Beauty slurges - what''s worth it?

I have some Dior and Estee Lauder lipsticks and eye colors I like. I like the Dior holiday color palettes. For hair I love the smell of Biolage shampoo and I have a few Aveda hair products I really like. I use the Dior eye cream and dior mascara. Not too splurgy here; I do want to check out Bobbi Brown. I think those colors look beautiful online and I keep meaning to get myself to the nearest BB counter.

eta: I love Origins too; I love the fat lip pencils, lipsticks and eye shadows and I love their chocolate body butter; price is great too. I guess they don't sell the chocolate anymore, darn. Vanilla lavendar sounds good, I will have to check that out next time.

DF - I replace the pads every three months and then replace the whole curler every six months because I fear the hinges may get old since I use it daily. Maybe that''s a bit neurotic. . .I just did a google search and some say they use the same curler for years and wash the curler *once a month*

Yuck! lol (And that reminds me of a story I read on MUA about how The Tyra Banks show did a story on how many bacteria are on makeup brushes! lol I guess for some people who never wash their brushes, it''s REALLY bad. Continuous reapplication of contaminated makeup with gross brushes!)

MC, can''t you just replace the pads?

The Shu curler actually only comes with one replacement pad, and then you are supposed to throw it out - the SA at Sephora told me once a year you should buy a new one.

I love splurgey makeup - I use Stila foundation and lately I''ve been really into NARS lipstick and blushes

Skippy, the vanilla lavender is a tad potent, but still if you like those two together it is fine. I loved their citrus stuff, tangerine and grapefruit...yum.

DF, okay thanks, I plan to head over there on Monday and check out the new scents. Is the Citrus stuff also Origins? I love citrus; very fresh and springtime. I love grapefruit too, yum is right!!!! I will stop at Bobbi Brown too. hehe

Oh I completely forgot I love for skincare products La Roche-Posay and Vichy. I stocked up while I was in Paris. hehe

I use these everyday.

yes, I think it was called fret not and gloom away...

their ginger stuff is nice too...

They don''t sell replacement pads?
Do you know why it needs to be thrown away once a year?

Shiseido pads (which sell for $5) are said to fit the shu curlers.

I have a couple of eyelash curlers but my lashes have a curve in them and I sometimes lose lashes so I tend not to curl them. Shu is supposed to have the best one though.

I can''t live without my Galvanic Spa, Tru Face Essence Ultra, Celltrex Co-Q10, 180 System and MaxGXL. They are not cheap but they are totally worth it. [When you get into your mid-50''s you will understand! LOL!]

The SA at Sephora told me it was because the metal loses its form slightly, which sounded dodgy to me, but as there were no replacement pads on offer I went ahead and bought a new one

MC - I might have to try the Shiseido ones if I can find them...

Amber, I always believe people when they tell me things like that....but gah, what a waste. I hate products that are designed to go obsolete (but if I wanted to be rich, I guess I''d design them

)

Someone told me once that you should only press the curler for a few seconds, and only do it once, or you will risk eyelashes falling out. Do you know if that is true?

I don''t use a lot of beauty products, but I swear by LaRoche-Posay Anthelios sunscreen. It''s about twice the price of Neutrogena or Coppertone, but it''s very protective (I have fair skin) and feels more like a nice moisturizer than a sunscreen.

I also like Diorshow mascara quite a bit.

When I wear powder, which is almost never, I like T. Leclerc.

I''m still looking for the perfect lipstick, however, and I fear I may never find it.

You are supposed to curl non mascarared lashes, and squeeze gently and move the curl from root to tip. Otherwise you risk putting a kink in if you do it in one spot or do it too hard.

I have long curly lashes so I almost never curl them. I also fear losing lashes so I avoid it. A lot of mascaras now are curling formulas.

DiamateBlu,

I tried a Q10 cream from DHC and I loved it, I am 58. My face was sooo soft and hydrated. I used it for 3 weeks, then developed horrible brown spots on my face. I was so upset. There is something in the product that had a reaction on my skin. They are beginning to face now, but it was the best face cream I ever used.

Linda

The only skincare item I am fiercely loyal to is the Ecological Compound by Sisley.
It's the world's best moisturizer... seriously. I have really dry and overly sensitive skin and this moisturizer somehow just really takes care of my face.

I haven''t seen any eye make up remover listed here. Does anyone have one that''s really worth it?
I LOVE Lancome Bi-facil. It works very well for waterproof mascara, but it''s greasy so I first remove my eye makeup then clean my face and eyes with cetaphil. It''s $26 for a bottle, but I''ve found I can get the gift-the-purchase sizes on eBay for a fraction of that cost. I usually buy a group of them selling as a lot.

Thank you! I totally forgot that I posted here, that''s how little make up I wear. I only wear Oil of Olay face lotion for the SPF in it and then mascara and black eye shadow as eye liner. It''s not water proof but I have the hardest time getting the black eye shadow off. Clarins is nice but hasn''t been quite cutting it so I''ll try the Lancome, thanks!!

I just bought some goodies at the Bobbi Brown counter whooo hooo. I ended up with a primer shadow, a cream shadow (galaxy), a gel eyeliner, some blush and 2 new brushes. Bobbi Brown cosmetics rock! I have deep set eyes so when I wear eyeliner I sometimes get a little on my upper lid toward then end of the day, but the gel liner stayed in place all day! I love this stuff

Skip, her new cream shadows, all matte, are lovely and she has some new blushes and shadows out. Her gel liner is wonderful, it was reformulated from its initial launch. I really love her products. I will admit to loving things from all lines, I am not devoted to one only, but her liner is tops in my book. Great color range too.

I LOVE Bobbi Brown (currently use her foundation, bronzer and eye shadows) -- I will have to try the gel eyeliner! I rarely wear eyeliner because my eyes get kind of greasy throughout the day and it wears off quickly, but I''m excited to give this a try!

Cle de Peau products are amazing. Very expensive but I have never been disappointed. I love the concealer, and their new glossy lipsticks are beautiful.

La Prairie has about four glosses that I love, a nude, a rose, a gold and a berry. They are stunning.

I love Guerlain''s bronzers and multi colored shimmers.

Ted Gibson hair products (used to be a hair model for them when living in NYC, as well as FF).....worth every penny!

Others include: Dior Show mascara, Chanel nail polish, and Evian misters (do they count?

I have a storage closet full of them)....

I still am in shock that it stays put all day. I love it!!! Let us know what you think.

Krissie (and Skippy and anyone else who has this problem) - the BB gel eyeliners are great, but I sometimes find them hard to apply subtly, and they can dry out in the container pretty easily. What I've found even easier to work with, and what stays on (literally) until you take it off (seriously, for days - gym, work, evening, sleep, everything), is MAC's liquidlast liner. It comes with its own brush which I find is easier to use than the BB gel eyeliner brush, and comes in some really lovely colors (I have about six different ones in a range from subtle to more dramatic for evening wear). I don't use a lot of MAC stuff normally, but this stuff is amazing, especially if getting eyeliner to stay put is a problem.

ETA: you'll need an oil- or silicone-based makeup remover to get it off. I just use Almay brand from the drugstore - it comes in a little canister with individually saturated pads, and one good swipe with a pad followed by one good swipe with a tissue takes the eyeliner off perfectly.

Thanks, I will have to give that one a try too!!! I love trying out new makeup
