Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

A bit of humour. My friends are all saying they want to quarantine at my house. Part of my prep was getting the fermenters full so we don’t need beer for the next 3 months.

Someone remind me how we got hung up on toilet paper? :lol-2:

I had to (very briefly) venture out and found myself talking to one of my favorite cashiers at the store down the road. She said she is ready to be quarantined after the last week. In more than 11 years at the store, she had never seen them sell out of toilet paper even with snow in the forecast.

Unfortunately, they haven't closed most of the schools. Parents are choosing to keep some kids home. Several schools have been closed each day for cleaning. Several private schools are doing classes online for the next little bit. Certain after school activities are cancelled. Most of the schools are still in session. (Two schools have positive tests in students and another has a positive test in a parent volunteer.)

You should tell him that HIS reaction to your actions were disproportionate to the situation.

He would probably have me put away… After being on this thread I had to go out and buy a whole bunch of toilet paper, and I’m not even in a place where the virus is happening. Yet.

I keep being curious about whether the virus may have been around last fall. I was traveling internationally and within 12 hours of arriving home I went from feeling normal to collapsing and had the worst flu I’ve ever had in my life with trouble breathing. I’m wondering if the strain might have been out there already in October. Any thoughts from the doctors here?

This x 1000 we have à border with them. Not impression.

I'm kind of pissed off with Italy's response. They had one of the biggest outbreaks, dating back to Feb 21. They JUST closed their schools today, after 100+ deaths, and 3000+ infected. They JUST banned large gatherings (ie football games). They still haven't been able to identify a patient zero. Not setting a good example right now.

Not worried, except of flying ,( I feel inclined to treat the airport like an infectious disease ward. Am I exaggerating?

I would love that! If you ever come to Htown, we can go to whiteflash which is only 10-15 minutes from my house!

Whiteflash is also in my county. Ugh, I wish they would let us know where the man who tested positive is from specifically. The county is huge!

I hope to meet you guys next year when I upgrade at Whiteflash!:appl:

It is very possible you *just* had the flu. But it is possible it could have been Coronavirus but as far as anyone knows it originated in China in December. I believe.

No, you are just being smart. Flying is like being in an incubator and with something as contagious as this it is better not to fly right now.

@missy Just being in the airport is dangerous..People have connecting flights..touching everything..crowding..It‘s like a soup mix of all kinds of viruses...not just Coronavirus..

@Jimmianne It’s entirely possible...The virus wasn’t on their radar at that point. I’ve had the flu but never where I had trouble breathing...That’s what strikes me as different..
You should see how much toilet paper I have..:lol:I bought lots for each house not knowing where I’ll be if I have to stay home..Forget about how much canned tuna and chicken I have..I have flour and yeast to make bread and pizza..I want to get bags of dried mixed beans for soup and I’m done..lol

I have had the flu and it did cause my breathing to be labored...of course I have allergic asthma and when I get sick my asthma comes out but I do think it possible to have breathing issues with the flu. I think the flu can affect one's whole body including your nose, throat and the lungs.

@Mamabean wish I could meet up with you all too but it would be a bit more than a day trip for me! :lol-2:

I have two friends who are nurses and they say they are not concerned about this virus. One said she believes this will be like H1N1 and to wash hands. The other says she’s more concerned about the flu.

My husband and I have an appointment with his doctor this morning to talk to him about the risks of this virus to my husband. He has diabetes. He has only been diagnosed for about six months. We’ve never had to manage diabetes while he has been sick and we need advice on what to do. Apparently, things are different than they are with normal people. I also read that viruses raise blood sugar and then the virus feeds on it. We need to know how serious this is for my husband.

@House Cat That’s smart to be proactive now...I have two friends that are diabetic and they are just sticking their heads in the sand. I worry about them.

@House Cat good luck today with your DH's doctor.

I am glad your nurse friends are not concerned and that is what I have heard as well from other medical professionals. And yes, washing hands remains the most important things we can do to stay healthy. That is within our control.

@missy I contacted my doctor about this. She said it’s not too much of a worry for young people because their immune systems are strong. As you get closer to sixty your immune system declines. Anyone over 60 should be extra vigilant and stay home if it’s in the area. My doctor is very relaxed about things...and this was her recommendation.

Fingers crossed for you guys!

I'd be grateful if you could share the info you get. My Fil has diabetes, so being old+ diabetes has him firmly in the high risk group. My Bil has diabetes as well, but he's young and fit, so their doctor seemed to say it's not a risk factor, which is not what I read. I didn't want to seem argumentative/question their doctor/freak her out social when I spoke to my sister...

Well this is unhappy news because most of us (in my beloved people group including you guys) are over 60 or near that age. Thanks for sharing this with us Joanne.

Agreed. My child had the flu this year and needed to use Albuterol in his nebulizer.

I'm using my inhaler pretty often right now. So will say that for people who need to use inhaler or nebulizer, have additional on hand.
