this weekend my BM''s and i went on a weekend excursion to find the perfect BM dress. Here''s the winning dress. it looked fab on all of the girls.

i have a couple of questions about it though. mainly the color. my original color scheme was to have champage (a fall champage not a spring one if that makes any sense) colored BM dresses. they will carry dark red/merlot colored peonies. and as a surprise i was going to give them chocolate brown pashmina''s.

well, turns out the perfect dress doesn''t come in the perfect color. in the next few posts, i''ll attach pictures to show what i mean.

i value all of your opinions and any help you can give will be much appreciated. Thanks!

These are the original dress fabric colors.

i think the sand may be too light and wash the girls out.

There''s a goldleaf color that looks like it may be a chocolate color. if we are too unsure about the light color,
then we may have a backup plan? it does seem like it may do that freaky irridescent color thing (swith from one color to another depending on the angle of view)- which i may hate.

they are putting in a request for a fabric change. if it''s possible, here are the gorgette fabric colors.

in the store we were looking at the cashmere and taupe. but if we can''t decide, then there''s a chocolate brown color. the cashmere looked a shade darker than the sand of the orignal tafetta fabric. online it looks darker.

for reference, here is a pic of my dress.

at first i really wanted the tea-length BM dresses. this dress we found can be shortened to that length. but now that the girls have liked the dress as it is long i think they are really hoping to wear it long. what do you all think? short or long??

oh- and it's an afternoon fall wedding, if this helps.

i know the mocha color would be the safe choice. the sample dress was in black and it looked smashing! i know it would look equally great in another darker color such as chocolate brown. but, that throws off getting chocolate pashminas. also, i was thinking of having chocolate table linens. if that''s the case, i think it may be chocolate overload...

I would not choose the goldleaf - that''s looks olive green to me.

Sand looks about the color my wedding dress is - since I don''t like stark white against my skin - so it may be too close to bridal wear.

For the sub fabrics - definitely cashmere! The taupe color looks infused with too much rosiness to go the chocolate route.

Good Luck!

Oh, and I also think the long length dress for the BMs

oops. double post!

ok thanks!

here''s an example of the goldleaf on a different dress.
i am thinking in may be brown in one angle and gold in another. which i wouldn''t want.

this is close to the color combination i am going for (but a little less yellow in the dresses).
and this is the exact color flowers i am trying to get.

I really like the cashmere color, but I think the mocha would look great. So, my vote would probably be for mocha.

Jcrow!
First- I love your dress! You have the perfect kind of figure for a strapless gown! I am so jealous!

As for the bridesmaid dresses, I am so sorry the perfect color wasn''t available. The dress itself is great! I love the tulle underneath and I love it long. I like the Cashmere Color because it is closest to what you want. I like the mocha too, but do you think it might be a lot of dark going on with the deepness of the peonies?

Let us know what you decide and good luck!

I''d go with cashmere or mocha... Can you see the colours in person?

yes anchor 31, we did get to see all of the colors in person. then, taupe was the color of choice, though it was so hard to tell by those little bitty swatch samples. that said though, the cashmere looks so different on the web than it did in person. it was a tad darker than the sand and i was scared it maybe to light. the taupe did have a purple undertone. don''t know if that''s good or bad.

ah, thanks!!

the tulle is really not visible- in fact i didn''t even notice it until i found this pic on the web. it adds a bit of fullness to the skirt.

yes- i thought about the dark and dark flowers too. plus, the chocolate dresses creates another problem of what color pashmina to get them. i couldn''t do chocolate with a chocolate dress. i don''t want to go red because it''s really not a main color in my scheme. (i wanted it mainly to be champanes and mochas and chocolates-and since flowers don''t really come in those colors, i threw in the deep deep red) and i can''t do ivory because my dress is white. and i don''t think white pashminas either because that''s too stark against the chocolate....

First off, what pretty dresses! (yours & the BM''s)
My first choice would be the dress in cashmere, with a mocha-colored pashmina.
I also think that the dreses in mocha would look great with a cream-colored pashmina. I wouldn''t worry that it would compete with the chocolate table linens. There will be an assortment of items on the table (plates, glasses, centerpieces, etc...), so you''ll only really see a hint of chocolate in the end.

What about wine or bordeaux or mocha and then switching the flowers to cream combo?
I really like the idea of mocha (with cream pashminas) too - But I worry about dark dresses and dark flowers, perhaps this isn't a valid concern. (?)

Does anyone have pictures of brown/mocha bridesmaids dresses and deep wine/burgundy flowers?

The cashmere looks nice too. Perhaps it's worth another look?

The dress is gorgeous! Lazaro bridesmaids? If it's not too indiscreet a question, how much per dress?

Scintillating...

Scintillating...

i''ve always been wierd about white dress and cream flowers-even if i wouldn''t be holding them. i know, i''m picky.

You could carry dark ones and the b-maids could carry light ones?

Oh* I edited my previous response.

Scintillating...

jim hjelm dress. about $250 before discounts.

scint- a girl i know did chocolate dresses with black magic roses (deep red). i didn''t attend because it was before i knew her. but-i will ask if she has any pics that i can see.

any other suggestions, opinions or ideas?

I like the Cashmere color too. I love the tulle at the bottom...it gives it such a fun little edge.

As for short or long, I always vote short. Long BM dresses may look pretty, but they can very rarely be worn again and I don't think that's very fair. If a friend of mine is paying $100+ for a dress, I'd be SURE to let her choose one she could wear again. It sounds as though your BMs like the fact that it's long, though, so I'd go with whatever they want.

plus there''s always the turn it short after option.

i am not too worried about the price and if they''ll wear it again. we all went together shopping and each of them loved this gown. this is the one **they** choose.

i wanted short, but i am thinking they are leaning towards long. they said that''s what they would be most comfortable in.

Oh, I know. My whole point was that I feel its best to do whatever the bridesmaids want, since they''re coming up with the $$$. Plus, that dress is really cute and would look great short or long.

oh, ok

Whew! I feel overwhelmed about the color choices.. and they''re not my bridesmaids! I see how you feel.

My thought was actually about the dress length; I think since it is a fall wedding the long gowns would look more seasonally appropriate. I know it may not be cold, but especially with such a rich and warm color scheme I think long is definitely the way to go... short might be more for a green and pink spring wedding or something, yanno?

Your dress stunning! I love love love love all the the lace/beeded/ect work that you have on the top.

What about the Maize? That looks close to the champaign color you were going for. I also absolutely love the mocha.
My BM color is also champaign and I am currently looking for BM dresses. I like the Maize color for that look, if they can give you that color. The only concern I would have is whether it would look too yellowy.

As far as the dress lengt, I would not go 3/4 length b/c it will crop your girls and make them look shorter. I was considering tea lenght myself but then after having all the girls try on dresses that I realized that we would have to just go full lenght b/c the tea length shortened the girls and made it look more casual and less eligant/dramatic. You have dramatic dress and I thing the fuller skirtsare best to go with it.

AntiguaBride- thanks for your thoughts. color is a bit overwhelming, esp. with a color like champage that has so many versions. they are going to send me swatches of the fabric colors so that i can see them. i am very happy about that.

Kaleidoscopic - thanks for the compliments! i sure took me forever to pick a darn gown! i was so indecisive!! but i chose and can''t look back!
i am worried that the maize is yellow as well. i remember thinking that when i saw the swatch in person. all of the girls are way taller than me. i am 5 foot. so i thought if anyone, they could pull of a shorter legth. they are all the rage right now, but i agree the long have that elegant wedding look. i am having an afternoon wedding so that''s why i thought it may be appropriate to go a shorter length. sometimes in pics i find when all the girls have long dresses it can look like a puddle of fabric on the floor. but that''s ok. i think long it is! have you picked BM dresses yet??

update on BM dresses...

they can do a fabric change but only to a satin-faced tafetta (which i like a whole lot better than gorgette). here are the swatches
