Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

I honestly have no words to describe the stupidity of some people. The crowds at the start of this half marathon today are insane. I understand it’s open air and that charities will potentially suffer (although surely anyone who’s sponsored a runner would pay anyway in current circumstances), but if the London marathon is cancelled surely a local one should be too? This kind of thing is exactly why I’ve changed my mind on UK policy to keep schools open - it creates a sense of ‘carry on as normal’, which is barking mad in current times.

Carnival Cruises, Norweigan and Royal Carribean are cancelling cruises until April10. Bahamas Cruises are also cancelled.

Sending lots of well wishes to your mom. I get your worry because I am very concerned about my parents and my MIL too.

Thank you very much, @missy. You’re very kind, but, of course, I knew that already. =)2

Best wishes to you, your husband, and families for continuing good health.

Clueless, how old are they?
My heart goes out to you. I’ve been right where you are now...helplessly watching your kids do stupid stupid dangerous things. Please take care of yourself, and you will be in my thoughts. Hoping a good outcome for everyone . I am really angry for you right now.

Hi jimmiannne, they're both 34. Please don't be angry for me , I didn't post this to upset you or anyone else just needed to vent. Thank you for your kind thoughts it means a lot to me.
I am also sorry you had to go though something similar, hugs to you xo.

I can’t believe the marathon.

A person in the know told me Touro hospital New Orleans is converting 40 rooms into negative pressure rooms.

The masses are asses.

This is another example of how it becomes impossible to curb pandemics. There are also reports of people being re-infected. I didn't read the articles to see if they were less or more sick with 2nd occurrence.

Fed cut interest rate to zero.

I was on FB and people are talking about going to Kalahari in coming weekends. Really? People really think that's a great idea in the middle of all this? No wonder we can't contain this thing...

I think its because some people want something else to think about and others think it will blow over in a couple of weeks.

Illinois just banned all dining in at bars/restaurants. That could be catastrophic for small businesses

Trump and Pence should have ordered self isolation today. We are risking people lives by not self isolating. We need to accept that we can not live our lives the way we did a month ago.

And I'm all for distracting oneself from so much worries and uncertainty, but indoor waterpark just seems one of the worst place to be during a pandemic...

NYC schools are closing till end of April. My son's preschool program is suspended through end of the month too.

Not that I thought keeping the schools open and risking safety of children and faculty was a good idea, but I have to wonder, how are parents supposed to go to work or even work from home while the kids are home and need to be entertained/educated?

Connecticut public schools will all close for at least 2 weeks beginning Tuesday 3/17:

Conn. (WTNH) — Governor Ned Lamont announced Sunday he is issuing a full closure of all public schools beginning Tuesday, March 17 for at least two weeks to mitigate the spread of the highly-contagious coronavirus....

Now if only they would close restaurants and coffee shops! I wish! It would make my family safer.

Well...yes and no. and this is where the biggest problem is right now. There's no clear or concrete answer for parents, and when you have a single parent or both that must work...it gets murky. Maybe the water park will chlorinate the bejesus out of the water....

Sometimes the indoor pools are so chlorinated I can almost feel it in the air, so the air might be safe, too!

It is already catastrophic for them here in WA and there are no orders about them. Banning in person dining could be a way to save them, crazy as that sounds. The sooner this stuff gets under control, the sooner their business will return to normal. 2 weeks of no business is less of a problem than 20 weeks at 25% normal. (It truly is awful. Just trying to see any way to get this over faster so small businesses are hurt less.)

I am in Switzerland close to the Italian border and am very worried about our neighbours. Our building has many 70+ residents who were very blasé about the virus and insisted on giving the 3 kiss greeting regardless of what was happening in Italy. I am disgusted with the hoarding/stockpiling going on. We were in London this week (very irresponsible I know) and the panic and stockpiling has started there too. I'm glad people looking to profit off of hand gel and masks have been shut down by Amazon. Think the government should take their 'inventory' away and give it to the hospitals and health care workers who need it. So, no not worried for myself but am for the elderly, which includes my ailing parents in Oregon. I hope they have caring neighbours. So much of what I see is a chest thumping cry of 'my family needs protection, and only my family', but it should be 'our society needs protection' .

Oh and our city is pretty much on a 2 week lockdown. All office work is WfH now.

I'm a teacher, I'll be having my own son home while remote teaching. We'll figure it out and people/companies are just going to have to be more flexible during this. There's nothing else we can do.

I think these people should all be branded on their foreheads with a scarlet "C" and when they show up at a medical facility for treatment they should be squarely refused.

MORONS.

Yeah someone thats running for schoolboard...and there you go folks.

I wish there were more visible stories of people with less than severe issues. All I see are stories of critical cases. I've seen a few stories about minor cases but not quite enough yet to set me at ease. I suppose that is because few have been tested.

It is a daily, if not hourly conscious decision to take a deep breath, and not let threat brain overrule rational thought. It's exhausting. I know I'm far from alone on that. I keep reminding myself that there is balance... we are just seeing all of the negative now. Perhaps there is good in that too. If all we heard were positive, few would take this seriously. And we must take this seriously over the next 2 weeks to make sure many don't get critically sick all at once.

Making the choice to stay home, limiting contact as much as you can - that is not a fear based action or a restriction of liberties- its an incredibly selfless act.

What an awful person. CA just closed all bars/wineries/clubs, which I think is a good move. They said restaurants can stay open but must reduce in person dining by 50% to allow social distancing. Emphasis on take out/delivery. Happy that Newsom did this.

I'm very worried now. I actually wonder if my husband and I will survive if we contract the virus. This idea stemmed from reading a post on reddit today where a woman listed resources in Canada, for making a living will and basically a denial of intubation (DNI). She is a cancer survivor, and she decided she is very high risk, and she will forgo treatment because her chances for survival are very slim. It's very sobering. I admire her ability to set everything in order. But it's frightening really.

@lyra I understand your fears. Please try to stay off Reddit for now. It’s not helpful to read this and will only make you more fearful. You have a family who loves you and you are doing everything in your control to keep yourself safe. Please try to focus on that.

I’m also feeling afraid. My parents are in their 80’s with health issues. I have a brother on anti rejection meds due to a double transplant who works in a field that will remain open to the public.
