Aside from bling, what's your "big ticket vice?"

Travel and fine dining :)) .

Guns and TVs.

I'm with Madam Bijoux - bags all the way. I've recently graduated from Chanel to Hermes and will have my first Birkin soon. :appl:

Unfortunately FI is obsessed with exotic cars, so my purse funds are never what I want them to be. boooo

I'm too cheap for "big ticket vices" but DH and I will spend good $ on TVs. We have large flat screens all over the place, and DH always feels like we need another one. And they are always mounted with hidden cords ;))

I'm looking forward to the day I can have some big ticket vices!

Well, we don't do as much traveling as we'd like but trips to various places would probably be our biggest vice (when it's in our budget). Last year I probably would have said "furniture" because we bought new living room and dining room sets.

I suppose my 'vice' is Louis Vuitton, but I haven't been able to buy anything all year. :blackeye:

Our second 'vice' is sucking all our moolah - this house.

I admit I'm jealous of all you folks and your travel. DH and I have never been on a holiday, ever! Well, we went to Paris once for our honeymoon but that was one night and in the hotel from hell - thank you Hilton Hotels. I can't wait to travel with DH! :appl:

Lately, it has been designer dresses.

Mine is definitely travel. We haven't even been overseas lately but we like to travel comfortably (usually not extravagantly) and with six of us it gets pretty spendy. I've got the bug bad now. I don't know that it's all going to happen but we're considering Hawaii in March and Paris in early June. It will be the first trip to Europe for the kids so I am hoping we can pull it off.

They're not all necessarily big ticket items, but even as an admittedly cheap person I have no problem spending my money on:

- Foreign and domestic travel
- Lobster
- Sunday paper delivery
- Really good pens
- Engraved personal stationery
- First editions of my favorite books

Sports Tickets and Trips

Rangers are in the playoffs and DH is trying to get me to okay tickets and a trip home for one of the games. I'm holding off because of the 3 reasons below...

My mom and I just finalized the cruise we are taking to Italy, Croatia and Greece next September.
Possible Mexico trip for Christmas this year, with my family.
Hawaii in March for a wedding.

Eeeek!!!

Designer handbags, mainly Chanel.

Luxury watches: Cartier, Rolex, Chanel

As I'm getting older (I'm 30) I am now starting to shop less and save more, however. FF and I have never traveled internationally together, and we've been together for 5 years. :errrr: So we have both decided to curb our spending on material goods and save towards travel and creating new memories together in new locations.

So, I have a feeling our new big ticket vice will be travel, like many of you have mentioned.

Sports Tickets

Didn't think about that...yeah, we go to a lot of sporting events. DH is a proud Bengals season ticket holder, and we regularly buy extra tickets so I can join the fun. We just bought tickets to the Reds playoff game at home, go to Buckeye games, hockeye games...you name it.
If we go one vacation, we make sure to see a sporting event, even if it isn't one of "our teams" playing.
And horse racing. DH and I like to travel to see different tracks and make bets.

I have a thing for handbags, especially Louis Vuitton :naughty: .

definitely fine dining and clothes! And me and my hubby like nice cars. We are scheming on a Range Rover HSE right now, but we are trying to hold off for awhile as we don't have any car payments at the moment and I love that feeling.

Charbie, it's crazy... the minute playoffs hit, I start searching craigslist for deals. Then, not to mention the food/drinks/crap you buy once you get there.
So much fun though. DH and I want to do small trips around the US, of ML baseball parks. Ideally we would like to do as mnay sports in one trip as possible, but can be difficult for baseball and football. We're working on it. Maybe in a few years

If this makes you feel any better at all...we used to have a Ranger Rover supercharged and it was nothing but a huge headache. Tons and TONS of electrical problems.

I just bought a first edition of To Kill. Mockingbird. I got it for a steal. I thought about re-selling it on eBay to make some dough but I can't let it go.

I don't think kids/ home improvement count as vices!

Ours would probably be wine.
Believe me, when both are playing multiple sports, it becomes EXPENSIVE! Hundreds of dollars - registration/playing fees, cleats, uniforms, consession donations, coach gifts, photos, designated weeks where snacks are brought for after games, etc. Maybe not a vice, but it's insanely pricey to have active kids.

Agreed 100%! I don't have kids but I am active in sports (three team sports, one individual - figure skating, which is hugely expensive), and it does get very pricey! Equipment, attire, practice time, registration fees, it all adds up fast! That is definitely my big ticket vice!

I'm gonna chime in here, if I may. My cousin had 2 Range Rovers back to back, the newest one being the Sports Edition, and her car is at the dealership every other month over 1 electrical problem or another. The seats, windows, navigation, etc. I recall how often it is because I pick her up on the days she doesn't have a car to go to grad school classes together. But they are gorgeous cars and I still LOVE the way they look! :D

Btw AutumnNovember: I love your car too! Sporty and chic!!

Totally agree...I loved driving the range rover because they DO drive really nice but the electrical problems in that car are just ridiculous. It's not fun when the suspension light goes on every other week.

Thanks!! It's really SO's but we both spend equal time driving it :)

Also, which Chanel watches do you have? I have one white and one black from Chanel and I'm hoping that they come out with a silver one because I haven't seen any yet =[[[[[

Come on, DF, do you really expect us to believe that??? We all know your big ticket vice is your koi.

I don't have any big ticket vices anymore, unless you count tickets to see live music, or great wine. We're staying within a budget to save money for a house in the near future and a wedding next spring/summer, so big ticket purchases are few and far between at this point, which is fine by me! I used to love great handbags and of course jewelry, and FI is a musician so he loved buying expensive guitars and everything that went with them, but now we've cut back so we can realize our foremost goals. Next will be kiddies (we hope) and god knows those will suck the life out of your bank account! We're in our thirties, though, and we've had our fun already...different strokes, yanno?

kids are cheap...teenagers are the expensive ones...

It used to be cars until I got my Audi and then I had been there, done that, and had the t-shirt. ;)

I go to Frederic Fekkai's salon to get my hair done, but I don't think it's that much.

Antiques and things for my home.

Shoes and purses....although I don't have plans for any purses while I save up
for my dream Birkin

This is another vice of mine. I own a first signed edition of Birth of the Firebringer. I also own a First edition second printing of The Yearling. I have several first editions of Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth Series. I have a First edition second printing of the collector's illustrated edition of The DaVinci Code as well as a First Edition of In Tuscany by Frances Mayes.

I also keep OLD books. I have a book o poetry from 1892, and another from 1910.

This is so true. A year or two ago I would have said my vices were expensive handbags and shoes. Now I have a 1 year old and a closet full of Louis Vuitton and Chanel that are gathering dust while I rock a diaper bag and flats. Designer goods just aren't practical with small children. I can't chase after my daughter in 4 inch Christian Louboutins and I don't want to ruin a $2000 handbag by stuffing it with bottles, diapers and babyfood. Also, since like most of us I have a finite amount of $, I have a hard time purchasing luxury goods for myself when I know it could go to DD's college fund or other things she wants/needs. It is funny how your priorities change when little ones enter your life. I don't feel deprived though, DH and I waited until our 30's to have kids so we could enjoy a few years of making a good living by ourselves where we splurged on travel (both of us), bling, bags and shoes (me) and sporting events (DH). Now I am happy to spend on DD rather than myself.

Designer purses, sports tickets, and travel. :))

Little kids can get expensive too. We just got Disney annual passes for the family, and let's just say, some people have e-ring budgets around what we paid last weekend!

Actually, that's a big ticket item. We get a lot of annual passes to various theme parks because we live exactly halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego, and we have tons of theme parks in between the two.
