Any Opal lovers out there? Show and Tell please.

After @T L mentioned in a post above that Welo opals are both beautiful and affordable, I headed over to opal auctions and ordered this opal. I loved that the pattern looked like little bits of layered confetti :D.

It’s hard to photograph, but looks pretty much the same in person as the vendors photos.

Nice opal. Based on the description, I believe your opal has a bright play of colour. I have hard time judging the play of colour on the photo and in real life. My iPhone always shows more intense play of colour of my opal even the play of colour is not very bright in real life.

I blame TL for mentioning Welo opals being nice and affordable - I want a jelly opal!!!

Mine has arrived, and I like it!

Omg that ring is insane. The colors of the opal and the melee in the halo are perfect!

I have had Opal on my wish list forever (two October babies) , but have been a bit apprehensive to pull the trigger because I know very little about them. But I saw this one and absolutely was in awe. It's on the way now. I'll try to take pics when it arrives, but I doubt I'll be able to do it any justice like this video.

32ED034A-AF07-4279-B815-9D2FD710C2E9.jpeg This is a chocolate Welo opal, transparent. The base color is not everyone’s cup of tea, but it has tons of colorplay, which is why I picked it out at the gem show. It’s sitting in an empty mounting with mounting wax for now, just to show it off.

Absolutely fabulous color!!!

I recently discovered chrysoprase as an alternative to green jadeite, but now you've given me another great alternative...thank you icy_jade. :D

Haven’t been to the caribbean so I googled what’s Caribbean blue... and oooh. Wow imagine staying near the sea this color... maybe wouldn’t need so many gems.

^ icy_jade, your Peruvian Opal ring turned out fabulous! The setting and stone are perfect together - enjoy!

Is this yours???? It's so incredible!

Thank you. Here’s a hand shot

It looks better under the sun/natural light. Under office lighting it’s more opaque. These 6 pics were taken in quick succession by the window with varying light thanks to the swaying leaves/tree outside the window:

It's seriously incredible. Can I ask where you got the stone? It's so hard to find really high quality Peruvian opal cabs!

So many beautiful opals and hopefully some new “converts” to this magical gem.
I’ve been naughty, very naughty, and all will be revealed shortly.
In the meanwhile this opal, to me, epitomizes the magic of opals. Apart from its striking size (I’ve always preferred “huge”) it really is a dozen gems in one. Even in low light, normally a “killer blow” to an opals colourplay, this one doesn’t disappoint.
Her name is Aurora.

If you decide to get some pls return to post.

I nearly fainted @icy_jade The color. The size. The setting.:love::love:

It’s 10 x 12 x 6 mm and I chose a ready made setting via my regular jeweller.
