Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

Sharing screenshots of a post in my local FB group. Sadly, this is not a shock to people who have had family in the facility's care. This is exactly what I worried about and I am so upset that my fears are correct. They gave an interview to one of the local news stations. I hope better care will follow. The residents should be cared for! There may be room to argue handling quarantine the way they are, but neglecting to care for residents is NEVER okay.

Regarding why people may be stocking up on water-- if their municipal water tastes bad (as our town's water does) it's possible they normally buy bottled water for drinking. If so, they may be stocking up, in case they get sick and can't get out to the store for a few weeks.

Our home has a well, so we have no need to buy bottled water.

So the people around here are going crazy and it is way too soon to be panicking. We went to Costco yesterday at 11:30 AM and it was MOBBED. As in we almost gave up because there was no parking in the huge lot. But as we were leaving a spot opened right in front of us so we took it. We usually are in and out in less than 20 minutes but we were there an hour it was so crowded. And they were out of the usual suspects. Lysol spray, wipes and something else I forget. Anyway it was madness there. I do not have any idea how it is going to be as more people come down with the virus in NYC but by the look of things yesterday it won't be good.

LOL  One can never have too much TP IMO.

I hate to think how people would behave if it were a true crisis. Oy.

China said today they discovered two strains, a milder one and a worse one, suggesting it has mutated. I think it’s already on community spread in every state, but it’s been chalked up to flu or general virus or pneumonia.

They haven’t been testing everyone and like they said it’s been silently spreading in Washington state for at least 6 weeks.

I think the numbers are much lower than reality. My sister is an RN in pediatric isolation at her hospital and Dh is a doc, so unfortunately I think we are all going to get it, and that isn’t hype. It’s reality.

When companies start canceling functions and British airways starts cancelling flights, that’s not hype.

Like too patient said, someone at amazon has it.

The New York lawyer in critical condition who takes the train to work (and who has an underlying respiratory condition) has spread it to at least 4 more people:

  • Following the positive tests, officials asked about 1,000 people in Westchester County to self-quarantine

In my opinion it both is and is not "hype".

I actually think all these quarantines and containment strategies is about rate of spread and not absolute prevention of spread. At this point, I think many people realize we're losing the containment battle and it's likely to work it's way through many if not most communities.

BUT it's still important to try to slow the spread because as long it spreads reasonably slowly, hospitals and resources can keep up. If everyone gets it all at once and needs services at the same time, then it's a problem. The danger isn't that we all get it because as people have stated, most will be mild, it's more that we are trying to minimize the event where the serious cases are happening now all at once and everywhere at the same time.

So all this limitation to movement and isolation is STILL IMPORTANT. We can almost certainly survive it spreading so long as it doesn't do so rapidly and over strain our health care resources.

Edit: I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm not interpreting the cancelled airlines and functions etc as a doomsday omen of how deadly/dangerous the virus is to any individual who gets it. The virus is still going to be mild/moderate for the vast majority of people who get it. The cancellations are more in reaction to doing everything we can to slow it. Hope that makes sense. So in summary: you'll likely be exposed to it at some point and you'll likely be ok, let's remain calm. But let's do our best to follow recommended travel and exposure restrictions for the sake of people who have more vulnerable health states.

I completely agree.

Uh, in Asia, we rarely use toilet paper and wash instead so the lack of TP isn't an issue in our household. That's all I'm explaining here.

My youngest daughter had a fundraiser auction and I was the high bidder for a family game night gift basket. When I opened it up, this game really stood out. :P2 :P2:lol-2:20200304_151940.jpg

The person that donated the basket has some sense of humor!

That is funny!

Same here and I'm in NY, bidet all they way!

Hmmmm....It shoots water..right? Is there a dryer in there too?! lol

@Mamabean, Please enjoy your day with your son. I hope he is doing well and think of you both often. You sound like you are prepared if the virus comes to your area. We are doing the same things you are doing. I’m concerned but not panicking. My niece is due the same time Allie is. She seems calm so far. She said the last two reported cases in the area rattled her a little.

@TooPatient , Thinking of you and hope you are doing ok. It’s upsetting to read about what is happening in your area.

United Airlines announces they are cutting US flights amid Coronavirus. The spread of the Coronavirus has reduced air travel demand. United is reducing US and Canadian flights by 10% and international flights by 20%.

Pence is giving a Coronavirus update now.

I got a little chuckle out of this

Thank you @Calliecake..You’re so sweet. Chris is doing well so far. He’s still in treatment....
I’m glad you are also preparing. We will
avoid the rush when people realize they need things and they can’t find them. Allie is doing fine too..She and Scott are giving Jackson a birthday party with twenty children! My husband and I will probably come home with some kid germ..One time he got me so sick for three weeks! He was fine in two days! lol

I thought this was excellent. It is a plea for science.

excerpt:

"Let us pray, now, for science. Pray for empiricism and for epidemiology and for vaccines. Pray for peer review and controlled double-blinds. For flu shots, herd immunity and washing your hands. Pray for reason, rigor and expertise. Pray for the precautionary principle. Pray for the N.I.H. and the C.D.C. Pray for the W.H.O."

I bought my TO. It was slim pickings. Good thing I am not sensitive
Coronavirus is now in my county, just north of NYC. :(
