I do not know about disco lights, but we recently went to Disneyworld, and in one of their space machines, my ruby turned bright pink! I was holding my hands below the "control panel". My husband''s eyes popped out, it was so unusual. As far as I can remember, the alex did not fluoresce. Should it say something to me, LD, or can it happen?

And where does fluorescence come from anyhow? Is it chromium that fluoresces?

I LOVE all the fluoro pics!!!

Is this flour? link to Multicolour It looks like its glowing. Perhaps its because its included?

OK here is my plan for Saturday: my DH is flying in from Europe, by that time fluorescent black light pen should arrive, too. In the evening, I'll turn off all the lights, line up all my stones, have him hold the light, and position the camera. I hope we'll capture the fluorescence! I plan to post pictures on Sunday.

A really interesting thread and some cool photos everyone!

I don''t think MC.com photographs it''s stones under UV-fluorescent light. I''ve seen some pink sapphires with that base color.

OMG, I’m enjoying all these fluorescent eye candy! I’m so jealous that so many of you are able to do it so beautifully.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo! Don''t turn off all the lights. If you do that, you''ll have trouble capturing the fluor unless you really know what you''re doing because the photo will come out too dark and too blue from the UV.

Have a side lamp or something on so that the room has some light and not in total darkness. Then nearby set up your gems, UV pen and take the photos using the macro and either the auto white balance OR fluorescent light setting on your camera.

I was looking back through your old posts. I was trying to find a reference to the item you posted on the rose gold thread someone has about their pink sapphire.
What is the last item you posted? It appears to be a brooch? Is it an antique?
