Buyer Beware... If you're non-American, think twice before purchasing from the US

I, as an American in turn, appreciate the candor of @Daisys and Diamonds.
It sounds like a reaction and response to action.

Actions have consequences.

The perspective opinions may differ here, but they are equally as valid.

I think when opinions start to sound more like bashing to me, I find it exceeds the good discourse that this thread has mainly produced. It’s DISRESPECTFUl.

As well as, trying to tell the US what it can and cant do. That’s the DISGUSTING part. We are a sovereign nation and not controlled by other countries. If you don’t like it, too bad.

I’ll go on my American way and put my vote that benefits the US and give a damn about being told how to live and conduct business by another country.

Thank you! We appreciate this! Thank you for the solidarity!

The general tone that we have felt in this thread is that our countries have taken advantage of the US and deserve this. And we could have just "negotiate" or somehow it is our fault and there is some justification for this.

I know most PS'ers are from the US so it makes the minority here feel like we can't have feelings or opinions and if we did it means we are spewing hate. Just to clarify that we don't hate the US but we also don't agree with what's happening.

It hurts, I understand. I'm an American and it hurts me, too.

The operative word for me is perspective.

I suppose you could say it engenders the same as saying the 'You(insert one of many countries great and small) are ripping us off', but don't retaliate!

Strong actions have strong reactions. The world is shifting in consequence.
We are but a few small observers, seeing this play out.

but this will eventually pass and we will pick up the pieces,
but this is such bad form how allies and long standing friends are being treated right now

Is there a “puke” button on here? Really, talk about victimization-thinking! Yes, I'm calling out the hate-spewing as it is. Calling the kettle black.

There is nothing wrong with the US trying to find ways to be economically more successful. To care for itself. If you don’t like it, too bad.

The line gets crossed for me as an American when people think they can tell the US how to act and what they should do, as if we are the world’s rescuer and under your dominion. We are not and we make our own choices, reflected by the will of the people.

@Daisysandiamonds
This really sounds like USA-bashing and it’s shameful. You are offering Nothing productive but spewing hate. I had thought better of you and more highly.

i would be one of the most pro American people anywhere on the ineternet , people who know me know that
it pains me greatly to feel like this
i will never hate Americans as a people, i dont even judge them for how they vote

but what is happening right now is effecting the rest of us, the US govt is being very selfish
i have never liked any form of isolatin policies and the US has a history of it

What is happening right now is not the will of the people I can assure you. And it was not hateful what Daisy said. What many in this thread are saying is that going the isolation route does not benefit our economy nor the global economy, and that certain leaders are acting as if the US is a victim and has been taken advantage of. That rhetoric is so far from the truth. Those same leaders are bashing Europe and Canada. It was a completely unprovoked attack, and so I am not surprised by nor do I blame someone outside the US for criticizing what is happening.

yes, there is nothing wrong with the US trying to make itself economically more successful, we want the US to be prosperouse for the sake of its citizens, but not by crippling the rest of us

i am a supporter of free trade, there is pain in free trade but you have to work out how to do things better and smarter, not use protectionism
because long term that is not economiclay substainable , we used to have a very regulated everything here when i was growing up, we went through the pain

please excuse my spelling i have vertigo from covid and its really hard to type

and its ok for the US to tell the rest of us how to act ?
America just make threats towards Greenland
and Canada -your nearest neighbour and best friend

its ok if you know longer what to be the world's policeman, but dont turf out all alliances and friends now because we all need each other and China will fill that gap

but honestly have you heard the lies being spewed about the rest of us ?
there are so many untruths, its like they just make it up
it might be different if some of it was based on fact, but he himself said this morning he is running on instint

we are also making our own choices, reflected by the will of our people
we are just going to be doing trade elsewhere till situations change or we will all go broke
America isnt the only shop on Main street

i think i should step away from this thread, i really most genuingly love America and her people and i dont want to fall out with any of you
i have never personally met a bad American, you are lovely people and i will always care and worry about you
i have defended America and done it loudly for many years over some very big and controversial issues
but i just cannot on this

@Daisys and Diamonds I should step away also. Let's hold hands and move to another thread =)2

We will never see eye to eye and I can’t stand either to listen to foreigner’s plans for this country and what we should or shouldn’t do.

It’s just like a nosey neighbor peeping into your window and telling you how to raise your children or cook your dinner. Mind your business.

I think people miss the bigger picture about why tariffs are imposed. America is not in a good economic position, and we are trying to fix it. Especially as a lot of the world wants more from it: expecting us to be everyone’s sugar-daddy and protector.

America needs to take care of itself first. Sorry, if you don’t like that.

I completely agree but for opposite reasons. I feel that our so-called “allies” are not allies and it saddens me. It’s too bad people don’t understand why we’d want to take care of our own interests and understand that. :(

I'm sorry to hear you have vertigo, Daisy. It plagues me from time to time and it is miserable. Recover soon.

Much of what you hear about this situation is hyperbole and it's difficult to see the actual purpose of these actions without prejudice. Please give this situation time to be processed and wait to see how this will affect your country. It may affect your citizens but maybe the affect will be negligible. There is an effort being made to make this fair for America and the other countries with whom they are speaking. This was reiterated today, that there is no intention to harm any country and that the world is better off when we ALL are treated fairly.

Patience please and wait to see what evolves. Don't waste your energy hating, it is such a futile feeling and you have enough on your plate at this time.

As an aside, I've always enjoyed your posts.

Believe me, I’m just as shocked as you are. Feeling the same way over here!

Sorry but “sugar daddy”?! I don’t think so. And countries can mind their business?! When they are being told they are going to be the 51st state? Or part of a takeover? That makes it their business. Effing up the world economy makes it their business. Smdh

Have fun shaking your damn head but I think so.

Love ya Daisy! Don’t let a few posters here effect your opinions, or shame you. Sorry about your Covid and vertigo.

It seems to me that the recent comments are focused on two key issues which are not mutually exclusive.

First, I don’t think anyone denies the US’s sovereignty and right to make decisions in its own interest.

Second, that recent decision, and in particular the manner in which it has been executed, has already had a highly destabilising effect on the economies of its foreign trading partners and their citizens.

Not fair of you @Tigerlilyrosepetal, @DaisyandDiamonds is only voicing her opinion and not elevating the temperature of this in comparison to what you just accused her of doing and how you admonish other views not in alignment with yours. I live in the USA (I have dual citizenship - Canadian and US) and I am totally dumbfounded with what is happening within our own country, let alone what we are doing to affect the world we all live in. I am not proud of being an American right now.

i promise i have never hated America, my family have always been pro-American
i cant say more because its political but people who are right leaning in NZ aret always pro American (and also pro free trade)
you are right, our economy may get off better than some others, but all this upheaval is causing so much uncertinty all over the world

And yet your country has no hesitation in telling everyone else how to run their lives LOL.

I’ve travelled to the USA close to 100 times since 1992 and have a family member married to an American. Personally I’m watching with a bowl of popcorn as your country implodes on itself. I’m waiting for the time that people come to their senses and realise that your powers in charge are not doing this to assist YOU as a normal everyday Joe, they are doing this to increase their wealth.

Thanks for sharing your personal animosity towards the US, with your bowl of popcorn., hoping bitterly that we implode. The jealousy is real. And dangerous, but noted.

As for the powers in charge doing this, I.e. tariffs to increase their wealth-that’s exactly the point. We are trying to make America stronger.

And @HGar-keep eating that popcorn as you watch America become an even stronger and more economically secure nation. I’ll even donate a few bags, as you’ll be eating it for a long time before America implodes.

@finerthings. Completely fair of me. It’s a discussion board where we share our ideas and opinions. I voiced my feelings. And please don’t try and “mother” me about how I should do so.

Yes I read what she wrote and was disappointed.. But unfortunately not shocked. Tiger I am sorry everyone is trying to beat you up and know I do not share their sentiments. You have every right to feel the way you do and I share some of your feelings too

@Daisys and Diamonds, Nicky, you know I am very fond of you and do not blame you for feeling the way you do. We are all entitled to our feelings. And while they may or may not be fact that doesn't matter when it comes to how we are feeling. And I know you are pro USA and Americans. We are not our government just like every other single country is not their government.

I am sorry you are dealing with Covid and the many adverse effects that come with it and sending you bucketloads of healing vibes

Agreed. None of us know anything for sure. All we can say is this is the current administration's MO and they enjoy the chaos and use it to their advantage. We have to see how this plays out and I don't believe any of us knows anything for sure. I do know it will be a volatile next few months at least and we just have to hold on during the rocky ride

In the meantime this is for everyone who needs some love

@missy, you are very sweet and kind. The world needs more of you.

I realize that my opinions aren’t popular on here and still felt the need to speak up. I know many more people think like me and I’d consider myself a moderate, actually.

It’s too bad that there is so much hostility directed at the US. But I’d rather know who my friends and enemies are clearly, so I have appreciated hearing people’s perspectives here.

Thank you Tiger, very kind of you. You are brave to speak out when clearly we are in the minority here. You are so right about the fact there are more people who think like us and not speaking up. I am a moderate too and have never been a registered democrat or republican but always independent because I do not identify with either (extreme) party. There are many moderates like us who won't speak out here because the vitriol is real and they dont want to subject themselves to it. I cannot blame them for feeling that way.
I never wanted to take this role on but like you feel the need not to remain silent when I see so much wrong with the world. October 7th was my wake up call. It would be so much easier to remain silent.

There is so much more I wish to say but due to the rules here I cannot. I will say I have no hate towards any PSer because I truly believe we all have every right to feel the way we do and there are many sides to each story. And I think most of us want the same thing in life. Peace, prosperity, love and good health. Most of us are decent humans despite the fact we do not see eye to eye. And despite the fact strong words have been written I know we are (mostly) on the same side. Just disagree how to get there

Update:

"The European Union will delay its retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports for 90 days. But the accelerating trade war between China and the United States showed no signs of abating."

@missy @Tigerlilyrosepetal nobody was “beating her up” and that’s kind of the point. She went from 0-100 on Daisy; if anything she was the aggressor. Being critical of what’s happening in the US is not the same as being a hate monger or anti-American and that’s what she is accusing Daisy and others of.

I saw the news of the pause which is welcome yet more evidence of what complete chaos we are in rn. :wall:
