Ha, DF, I *Knew* there was something similar about you by the albums you listed. How's this for nostalgia (disclaimer: These two are not necessarily my favorites nor do I think the qualify for the "best" but they make for great memories all the same):Date: 1/15/2005 1:10:17 AM

Tower of Power
Stevie Wonder(ful)
Dan Fogelberg
Woo hoo, talk about nostalgia. Wow Garry, you''re old.Storm, I always knew you were a WILD THING.
Now I mostly listen to Christian CDs. Love the P&W collections but I also still listen to a good bit of secular music from my older collection (mostly 70s/80s).
edited: spelling stinks tonight.
It was Jonathon Richman with the Modern Lovers, wasn't it? I've heard some songs on compilations but haven't listened to an entire album. I've a friend who's really into power pop and I'll ask to borrow some Modern Lovers. Thanks!Date: 1/15/2005 2:10:34 AM

Camellia, if you like both the Velvet Underground and the Sex Pistols, you may be interested in Modern Lovers Live by the Modern Lovers. The Modern Lovers were the bridge between the two groups.
The album has an interesting dynamic if you know its backstory. The first Modern Lovers album (produced by John Cale, by the way) was recorded in 1971 and finally released in 1975 just as punk was being born. This first album influenced the Sex Pistols and many other punk bands of the day, garnering some airplay in Britain along the way, and so the Modern Lovers were booked for a tour of England.
What British punk fans didn't know, however, was that by this time, the Modern Lovers had completely changed direction and were recording children's music. Modern Lovers Live was recorded during this tour. Green mohawked punks in the audience can be heard screaming requests for the old songs while they are treated to one more chorus of 'Ice Cream Man'. Along with the Dylan live recording I mentioned, this is one of the strangest live albums ever.
