I''m not a fan. I think they look great smaller in eternity type settings, or on a cross, but they just aren''t me. The pattern of the facets in addition to them being everywhere is what I don''t like about them. I think I''d appreciate them more if I didn''t feel as though I see them everywhere. In England I only ever see rounds and princesses - so anything else is of more interest to me.

Hi Addy,

Are you another Brit? Or an American married to a Brit? Where are you based in the UK

Hello! I''m not British, but I do live here. I commute into London each day for work. I lurked for a long time before I posted so I already feel as though I know you/your posts.

I have a princess, and if I''m completely honest, I know I would not buy another. I love the square shape, but I am a little miffed at how it looks in certain light. It is absolutely fabulous in incandescent (sp?) light, and recessed or spotlighting. But in office lighting or other indirect or subdued lightiing, it resembles a piece of crushed ice. It''s the facets, plain and simple; and I didn''t realize this would be a problem when we purchased the stone, because it has great specs and looked fab under the special lighting of the store. But there you have it - I now know if ever I upgrade it will be an EC or Asscher for me if I still like that square/rectangle shape. Or maybe surfgirl would let me have her stone -- that thing blows me away!

Well, in an ironic (or coincidental?) twist, I took my e-ring (princess cut center stone) to my local jeweler today to be taken out of it''s current setting. I picked it up this afternoon and the jeweler told me that a corner is chipped. So I''ll be starting a new discussion over a Rocky Talky about my situation.

Oh Feb, I''m so sorry to hear that!!

I kinda live in fear of that. Is it because princesses have corners that I''m paranoid?

Sorry to hear that

february2003bride,
That''s horrible news!

I''m so sorry to hear that. Was the corner chipped as it was being moved from the old setting to the new setting?
Oh, I''m very sad for you!

To me, it's not the 'shape' of the diamond that grabs by attention, but the design of the ring.

When FI and I were shopping for a ring, I fell in love with the first ring I tried on (princess). I just loved the design of it. You could get the ring with either a princess or RB centre stone. To me, the RB centre stone in that setting just did not look right and I much preferred the princess. It's a bit hard to compare the two styles in the picture - the one 'standing' upright has the RB in it. Likewise I have seen designs where the RB sets of the design beautifully but would look ridiculous with another shaped diamond.

This is an interesting topic. I have no idea why I don''t "love" princess cut diamonds, perhaps it is a combo of things previously mentioned:

1) Once so popular, I see them everywhere.
2) I like square diamonds, but step-cuts. I don''t like the facets in princess cuts...
3) I love cut corners on square diamonds, the sharp edges bother me, for some reason (although, I have trilliants on the side of my emerald cut!).

But, if there is a nice well-cut princess in an awsome setting, I do enjoy a good look at it!

My original e-ring was a .25 princess in yellow gold.

I am going to have it reset into a plain band so I can wear it everyday. I now have a round brilliant diamond ring that I wear on my wedding finger. I changed to rb because you get more size for your money!!

To be honest, even if I am not keen on a certain cut of diamond, I will still celebrate with the person who has bought one. I love the whole excitment that we feel when someone gets a new piece of jewellery and just because I might not wear that cut, it won''t stop me from sharing in the joy!!

I don''t hate any cut of diamond! They are all precious to someone and that makes them wonderful to me!
