Are you worried about the Coronavirus?

Well the good news is I don't have Corona the bad news is I have an ordinary flu. Yes I saw a doctor ones willing to isolate and see people in case it was Corona and unlike lots of other morons I self isolated just in case.....

I've been making jokes about what happens if you have the flu and then get Corona at the same time. Been in bed ill a lot for the past two days I probably shouldn't joke about having both simultaneously, but hey what can you do :shock::lol: and the medical people did say if I developed any respiratory symptoms like shortness of breath or chest pain go directly to hospital. Having ordinary flu is a great way to get people to take you seriously and not want to come in contact with you.

I am so grateful you do not have coronavirus. Get better soon so that if you get coronavirus, you will be back in fighting shape! No more jokes about getting them at once!

Love and hugs,
Deb

Mother's flight changed to arrive back in the USA later this week as countries are now closing their borders. Not sure what is going to happen next as I expect her to be quarantined somewhere. I'm not sure what is the US policy for those flying in from the Middle East, yet was in EU for a few days. We are currently citizens so there's no worry regarding not being allowed entry but I am a little worried about where she will be held and her care during quarantine.

Ugh. I’m so sorry. Wishing her a speedy and safe re-entry.

The first trials for Coronavirus vaccine has started

@chrono big hugs my friend. Certain airports of entry are exceptionally busy. I hope she can call you and let you know where she ends up.

@chrono Hope you find out what is happening soon!

We have just had the announcement that increased social distancing is coming into force now in the UK. Although it has been expected I still had a horrid knot of anxiety in my stomach.

Does she have a cell phone so she can keep you updated as she travels home? I hope it isn't anything horrible for her. I know they were saying airports coming in were very crowded. Hopefully they sort that out by the time she arrives.

Well, Denver has declared closure of all restaurants, bars, etc. - I'm about 40 miles north of Denver, so I am sure that our areas will follow similarly, soon.

I'm still not worried about anything around here, really; the general hysteria and lack of common sense among so many are what make me most afraid.

Still, with all schools and universities closed, it means I have exactly $0 in income for the next month or so, and yet somehow my school and everywhere else still expects everyone to pay their bills. :(

Fingers crossed something works out. Hope everyone else in a similar financial situation is OK, too.

We have a resource to leverage during the crisis. It’s not a big part of the solution, but every little bit helps.

@TooPatient We have been communicating via What's App so I hope we can remain in touch the same way.

Hi,

Has anyone of you wondered how it was that China could set up a 1000 bed hospital and the US can't. Well, his morning it was announced that one of our large hospitals took the initiative and planned out special and separate spaces in their existing facility to test and treat CV patients. Temporary tarpish buildings were set up and supplies are being sourced by the City of Chicago that includes all the hospitals in the area.
Rush Pres said that weeks ago it made the decision to be prepared even though they did not know how bad it was going to be. This was done by them , no Fed Gov't involvement--only the City.

This is leadership, done by a hospital. By the way, this is realy true-- this hospital and its doctors saved my life--really many yrs ago. So I love to hear this impressive news.

Glimmers of light. STates have been stepping up and doing good. I don't know if Redwood reads here, but this is surely a case where the states are doing the job of the Federal Gov't.

Be Well, Annette

That is wonderful.

Well Canada just closed the borders, except for americans. The reporters shredded the PM and the ministers for still allowing americans, given many of our infections came from there.

If we were not in a national emergency there would have not been the money to do this. I'm not being argumentative, just realistic. A state can call a state emergency but cannot manage the costs of such emergencies on their own as most don't have enough money in their state coffers.

States when they call emergencies mostly use the same EOC system that the federal government does. Each level of the EOC gives the state more power to do things. Additionally, at least in Florida, each county also has an EOC and, even cities have EOC's. This releases not only money but positions these entities to enforce EOC laws.

This is always the case in all natural disasters that happen around the state. This is why cities, counties, and states must call it early enough to get the money in the pipeline.

There's def federal moneys involved because the National Emergency Plan has been in the works for a long time. If they wanted to do this with their own money prior they could have. They do it now because they will be (rightly so) reimbursed.

The PM made some adjustments today. Closed the borders to anyone who is not a citizen or permanent resident. But I think he excluded the US from this? I'm unclear. Too late IMO, but whatever.

In the GTA we now have 4 designated isolated hospital testing facilities. So if you are referred for testing, you can only go to those. Good idea, although getting referred for testing might be a triage situation. Hospitals are trying to create beds and isolation scenarios.

People are severely hoarding everything. We can't get chicken atm and today we are actually having to use steaks to make our own ground beef. I guess steak was on sale because everyone chose chicken. We're okay although we seem to have a large stock of brown beans. Might get gassy in this house. Much quieter out and no people or kids on the streets.

@lyra Yes, americans are still allowed in. I think they just didn't want to piss of trump lol.

BC STILL HASNT CLOSED SCHOOLS. But they closed casinos and a bunch of other things. I can't believe they are still open at this point.

@telephone89 It's crazy that schools aren't closed there. We have closures on all schools here. It looks like kids won't be returning at all this term. I don't know how parents are managing, and suspect that grandparents might be being recruited, which isn't great. I'm so glad my kids are grown and that I have no grandkids.

I applaud New York Governor Cuomo's successful effort to coordinate rules with his neighbors New Jersey and Connecticut on how to handle closures. He clearly stated that he wanted federal rules, but sbsent those, that rules guiding several neighboring states were better than a total patchwork.

Now I want The Army Corps of Engineers called in to build Hospitals. Cuomo once was the HUD Secretary. I never liked hm (unlike his father) but he is at least not a total moron. He knows that the next problem will be that hosptitals will be overwhelmed and ventilators will have to be rationed. In Italy if one was over 70 he didn't get a ventilator in the triage system, but was left to die if his lungs didn't function.

all 4 Canadian deaths have been in BC. It's extremely easy to cross the border back and forth. There may be an announcement tomorrow on if schools will close. It's been completely irresponsible to keep schools open while the virus is running rampant in the province.

Sask just announced their schools are closing.

Town of Palm Beach has a 9pm curfew. They have not closed restaurants but have encouraged them to do take out and delivery. this is where lots of the rich folks are so.... :roll2: They're doing it to keep non residents off their streets basically (its spring break right now) their shops are still open during the day.

Hi,

Thank you Deb for helping me out in a reply I am making to Arcadian.

Arcadian-- The Fed. emergency was not declared until last week so Rush Pres hospital had no benefits from the Federal Gov't when they began their planning.

The States may benefit financially, but the policies they are instituting come from leadership in those states, not the Fed Gov't. That was my point in speaking about the states leadership. School closings, rest limits, public gatherings ect. are decision being made by the states. There is no National policy.

The New York Times has a headline that say Pres tells States to source their own Respirators. The Hospitals in Chicago, thru the city have done that.

The post was meant to applaud those that have made the hard decisions and have the vision that the Fed lacks. So cheers to Rush Pres, St Lukes, Hospital in Chicago, and the many Governors who made hard decisions. Not everyone is incompetent.

Annette

Bay area is implementing a shelter in place starting at midnight. People wont be allowed to leave their homes unless it is for essentials/hospital/etc.
