I love half moons, your combination is really beautiful and elegant. Can't wait to see the finished product.

It's going to be so pretty! Can't wait to see it when it's done!

That's a beautiful shade of blue! I love the cut and the half moon sapphires-- really looking forward to seeing Michael's pictures :appl:

Sorry if somebody already asked this, or if you mentioned it yourself... what are the measurements of the stones and what ring size do you wear?

Congrats on your project, pink tower!

Thank you, Baby Nurse!
The blue stone is 1.83.

I have not asked Michael about the size of the white ones, but I will send him an email and report back. It was nice having them custom cut, because he had the freedom to proportion them correctly to the stone.

I have the measurements now. The blue sapphire is 7.24 x 6.88 x 4.24 deep.
The half moons are slightly under 5mm by slightly over 3mm.
I wear a size 6, but I am one of those who prefers the look of a loose fit. Often I will put a size 5.5 band in front for safety, especially in winter.

Thanks for the detail, PT! Those are great sizes and I really can't wait to see pictures of the completed ring!

This must be so exciting, especially since you had a bit of a wait for the project.

I love that blue-- it reminds me of the sky! (I want one just like it ;)) )

What a fun project! I really like your stones, especially the sapphire!

The ring arrived yesterday and I cannot stop staring at it. It ended up looking exactly as I wanted, which was not easy, because I did not know how to envision a ring like this. There are no photos available of the look, so I commend Michael for having to only listen once to a vague idea I had and then come up with the ring from my ramblings.

He took some beautiful photos of the ring. I will post a few of them here. There is no purple in the ring; Michael said the florescent lighting caused the color distortion.

The center stone is 1.83 carats. I would describe the color as Marine Blue, sort of like pretty ocean water.
The sides were cut by Michael to fit the center stone. I believe he said the weight is .37, and they were cut from one piece. They are white sapphire, and they are not heated.

Okay, enough explanation--here are some photos, which is what we all want to see, right? Enjoy!

One thing I forgot to mention about the half moons:
I wanted the design to protect the half moons from chipping as much as possible along the edges. I teach six year olds, and I want to wear the ring to work and enjoy it. What good would it be to have to leave the ring at home in its box? So, the half moons were set sort of in a semi-bezel on the outer edge. Also, he designed an interesting cut for them on the corners. If you scroll back up to the view of them before setting, it is more apparent. The outer corner is sort of clipped. This is hidden by the prong once set, but it was designed this way to protect the corners.

Thanks, all of you. TL, it is "stunning" in terms of color and workmanship. But, it is not grandiose; it is very cheerful and wearable.
SS, you are exactly right. It IS a happy color!!!

Austen Nut, Here is a handshot, just because you asked. I just snapped it with my Blackberry, but it will give you an idea. I'm not sure of the size right now, but the eternity band with it is size 5.5, for perspective.

It's beautiful and I love that it's all Sapphire! I'm definately saving in my "ideas" folder. I'm hoping for a three stone sapphire engagement ring, but I keep flip flopping on shape combinations. This one is to die for!
