Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

Crud. The positive test at DH's company is in the building next door to his. His team uses the same conference rooms and the people in the two buildings go back and forth. Way too close to home and a very good chance he was directly exposed to the virus.

That is much too close for comfort. I will be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way.

I'm here in northern Austin and will joyfully drive to Htown to meetup.. look forward to seeing your upgrade, alas I will never upgrade in this life anyway! xoxoxoxoxoxo

@Tekate That’s because you got it perfect on the first try! We will have to find some Tex Mex food! :lickout: xxxoooo

@TooPatient, he goes to a different college in the state we live in--not in the state of WA, & as if yet, his college hasn't made any adjustments yet. Our state also hasn't had any reports of the virus being located here either. But I imagine, as soon as it arrives, things will change quickly. It's just a matter of time before it does.

This stinks, overnight I have come down with a bad cold and sneezing. No fever. Bad timing.

I had a cold last Friday @AprilBaby..I’m sure you’re fine...Sneezing and a runny nose are just cold symptoms..TG

The world is small. My daughter rode the same bus as one of our recent cases, but a day later, same route. My DH just came back from LA and DC and is headed for Florida next. It's like Russian roulette at my house.

That’s exactly like I feel @lyra...My husband did say he won’t fly to California anymore..He’s driving to Ohio on Friday from Pa instead of flying now. He’s been back and forth to NJ and Delaware..I have an adult son with special needs that works in a sheltered workshop...He can’t just take time off or he will lose his spot. He needs to work or Social Security has to kick in which I don’t want. I have to play it by ear.
Tomorrow is my grandson’s third birthday party attended by twenty three year olds. Their parents are all professionals that travel all over the world.....The party is in DC. I feel like I will get something after being with twenty children and their parents..oh boy..

We are pulling our travel trailer out of storage and stocking it up and parking it on our property. That way if a family member gets sick, they can stay in it. It’s a long shot but worth a try.

Positive Cases of COVID-19
2 – Florida Residents
1 – Florida Resident Presumptive Positive
5 – Florida Cases Repatriated <---wtf is that?
1 – Non-Florida resident
I believe this refers to Americans who were brought back to the states from somewhere where they were exposed, ie cruise, students abroad etc.

Welp....it is now suspected at the hospital that my DH works at... :(

Way to suffocate yourself, lady! Meanwhile, no gloves? Is this really a coronavirus response, or was it a photo appropriated from some earlier time?

I laughed because at first I thought what a crazy person..Then my fear kicked in and thought..hmmmm...That could work!

Oh no! :oops2:

LOL You aren’t alone @StephanieLynn . I need to get more tomorrow because I’ve gone thru my Coronavirus chocolate stockpile. What should have lasted a month is already gone in 5 days.
I don’t buy Hershey kisses because I take a handful at a time...They are delicious but evil..

I hope it isn't! I hope they are handling everyone as positive for it. That is one area I feel our local hospitals and first responders suffered. Stay safe!

I keep being curious about whether the virus may have been around last fall. I was traveling internationally and within 12 hours of arriving home I went from feeling normal to collapsing and had the worst flu I’ve ever had in my life with trouble breathing. I’m wondering if the strain might have been out there already in October. Any thoughts from the doctors here?

Wondering this, too. I got suddenly and dramatically sick in late November while working a huge conference of 50,000+ people in Las Vegas. It was the only time in my life getting pneumonia. Terribly ill. Took three months to recover. Not sure my immunity will ever be the strength it once was. The idea that COVID19 will come back this fall is terrifying.

I know! And we are up to about 44 confirmed in my area. And well. I work in a middle school so there is that. :(

DH was told to stay away from the floor and that the patient was isolated in the ICU. DH has been sick for two weeks already. Very healthy but mid fifties.
Our Governor said that 70% of us will get it. Of those who contract it, 80% will fight it well, 23% ( who needs math?!) will need support fighting it.
Thank you for your good wishes.

Oh my gosh! The first time since I could remember I was so dramatically sick in my life from the flu was after I went to a figure skating event in Las Vegas in October last year, and I was sick for weeks, taking time off work! Something was definitely being passed in Las Vegas in late 2019. I had never in my life been so sick from the flu before and wonder if Jimmianne could be right.

We had company from Europe here over the holidays. Two days after taking them back to the airport we caught the worst flu we have ever had in our house. My husband and second son were flat out for over a week. We are pretty good with keeping germs to a minimum because of one asthmatic kid and one that had a major surgery of the spine less than a year ago. We have wondered over the last few days if it's possible we contracted something other than the flu.

You’re probably right. The woman who spread the illness to my team (let’s just call her Lola) wasn’t ‘patient zero’ but she knew exactly who spread it to her... Lola said she was patient #2 or #3.... the frustrating thing about it is that she knew she was very ill but still came to the event to work. Further, Lola’s staffers later told me she always comes to work when sick.

Maybe the seriousness of covid19 will get her to change.

As more information comes out on the scarcity of testing kits for this virus, I become more and more outraged. South Korea was able to test everyone in their country. Apparently the United States rejected testing kits used in many places all over the world; insisted the CDC make its own kits (these were contracted out to a private company); there was a mistake in their design; and now the private company is seriously behind in producing even the number of test kits requested by the government, let alone the number needed.

I heard one pundit say that "Medicare For All" would be run by this government and to look what a mess the government is making with the Coronavirus.. Well, I happen to support Biden, not Sanders or Warren. But I see this as the fault of the government lying and also giving a contract to private industry,

Why couldn't we take the same kits South Korea did? Why did we cut all the funding for science, specifically a huge amount for the CDC? Maybe Trump wants the number of cases to look low in this country and doesn't care whether the best health measures to protect us, the people, are put into place. Maybe a lot more schools should be shut down. Maybe a lot more businesses should be advised to cancel conferences.

It's interesting to hear these stories from those who've caught a rather nasty form of the flu, for which I'm so sorry. But IMHO, anything is possible with this bug..someone up thread speculated that this may have been around for some time, I think it was DS, anyway, I wouldn't be surprised.

"New York City officials pleaded in a letter to the federal government on Friday to send more test kits for the new coronavirus, saying that the city’s limited capacity to test for the virus had 'impeded our ability to beat back this epidemic'

As of noon on Friday, fewer than 100 people had been tested for the coronavirus in New York City over the past month, according to the city’s Department of Health, even as concerns grew that the virus was circulating largely undetected.

State officials said on Friday that so far 33 people in the state had tested positive for the illness — the majority in New Rochelle, just north of New York City. Officials conceded there were likely far more.
'I think it’s fair to say we have no idea how many New Yorkers have been infected with this virus without knowing it,' a New York City councilman, Mark Levine, who heads the City Council’s Health Committee, said.

Demetre Daskalakis, a deputy commissioner in the Department of Health, said on Thursday afternoon that New York City presently only had enough supply for 'around a thousand people' before running out.

The city’s letter on Friday to top officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggested that the limited number of tests was already undermining the city’s efforts, citing 'slow federal action.' Americans have struggled to make sense of conflicting information from official authorities, including President Trump and members of his own cabinet. Vice President Mike Pence, who previously vowed that 'any American could be tested,' conceded on Thursday that 'we don’t have enough tests today to meet what we anticipate will be the demand going forward.'”

Hmm. I was sick all of last Sept. and into Oct.. I wonder if it WAS around back then. I got bronchitis of course. I don't usually get sick because of all my precautions. Only problem with the theory is that with COVID19, it seems like you can be infected more than once, and keep getting it if I'm understanding correctly.

I heard the same thing @lyra..I hope not..

First case of Coronavirus just confirmed in CT. From the article:

"On Friday evening, the governor said an employee from Danbury Hospital and Norwalk Hospital, who is a resident of New York State, tested positive for coronavirus, COVID-19."

“UPDATE: Oklahoma, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota now reporting coronavirus cases.”

Food for thought.

If I read these articles correctly, some scientists are saying the L-strain developed from the S-strain, and it was predominantly the L-strain that caused the outbreak in Wuhan. If this is true, then it's possible the virus did not actually originate in Wuhan?

I've heard the same theory put forward (supposedly from a scientist in Japan) before, and the Fortune article mentions an institute in France. So more than one group of researchers think so.

We have a case in Delaware County Pa. That’s where I do a lot of shopping and go out to dinner. I just went to the Costco that she went to..It’s getting pretty scary. My husband said we should stop going out to dinner...

I wish people here (my area near Seattle) would stop making fun of people who are choosing to not go out to crowded events or eat at restaurants. Some are making a big show of going out just to prove it is all a bunch of needless hysteria and trying to guilt others into going (since lack of business is hurting small restaurants).
