Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

@whitewave ... I deserve a good citizens award because I had 3 (dirty with 4 olives) quarantinis at lunch. My insides are properly disinfected.

Lol no coronavirus for you lol

Are you guys still having housekeepers come and clean? I'm thinking we should cancel, but still pay them. Would it be bad to pay and ask for future "credit"? We do once every 3 weeks now, but can do once every 2 weeks in the future?

I’m still having mine come.

We don't have anything like that, but people in our local FB group have been talking about it. Those who are saying what they are choosing to do have shared that they will be continuing to pay the housekeepers and landscapers (and nanny, etc) but not having them come. Nothing in exchange. Just keep current pay, no anything owed later.
I don't know if they will still be doing that as it looks like 6+ weeks rather than just 2 weeks.

Good luck as you try to decide what to do!

I just had mine come Tuesday. I told her that we may have to cancel for a while. The owner travels occasionally..

Are people self-isolating at this point — to be clear, even without symptoms? Schools are canceled here and some people are saying they are not allowing their kids to have friends over - not even one. My friend said there is no “one” any longer each person is his or her contacts. My husband is in this camp! And he is the reasonable one! Others seem to be going about daily business still.

I'm not. But I am frequenting smaller locally owned establishments that will suffer more than larger ones or national chains and I'm trying to go out during off-peak times for shopping and restaurants. We're in a rural area with 2 confirmed cases of covid-19, both people have been isolated at home and don't require hospitalization. Corona virus will take its time getting to my end of the state so while I'm taking prudent precautions, I won't significantly change my behaviors until it gets worse down here.

I think I'm the only one here in isolation at the moment. It's not so bad. I think just staying away from crowded places and sick people is what is important right now. Social distancing works and does help. I am literally not going out of my house. I mean, I can go outside, just not around other people.

Pretty much. I live in the Seattle area (close to the majority of the deaths in WA) so there are a lot of confirmed cases around and who knows how many not tested. My college has moved classes online so I am finishing school from home. DH's company told everyone to work from home. We have been home sick, but I have been better (likely just MS symptoms lingering) and needed to grab a few things today at the store and pharmacy.

I will see my chiropractor on Tuesday as there aren't many people around and he keeps everything very clean. I may go in for a massage since that place is very clean and the spa area has very few people in it. Other than that, minimizing out as much as we possibly can. Group events were already cancelled.

The challenge right now, for me, is that I am on the board for a group in the area and we are having to make decisions on events for the coming months. Do we plan as if this will be over? Do we split events into multiple smaller events? Postpone until later in the year? We need to line up volunteers, event space, insurance, supplies, and how much we advertise. Advertise effectively and get 200 kids plus their parents. (usually, great!) Anyway, it is an interesting time.

I’m severely limiting being around people after today. I have all my supplies. I just have my husband and son going to work..which are the wild cards. My husband said he is pretty much isolated in his office. He is doing teleconference calls now instead of meeting face to face. My son’s sheltered workshop has banned visitors. If I need to pick him up I go
ask for him through the outside intercom..and he will come out. We usually eat out every weekend. We’re not doing that anymore. At some point I will head to my other house in Maryland...but have to wait until it gets worse so his job will be more understanding....I would have to contact so many people to take my own kid (adult) out of his Sheltered
Workshop. He could lose benefits so I won’t do that lightly.

We are self isolating here at this house. Last weekend was our last night 'out', and I was a bit uncomfortable going. I ran to get dog food at a pet store, & get my chicken from a local chicken farm, so no big crowds today. Yesterday I filled my car up with rubber gloves on. Our grocery stores here are out of bread, milk, meat, potatoes, pasta, pasta sauce, all the usual demand items etc. I am so glad I got ourselves stocked up ahead of the curve. And now, we have no desire to go anywhere.

Our state is now up to 16 affected. Our local news posted a story of the travels in my city of those affected. Locations that were literally within 4-5 miles of me. If that isn't enough to make one pay attention, I don't know what will.

Hello Loves Vintage,

I am self isolating because I am immunocompromised from cancer and cancer treatments (chemotherapy and radiation).
When I do have to leave my home for doctors appointments, I wear a mask and gloves.
I am also self isolating as my contribution to ”flattening the curve’ of COVID19” infection. My eldest daughter and her family are isolating as well.
I have seen the numbers explode and the patterns of COVID19 in other countries.
It is heartbreaking to know that people are dying because their country’s healthcare system is being overwhelmed by so many cases in a short period of time.
So we are self isolating to protect ourselves and everyone else, today and into the future.
An MD in the U.K. stated that the virus should peak by June.

Yes we are self isolating at this point. My kids have no school for 2 weeks, but I think it will be extended to 4 weeks, or even more. My husband is working from home. We are staying home except for a very important doctor's appointment for my son on Monday.

Self isolating here now that school closed. No outfit at the mall is worth getting sick over. I am not an alarmist, just someone still recovering from a two-year health ordeal, that's all.
Be well all!

I've been watching this doctor's daily videos. Please watch this one. Numbers don't matter anymore. Very informative videos posted daily. I don't know how to make this smaller!

@lyra would it be possible for you to post his daily videos. I live in the USA but I have got to tell you that his video was very informative, and better than stuff coming out of our country! Thank you so much for sharing!

12 now in CT, including a “community physician” and first case in Hartford county reported.

https://www.wtnh.com/news/health/co...tamford-citys-public-schools-to-close-friday/.

People who are presumed to have but who are not being tested are not being reported in media so really hard to know extent of the outbreak here. I suppose that is The main reason for wanting testing - to require isolation and also so that other people in the area are aware of the extent of the spread.

We did self isolate today, except we went for a trail walk. The weather was so beautiful here this afternoon, after a very rainy early morning.

We are self isolating.

There was a top doctor on CNN saying the only way to stop the spread of Covid-19 is to assume everyone you come in contact with has it. He stated we need to self isolate immediately. This is what we can do to flatten the curve.

@Mamabean , Hoping the workshop loosens the rules so you can keep David at home. I can only imagine how stressed you are feeling trying to keep everyone healthy. You are dealing with a lot.

@Slick1, You are so right about the outfit at the mall. Thinking of you and your family and hoping everyone stays healthy.

@sarahb, Like you, this became very real when the first case showed up 5 miles from where we live.

I bought a small bottle of Purell to keep in the car now because someone pointed out how dirty gas pump handles are. I wish I had thought of gloves.

MissCygne, I have to interrupt this thread to tell you how much I love your avatar!

Thank you for your kind words Jimmianne. My avatar is a photo of a vintage ring that I purchased as a setting, almost 15 years ago. I am still looking for the ‘perfect’ center stone for it,
In the meanwhile, a friend very generously ‘loaned’ me his diamond to take a photo of my ring.

That octagonal step cut looks amazing as a center stone. Unique and quite striking!

Housekeepers shouldn’t have to be cleaning people’s houses right now :blackeye: Stay safe, everyone. I’ve lived through a few widespread diseases in my lifetime and have never seen things shut down like this.

@Slick1 Is your husband self isolating too? My husband is not in the least worried which to me is dangerous. I think it will be two weeks or less before I go to Maryland..We’re going next weekend. We’re going to load up my husbands car..I’m going to pack clothes for a week and possibly stay two weeks and reevaluate when I’m there...

@Calliecake I spoke to my husband last night..He’s not worried at all which I said before is dangerous to me. He doesn’t think about germs in the first place. Were going to Maryland next week...I’m going to load his car and mine with supplies..I decided to stay two weeks and evaluate from there..I’m happy you’re isolating..❤️

@Slick1 I am so glad that the school is closed and that now you can stay home and away from the madness. You have been through too much these past 2 years. Stay well and sending you continued healing dust and good thoughts and big (((hugs))).

DeBlasio is intent on keeping NYC schools open. I get the reason why (hot meals might be their only hot meal of the day) but I question the wisdom...at times like these we have to choose the lesser of the evils and if the outbreak is not contained as much as possible that could be worse.

We have over 421 confirmed cases of Covid-19 which means of course many many many more than that.
