Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

I don't think ANY country is telling the full story. Maybe they don't feel they can.

Hmm, here it sounds pretty straightforward. Since in Germany and France they were able to find patient zero fast and then reacted fast, information policy is very transparent. Numbers are rising faster since Italy was not able to contain, but the European governments test and inform. If you have to self quarantine because of suspected exposure, they'll send a specialized team in Hazmat gear to you to swab and then inform you whether you're positive or not.

The media causing hysteria is likely more dangerous than the actual virus. I am still reading the death rate likely will be less than 1% here. I am not buying into the doom and gloom some are buying into. It's just incredible that anyone would compare this to the 1918 flu when sanitation, medical care, communication, etc. were much different than today. Good article here:

I truly believe the virus has been here maybe for months, because no one was testing for it. It's probably everywhere. Old people would be diagnosed with pneumonia and I am sure the deaths are lumped into the flu/pneumonia yearly death rate. Most mild cases will never be diagnosed making the percentages of serious illness even less.

One more thought, I wouldn't even consider accepting a brand new vaccine that had had minimal testing for effectiveness and not knowing longer term side effects. The last SARS vaccine was not even tested on humans because of the death rate in the mice trials. In any event, by the time they could have had a vaccine on the marker, the virus had run it's course. That is what I am hoping for this time.

For those who'd like some natural ways to boost the immune system and help if you get the virus, here's a good list.

We have Vitamins C, D, and E, and organic green tea, and I think I'll order the resveratrol. They say to NOT use elderberry for this, even though it is very effective for regular colds and flu. If nothing else, I'd certainly have a good supply of Vit C on hand, and I am taking a low amount of C and D now.

I poo pooed Airborne...but my husband and mom have been horribly sick with colds..I didn’t get it when they had it and we’re in the same house. I did get a cold on Friday..that pretty much fizzled out by Saturday afternoon. My colds usually last a week. I give it to my son too and he hasn’t had one cold. It has vitamin C and some other stuff in it I can’t recall right now. We take four chewables a day. I’ve been taking it since the end of summer. I just ordered six large bottles from Amazon. It can’t hurt..
I was Vitamin D deficient so I take that too..3,000 a day..
No..I don’t think it would keep us from getting the virus but boosting the immune system is a good idea..

I'll be going out today going from shop to shop looking for toilet paper....:lol::lol:

If I find any people can think I'm stockpiling like @Dee*Jay I'll be just glad to have some in the house!!!

If you don't find any I'll share my 54 pack with you! :cheeky:

Whew! I just found out the guy in Fulton Co here came back from Italy and self quarantined when he got home because he heard the area he was in was a hit spot after he left. His children (one who caught it) are home schooled. My worries dropped by 50% or more. I am still worried, just not as panicked.

Is anyone else sick with something minor like a cold and almost afraid to cough in public?? I've had this nagging cough and I try so hard not to cough in public places not only to keep from spreading germs (although I always cover) but also because I worry I'll be carted off for testing!! Not seriously but you know...

Yep, though I can't be completely positive it isn't more serious. Been sick for 11 days now. DH and I are both staying home.

Grr... Older people matter too! I am so sick of seeing people talk about how it isn't all that bad because only the old or sick will die. Some lady was talking about how the local response and that at the national level should have been better. I mean, what if this was something that infected children or younger people?!?! It could have been bad if young people were dying... :angryfire:

@TooPatient I would like to know where you are reading this..I hope it’s not here on PS... I have to say this upset me last night. It’s hard for me to believe young people think my life isn’t worth it because I’m older. Is this what they think of their parents and grandparents? My children love me and would be devastated if they lost me. I will just think of that because that’s all that really matters.

My local FB page. So many comments like that. A couple of people have said how disgusting that is, but get ignored as so many others keep going on about how old/sick people don't really count.

Pretty sure there's going to be a dog eat dog mentality eventually anyway. I'm not feeling great. I get one more day to decide if I have to cancel my Saturday infusion or not. But it's hard to tell because I always feel lousy.

@TooPatient I feel really sorry for them...They are hollow human beings..

It wasn't just you Arcadian but multiple people referring to the virus as COVID-19, when that's not the name of the virus (it's the name of the disease it transmits)! Sorry if it is nitpicky.

If you want to refer to just the virus say "Sars-COV-2". If you want to refer to the disease yes then of course call it COVID-19 (or coronavirus).

You can also refer to both the disease and the virus as "coronavirus". There are other corona viruses, but everyone will know what you are talking about.

OK. Well to be honest, I'm calling it what the state of florida is calling it on their health page which is Covid-19. Let me tell you, my mom was calling it the beer virus (only in jokes of course!)

Love you (you probably already know that) I'm not saying your wrong, but it is nitpicky. I'm going to continue to call it Covid-19 unless they start calling it something else as thats all they're referring to. I know, I don't always use all caps, but I will not lie, I don't really care. I make lots of effort to just use a cap at the beginning of a sentence! There's not that many Covid-19 anything out there so it does get the point across.

I want to say something to everyone on this thread; Yes I'm probably cranky and it will come across in my posts. I'm probably going to be cranky for a few days. Just know it where it comes from...lol

Its not YOU (general you), its ME.

If they make you feel better even for a little while maybe you should go. I mean honestly unless the virus is in your immediate area, you're probably at more risk from flu than that stuff. Might be the last one for a while anyway right?

and @kipari I buy TP at 6 month intervals...lol I learned young to never be without tp.

@Arcadian, my infusion knocks out my immune system, so they won't even let me get it if I'm sick. Plus it's just irresponsible to go and be around the other patients and nurses if I'm sick.

@nala - this is NOT an attack, I hope you find this little anecdote funny because I had a good laugh about it.... in the city I live in, in Australia today toilet paper was sold out in every shop and every supermarket because of the mass panic of people. I (despite what you might think) did not panic or go out and buy anything because of the virus, we are now down to 4 rolls of toilet paper in the house by accident.

I said to my husband tonight you know this s@#* just got real when you can no longer buy toilet paper, I guess I'll be wiping my butt with tissues and whatever else I can get instead.:lol::lol::lol::lol:
Hope you're happy because you made me order 2 big packs of TP today! The thought of not having TP in the middle of all this craziness was really scary! LOL!

My parents are in South Korea and the other day sent me a photo of them wearing masks. Not N95, just plain old cloth masks. When I told them it won't protect them, they said they know but people give you dirty looks if you're not wearing them in public. People can't even get on an elevator if you're not wearing a mask. So yeah, fear of coughing in public is understandable and I was thinking the same because my 4 year old is recovering from a cold and still has occasional coughs. Him being an Asian too, I worry if people would not be kind when he's at preschool. In 30 years of living in the US, this is the first time I worried about being targeted for being an Asian...

We have two, I think confirmed cases in Hillsborough County, Florida and a confirmed case the next county over. A third is pending confirmation. I'm not really worried about it, and think some general flu hygiene practices should help make a difference.

Yea that ticks me off 2.
With my health issues if i get it I'm likely dead. Already on oxygen.
Im still not super worried about it.
Im more concerned about the flu right now.

@lyra Can you call your doctor to see what you should do? Do you have a temp?

It’s being reported that the White House is only allowing still photos from today’s Coronavirus briefing. No Audio Or Video was permitted.

I don’t get it..Why?

I don’t get it..Why?

Soooo many reasons. At one briefing I saw, the orange bloviator asked if the flu vaccine worked against CV. When told no, he said something to effect of "ok maybe it'll help a little." He also stated several times that a vaccine would be available soon--3 mos maybe, 6 mos maybe, a year maybe earlier--in spite of the fact that doctors who were present explained to him why that wouldn't happen. He is ill equipped to handle an emergency of this size and potential, knows it, and is worried that CV will negatively affect his campaign.

Lab people here are saying it could be up to 18 months if we are lucky to develop a vaccine, we have good labs in Australia just as you do in the US, 18 months is a long time for something that spreads this rapidly to be out in the community.

@Asscherhalo_lover - the two essentials of life :lol::lol:

ab people here are saying it could be up to 18 months if we are lucky to develop a vaccine,

The doctor who tried to explain it to trump said that once it's developed it has to be tested and it could be 3 years before a vaccine is determined to be safe and that we wouldn't want to rush anything to ensure we didn't end up harming the people the vaccine is meant to protect. I could see from trump's face that he wasn't happy with that and would quickly file it in his ignore & deny drawer.
