get married now too. I just sent a letter to his sister who is away at college saying that the next time I saw her I would hopefully be engaged... hehe..

I LOVE the thing about your mom checking your hand.. Thats what my FATHER does.. both of those times when he was telling people at work about it.. When I came home after that he was trying to "subtly" check my hand... AS IF I WOULDN'T TELL HIM. I hadn't realized he was checking my hand, I had thought he was just giving me strange looks for no reason, until someone at work told me that he had been spreading those rumours and it made perfect sense!! My mom asked me when I was getting engaged today.. and I yelled at her.. "Don't ask.. because I don't know.. and i'm not very happy".. he he...

Oh well.. Try not to be too depressed about it.. because we will all be engaged soon..
