Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

LOL You aren’t alone @StephanieLynn . I need to get more tomorrow because I’ve gone thru my Coronavirus chocolate stockpile. What should have lasted a month is already gone in 5 days.

This will be me in Oct 2021. Wedding shred is real... and I’m not even engaged yet?!!?!?!?!!:???::lol:

Thank you! Does anyone know anything about the ANU? My son shared this with me but I haven't looked into it more because my Internet is loading so slowly.

ANU is a very good research university -- world top 30 or so on most rankings. Not much of a student population as it is based in the australian capital territory which has a pretty low population density. But its top tier researchwise with a reasonable postgraduate student population. And it commands a lot of research funding -- which is what boys them up in the world rankings (often ranking as #1 in australia and ahead of most other international universities). They're extremely strong in the sciences.

The current stuff sounds like economics though, overblown with media hype (what is 2.4 trillion in the scope of the global economy, i.e. 2-3% or much more? What time period are we going to take that hit over is it 10 years or 1? Why are we modeling off other flu pandemics, what level of confidence do we have in those models? Honestly what on earth is that report trying to say. Have to admit I didnt read it to closely, as I was annoyed at it within a couple of paragraphs as it appeared to be more hype than substance -- but it wasnt really the most informative thing I've read today (and it is competing against notable titles such as 'let's pretend sticker book with Peppa Pig' :) ).

@Babyblue033 honestly, as much as it sucks to be treated like a pariah, I’m more worried about violence. There was an elderly Chinese man who was collecting cans in SF, and some racists took them away from him and threatened to beat him.

I’m considering carrying pepper spray until this whole thing blows over.

What ❓

Human stupidity has no boundaries. I'm getting horribly repetitive but I'm so disgusted humankind Just. Won't. Learn.

Certainly not going to watch... I'd be upset for the rest of the day...
Sorry you are feeling unsafe

@JPie @voce This week I find myself being self conscious when I'm out, steering clear of other people and feeling paranoid. The other day I went to Target to pick up some extra supplies and when I got to the cashier I noticed she put on latex gloves before she started ringing me up. Last week I wouldn't have given a second thought, in fact I probably wouldn't have even noticed, but I couldn't help but wonder if she did that on my account because I'm an Asian?

My 4 year old had a week long cold 2 weeks ago and still has occasional coughs, and I worry if people would treat him badly if he coughs in school. I hate myself for thinking the worst of people but then I read something like this...

That hurts my heart @Babyblue033...I don’t have words to describe how upsetting this is to me.

Ugh! Reading these experiences make me cry. I am so sorry to all of you who are being treated this way. People can be disgusting and this proves it. I sure hope that most people are rational and kind but it is those people who behave abominably that stand out and make people in general seem awful. And another reason I prefer animals.

Sending a collective hug to all those who need it and sending healing vibes to everyone. May Coronavirus just die away and leave us alone soon. May everyone stay safe.

Also, I do question the decision to leave schools open. It is true that young kids very seldom get coronaviruses, but there are teachers, paraeducators. They are adults. I am also surprised that Comic Con is still going to happen. Not smart.

This is where a decently organised effort with clear lines of advice and communication from federal government would be extremely helpful. They should be modelling potential community spread/age groups affected/interstate travel/loss of income and its relationship to reluctance to seek testing and ability to go into isolation, and then advising, or, if necessary, issuing directives to states. It's clear that some, if not all, cities are going to have to accept losses to their economies, but none are in a hurry to step up.

I'm finding myself desperately wishing Elizabeth Warren was in the White House right now.

And I'm so sorry to hear people are experiencing discrimination. That's so ill-informed and disgusting.

@JPie I clicked on it but it was so horrible at the beginning with bad language that I had to turn it off because my son was in the next room. I won’t watch it later...I know it will be really bad. I think there are people that are just mean and evil to the core....who try to find an excuse to hurt people.

@JPie I would definitely carry it..in my hand or pocket... <3

I’m Chinese but luckily live in a big liberal metropolitan and in a neighborhood with a lot of Asian population and diversity in general. The stories I hear from my Asian friends in other places make my blood boil though.

It never ceases to amaze me the ignorance of some people. Usually the nastiest people are the most ignorant. I find a direct correlation between the two. :(

WA is up to 13 deaths and 72 cases. 12 of those deaths in the county I live in. One of the new cases announced this morning is an employee at the same company as DH. I don't know what building they work in so don't know if they came in contact. I am definitely worried as we are both still sick. (He is high risk category due to age. I am not sure if I count as high risk due to the MS or not, but I do have pneumonia frequently so probably not a good thing for me either.)

Florida's numbers are weird:

Positive Cases of COVID-19
2 – Florida Residents
1 – Florida Resident Presumptive Positive
5 – Florida Cases Repatriated <---wtf is that?
1 – Non-Florida resident

I talked to my neighbor by text....lol She's a nurse at one of the bigger local hospitals and she said its quite the mess. They're having some big todo today about it, she said she'd keep me informed. but they don't have any cases and to her knowledge, no testing kits....

But pretty well known that they're not testing everyone for it here, so likely there are lots of hidden cases. Airport FFL and MIAi both are likely cesspools of germs. PBA to a lesser degree because its smaller. Orlando, probably just as gross as MIA.

I have to pick up my husband on Sunday at FFL. I told him he will have to strip at the doorway. At first he liked the sound of it, but then he understood the reasons why.... and his suitcase will need to be sprayed and sat outside in to dry before it comes in here.

I'm here in northern Austin and will joyfully drive to Htown to meetup.. look forward to seeing your upgrade, alas I will never upgrade in this life anyway! xoxoxoxoxoxo

It would be so much fun! It will be great to have another set of eyes to help me decide! I’m hoping to see @Tekate and @Austina too!

Crud. The positive test at DH's company is in the building next door to his. His team uses the same conference rooms and the people in the two buildings go back and forth. Way too close to home and a very good chance he was directly exposed to the virus.

I was behind in reading this thread. I find it unbearable to read of abuse of the elderly. This thread is upsetting me on more than just the level of my feelings of fear of Coronavirus now.

The world is small. My daughter rode the same bus as one of our recent cases, but a day later, same route. My DH just came back from LA and DC and is headed for Florida next. It's like Russian roulette at my house.

This stinks, overnight I have come down with a bad cold and sneezing. No fever. Bad timing.

I'll flat out admit it, this thing has me spooked. When I get stressed--combined with my MS--it can do a whammy on me physically. Am ok, but that's my deal.

My 83 year old mother, sister & her family, brother & his family & cousin live within 10-12 miles of the Kirkland facility epicenter. Suffice it to say, its been an anxious time & we've been burning up the phone lines between the sarahb household & my Seattle family.

Brother went up to Port Townsend where he has a 2nd home, and my aunt lives up there also. Mom refused to go, and is safely enscounced in her home. She is completely independent & healthy. My sister lives 2 mi away from Mom, & they are in good shape--so far. I am quite anxious though, as who wouldn't be. TooPatient, I hope you & your hubby are ok!! Sending dust to you.

My son, who is in college, has a part time job at Costco. The first call I got from him 1 week ago, about the crowds, & water & TP were flying off the shelves, so I did go the day after the news broke about the 1st Kirkland death. Got to the store before it opened, & zoomed in & out in under 30 minutes. Son said the run on the usual items hasn't stopped.

Just washing hands multiple times a day here....hang in there everyone.

I'll be thinking of your family through all of this. I still hope enough people are working from home and all the extra cleaning/washing/sanitizing will help keep it from getting really bad. Is your son shifted to online classes at this point? I know the University of Washington just switched to online and Bellevue College is as of today.

I just got back from Trader Joe's, and the checker seemed rather hostile. She didn't say hi or smile once, and when I offered to bag my own things, she told me to have it, went straight for the hand sanitizer, and walked away. I hope it had nothing to do with my being Chinese.

JPie, I am sorry this happened to you. Trader Joe's employees are normally friendly, so I do think this was unusual. I am hoping she was just dealing with something in her personal life.
