...and it's green! It's 1.1 ct and 6.3mm

It's Gary's light green Mali garnet. I've rarely come across Mali that's primarily green so I'm excited!
He sent me some extra photos and described the color as "light green with very little yellow" and has some fluro under UV similar to grossular garnet but not as intense.

He said the color was actually more saturated than the photos show, but the stone is so bright that it is difficult to photograph.

Here's one of the additional photos he sent.

that''s beautiful. barry''s awesome, isn''t he? any ideas for settings?

i love your malaya garnet ring. the LOGR setting- did you have them custom make it, or did you get it through one of their ebay auctions?

Barry IS awesome. Although this time I went with Gary, hehe.

My LOGR for my malaya was through their Buy it Now option, I made an offer at 15% off and they accepted, free sizing and free change to 14k rose gold instead of white. My stone was already 7.5mm so I didn''t need customization there. Hope that helps!

hahahha whoops, thought you said Barry. who is gary?

thanks for the LOGR info. i didn''t see your setting on their site. at least, it''s not on there currently.

so any ideas for setting for your pretty, new stone? ;-)

Gary of Finewater Gems. (Finewatergems.com)

No ideas how to set it yet. I want to see it in person first.
Jstar recently had a light green prasolite set in green gold which I thought looked fantastic, so I might go with JKT and a green gold halo.

Funds are a little tight now, so I might not set it for awhile. Unless I decide to sell some other things! Haha.

I'm open to suggestion!

MTG, gorgeous. I think it looks like a light green diamond in those pictures. I''m looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Thanks Indy!

Mali is a mix of grossular and andradite, and andradite is known to have more dispersion than diamond. So I would be delighted if it looked like a green diamond in person!

Very pretty. I love the color.

What a beautiful color! I''m a little envious :)

Beautiful, it has color and sparkle. What more could you ask for?

Between the cutting and the high dispersion of Mali, and the fact it''s almost colorless, it is very diamond like to me. I would probably set it like one since most people wouldn''t know the difference.

I bet sparkles like mad in person.

i love mali''s. they sparkle like crazy. congrats!

I don''t think it''s as colorless as the photos show, I think it''s just so bright that Gary had a hard time showing the color.

Still...I bet I can pass it off as a green diamond

Thanks MZ! This will be my first Mali garnet.
After this I will have 2 malayas, a set of chrome garnets, a rhodolite, a pyrope, a tsavorite, a spess, and a mali.

..I may have a small garnet addiction...

Oh maybe, I have seen diamonds that color

Hehe, I'll ask for ideas for "diamond" settings then when I get it!

Oh, and Gary is sending me a stone holder ring thingy too so I can "model" my gems better :)

Be careful with those stone holders, they chip gems and if you don''t use them properly, the gem can pop out and fly across the room.

Thanks for the heads up TL!

Here''s the pic Gary had on their website. Looks kinda green diamondish to me.. :) These lighter super dispersive gems are tough to photograph since they''re so bright.

Gorgeous stone MTG! quick question - I saw that you''ve gotten prasioliye before. I adore the color of prasiolite but didn''t know where to procure any that was well cut. Do you mind me asking where you get yours?

I had a bunch of windows opened and was reading Rocky Talky. I swear .. I thought it was a diamond when I saw the picture. Beautiful!

I''ve actually never bought prasolite because it''s treated in order to make it green, even though I do like the color. I know Jstar has a beautiful prasolite asscher which she bought from Peter Torraca.

Haha, I wonder if it''s a good or bad thing for a colored stone to be confused for a diamond?

Anyways, Gary swears it''s not colorless so I''m guessing it won''t resemble a white diamond as much in person. It might still do a good impression of a green diamond, or maybe a poor man''s demantoid. I guess we''ll see, I''ve never owned a precision cut Mali so I''m just guessing.

I would love to see your shots!

Hopefully I''ll get it by Wed!

That is super pretty. I like minty diamonds- and minty diamond-like stones.

It can certainly pass off as a green diamond in your picture because of the light green colour and super sparkliness. I understand how difficult it can be to photograph for colour because the sparkliness gets in the way because I experienced this myself with my chrysoberyl.

Oooo, any pics of your chrysoberyl?

I''m waiting for PS2 to be up first so I don''t have to post pictures twice.
