Does anyone know if new posts can be attached to a Platinum basket setting? The posts always seemed flimsy to me. Should I ask a jeweler to add new posts or get a whole new set of settings made. I don’t think I would do Platinum again. It’s too soft..What metal would you use? Thanks

I’ve had the posts on my diamond studs changed to switch the backing to a la pousette. So, I would think you’d be able to have this replaced. My posts are platinum. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

Thank you @MamaBear I was thinking of changing them to regular push backs. They’re a little over 1.5 carats each so they‘re a little heavy. I’m worried I’ll lose one. I don’t know which ones I have..La Pousette or Guardian. Do your posts seem sturdy? Mine always felt thin and the little notch at the bottom would bend a little. That’s what weakened it.

Mine feel very sturdy. I,too, would worry if I felt they were thin. You won’t wear them as often if your are worried about losing one. I have two pair of studs, appx .6ctw and .8ctw, so smaller than yours but I decided I felt better with the secure backing

My mom has la pousette backs in platinum, and her posts are much thicker, with 2 bigger notches in them. Yours look a little thin, imho. Id ask to look at different posts before i make any move to have them redone. :)

Our experience.....screw-on posts/backs......they're never as good as a heavy-duty friction back.
Platinum and gold are simply not well suited for threading. That's why screws are made of iron or steel ( or whatever the heck they make them out of)...so even if the post/back was gold, it is too soft....
And it explains how/why the post broke.
You should be able to have a competent jeweler add new posts/backs without replacing the entire settings....
I hope this helps!!

Thank you @meesmom I just called a local jeweler that I know is trust worthy..They said the posts come in different sizes. I’ll get a nice thick post. If I knew I would have had the thicker ones. I didn’t get a choice when I purchased them.

Thank you! Do you think I should get a friction back post In platinum? The studs are platinum now. This is one of those instances where good old sturdy 14k gold works! The diamonds are expensive so I wanted the platinum.

Hi Joanne,
I'd go with platinum.....

Thats great news!! I hope you find the perfect posts. I've been considering changing my posts as well, I just cant decide what I want to do....

Yes, platinum! I'm sorry the back broke but thank goodness the studs are intact and safe and you didn't lose one. Gorgeous studs but you already know I drool over your studs. :kiss2:
FWIW I like regular friction backs.

Hmmmm...I should have done a poll but I don’t know how. I do like the friction backs better...but I think the La Pousette posts are safer..I don’t know..

Now you are in my boat, lol!! Its so hard to choose...
At your size, I personally would stick to la Pousette, with large disc backings to hold them upright. :)

I also vote for platinum but since you said they were a bit heavy, would you consider 14k white gold to make them a bit lighter?

I use plastic disks from Amazon! They are wonderful!

Thank you @daisygrl They are already platinum so I’ll just keep the baskets. I use plastic disks before putting in the backs. It keeps them straight.

I have Protektor posts in platinum for my studs. They feel sturdy and have two notches at the bottom for a little extra security.

I would never go back to screwbacks. I previously had them in platinum, and one of them unscrewed itself while I was running. I had just tightened it the day before. I lost that earring and had to replace it.

I have had platinum studs for my current and last couple of pairs with no issues at all. I use regular backs.

Glad @Rockdiamond came and gave you good professional advice!

Good to know, maybe I'll get some...my 1 ctw.'s dont droop much, but theres always room for improvement!;)2

@diamondseeker2006 I once lost one of my older studs from getting caught in my scarf while I was out shopping. I retraced my steps for two days trying to find it. On the second day I was about to give up when my mom noticed something shiny under a clothes rack. It had been through the floor buffer that had been used the night before. The setting was mangled but the diamond was so clean and sparkling! Haha Ever since then I’m afraid to wear scarves with my studs in the winter. I wonder if I had the La Pousette backs on the back maybe they would have caught them. They have push backs...but because they’re smaller they stay up without a problem.

@meesmom I think they also have a layer of security because they fit snugly over the post.

That’s awful @rungirl!

Oh no....I have screws, and this is my issue and why i want to change my posts. I buy those little silicone doodads that are mostly used when wearing fishhook earrings, and jam one on the back of the post after i screw the back on. I hate it, but i dont have much choice until i change them.

Edit: hey, while i was posting here, i think i made it to "brilliant rock"!!! :appl:Yay me!!!

Mine are 14K WG normal push/butterfly backs, and I have had them for years without any issues.

DK :))
