Wow, Pupp!!! When I said "wouldn't a quick, soon labor be nice?!" in my last post, I had no clue you were already in labor!! hehehehe! I love it!! Welcome baby Nolan!! I can't wait to see pics of your little man!!!! :appl:  :appl:

HH, that sounds very scary! My thought is that it was probably a hypoglycemic episode, but I don't think it means you're developing diabetes, and I don't think they need to repeat your GD test (but definitely bring this up with your Dr and see what he/she says). RE: what you have read about hypoglycemia being related to diabetes, here's the deal: when hypoglycemic episodes occur in diabetics, it's almost always due to too much insulin in combination with not enough food (for example, a diabetic person has a stomach bug and isn't eating much at all that day due to discomfort, but continues to give him/herself their full doses of insulin, resulting in a drop in blood sugar). Diabetics who DON'T take insulin are way more likely to have blood sugars that are too high than they are to have blood sugars that are too low. So in your case, as a woman who passed her GD test and is not taking insulin, I feel confident saying that what you had was a pregnancy-related hypoglycemic episode, which is very common. Best way to treat/prevent these (as you already know) is frequent small meals/snacks to keep your blood sugar steady. I have trouble with hypoglycemia too, and I've found that making sure all of my snacks include some healthy carbs (fruit, whole grains) and a good bit of PROTEIN (most important) keeps my blood sugar the steadiest. I have pretty much stopped eating big meals, I just eat balanced small meals/snacks about 6 or 7 times a day, and I have felt SO much better doing this.

I hope you feel better...sorry it was such bad timing! No one wants to pass out on the interstate!!

Thanks HOU! I know it's not really kosher to give med advice to non-patients, so I really appreciate you giving me your thoughts on the subject. I guess I never realized how important that bagel and cream cheese was every morning!

No problem!! :) It's no biggie, but I should also post this disclaimer of sorts: please do call your doctor and tell them about what happened (if you haven't already) - they may want to see you sooner than your next appt just to check all is well . :)

Lanie- I was at Methodist, so right next door!

China, I was planning on delivering at St. Luke's, but just yesterday, one of my attendings told me that she had delivered both of her boys at Methodist and loved it. I'm pretty sure my (and Lanie's!) OB delivers at Methodist, so was just wondering if you were happy with your choice!! I think if things were iffy (i.e. I was delivering a premie or there was some other concern re: the baby) I would probably still go to St. Luke's because it's that much closer to the TCH NICU, but if everything was going smoothly, I might rather opt for Methodist based on what I heard from my attending. Any personal likes/dislikes?? Oh, and thanks for the heads up on A Woman's Work - I went in there the other day, and it's a pretty cute place! I'll definitely check out their BF classes!!

congrats pupp!!! welcome baby! four hours wow.

HH...i had something similar. i had LBP before preg, and if i didn't eat consistently, i'd get dizzy and/or feel like that clammy sweaty feeling from low blood sugar at times. i just would try to make sure i ate consistently and didn't skip a meal. it only happened a few times as the first time freaked me out so i made a concerted effort from that point on.

Congrats Pupp!!!!

We told our parents and siblings yesterday!

:appl: :appl: :appl: Congrats, Pupp!!! Welcome baby Nolan!! I'm sure he's adorable!!

Lanie - You have such a cute bump there!!

LV - I didn't feel movement 'for sure' til 18w4d. I'm 19w6d today, and have felt movement pretty much daily, but it's here and there, for about a minute or two at a time.

Noel - Lookin good, mama!

I'll try to post my 20week pic tomorrow, but I'm working 12's all weekend, so I may be late, or just wait til next week. I still don't have much of a bump, though. A couple people have told me I'm carrying like I'm having a boy, so we'll see what the verdict is Wednesday. I don't know how they can 'tell' anyway...

What do you guys think of this? It may not even be an issue, but... DH's brother is having a boy, and they've decided on the name Liam. DH and I both really like Leah for a girl's name (pronounced Lee-uh). DH's middle name is Lee, so it'd kinda be like naming her after him. DH and his bro are really close, and the kids will probably be pretty close, as far as cousins go... Do you think Liam and Leah are too similar? Liam will be about a month older...
I guess it really doesn't matter, in the grand scheme of things. And I may have a boy in there, so I may be worrying over nothing, but I just thought I'd throw it out to you ladies, to see what you think. Oh, and these would be MIL's first grandchildren, too.

Lynnie, I think Liam and Leah are totally fine! I  Leah, very pretty.

HH - I have a question for you lady! Do you feel like your crib is still low set even on the highest position? I am wondering if we assembled it incorrectly and if we should have put the metal brackets under rather than over.

17W

Pupp - Congrats to you!!! I can't wait to see little Nolan :appl: :appl:

LV - I've been thinking about movement lately too. I haven't felt anything yet either. I know it's just a matter of time, but come on LO. Maybe here in a few weeks.

Hou - Congrats on team pink!!

geri - Welcome! Cograts on the great scan.

tao - Yea for telling your family!

Allie, HH, noel, lanie, you ladies look great!!

Nothing new over here... just plugging along. My anatomy scan is scheduled for three weeks, on my birthday. When they were scheduling me they double checked that I was okay coming in on my birthday. Of course I am! Sounds like a great present to me!! We're struggling with boy names. We have some girls names that we love but not much for boys. That's why we're convinced this peanut is a boy. Boy names are so hard!

Allie, do you have the Graco Lauren? Ours is definitely lower than I thought it would be. DH put it together and I wasn't around when he did it so I don't know if he did something wrong or not. It's not too low, we can reach in without trouble, but yea, it's low. Let me know if you figure out what the deal is with it.

We have a Graco crib too. The little metal things do go up, not down. It seemed like it was low at first, but it's fine. DH tried flipping it over to put the metal things down but it doesn't support that way.

@HH We did get the Graco Lauren. It just seems so much lower than everyone else's cribs I was wondering if DH did something incorrectly.

@SS Yes we do have a Graco crib and my husband insisted on following the direction to a T so I am glad that I didn't make him try it the other way ;)

Hi All, I'm still in the hospital. Not feeling great but better! If everything looks good tomorrow, I might get to go home after being here for almsot week! Can't wait! I miss DS, DH, and my bed so much!

pupp, CONGRATS! Welcome Nolan! Holly cow, 4 hours of L&D! I can only hope my 2nd L&D is that short. I was 4.5 cm before I was in active labor and checked into the hopsital with my son but my L&D was MUCH longer. You are very lucky!

HOUMed, congrats on a girl! How exciting!

Hi everyone. Thanks for the welcome.

Houie - Congrats on team pink! How exciting. I can't believe you can find out so early. i have been told we have to wait till 20 weeks! I have no patience.

Noel - I can't believe you are half way there. Time flies!! Love the bump.

Lynnie - Pregnancy has treated me reasonably well. Have had a couple of scares along the way and a little tired and bloated but I've had no real morning sickness which I am extremely thankful about. Glad to hear you are doing well and love the name Leah.

Lanie - you are so tiny - you look great!

Kunzite - We think we will have a boy for the same reason! We have 3 or 4 girls names we are happy with but not one boy's name yet. Thankfully we'll have a few months after finding out the gender to decide!

And Houie - since you asked, here is a belly pick at 13 weeks. This was a morning shot before the daily bloat sets in!

IMG00019-20100801-0728.jpg

Good morning, friends! Thanks for all the congrats on team pink messages!! We are beyond thrilled to know.

Geri - what a cute teeny bump you have!! :appl: :appl: :appl: I'm so glad everything is going well for you, and that pregnancy has been relatively kind to you so far. So glad to have you along for this journey. I know, I can hardly believe we are able to find out the sex this early....if we would have had to pay extra for the Jack or Jill test, we would have just waited, but apparently since my OB refers so many patients to this place for their NT and 1st tri screening, they don't charge any extra for her patients! I'm feeling pretty righteous in an "I KNEW it" sort of way....hehe. Don't know why I thought it was a girl all along, but I definitely had a strong hunch from very early on. And DH is SO excited. He will be wrapped around her little finger in NO time.

Snlee - oh good, I'm so glad things are going well, and I hope you get to go home!! Still on bedrest, I assume? But at least you'll be in your own home, which will be so much nicer.

Kunzite, not long now till your big scan!! What an awesome b-day present! I had my 7w3d scan for this little one on my birthday, and seeing that good strong HB and a healthy growing bean was the BEST birthday present I"ll ever get.

Lynnie, I think Leah is a beautiful girls' name, and I think Liam/Leah would be fine for two cousins. Can't wait to hear how your big scan goes on Wednesday!! Are you having any inclinations yourself toward girl or boy?

Tao, how exciting!! I so loved sharing our good news with everyone.

SS, how's Miss Lily today?

And Pupp, hope you and Nolan are settling in nicely!! I'm still so jealous of your quick labor...would LOVE to have the same thing happen for me!! hehe!!

Cara - re: "pregnancy puppeteer" - LOL! I know exactly what you mean. This past week or so I've discovered that I feel SOOO much better if I eat something small and healthy exactly when my body tells me to, which happens to be about once every 1.5-2 hrs. Don't worry too much about weight gain - I figure as long as you're eating good healthy foods and feeling good, then your body is probably doing exactly what it needs to do to make a good healthy baby. No worries, I'm sure we'll all still be around to encourage one another in our postpartum weight loss efforts after this is over!! :)

Laila - thank you!! :) I have an anterior placenta too, so I've been wondering when I'll be able to feel my little girl. Just this morning I was laying in bed and felt the faintest fluttery feelings down low where I know she is, but I'm still not 100% convinced it wasn't gas, LOL. But maybe it was her?? I guess it will become more clear as she grows and her movements get bigger/stronger.

Fiery - thank you!! I'm excited to join the ranks of you girl mommas who came before me.

Lanie - I know, we have been talking about names all week!! It's funny, we had one for-sure boy name already picked out, and we've got several girl names, but I think we've got 2 current faves. :) Dr. B hasn't talked about classes yet...actually, she wasn't there for my 13w3d appt last week, and they forgot to call and tell me! LOL. I showed up, had my ultrasound, and went back to her area, and the nurse said "Did you get a phone call?....." and I said "noo..." Apparently there was an emergent delivery she had to go to. Anyway, I've been playing phone tag with her this week trying to set up a reschedule. So I don't even have an appt scheduled right now. I think I'll call and sort that out on Monday. Hopefully the classes won't fill up too quick!! I guess we need to start thinking about it though! I'm interested in checking out the classes at the other places that China mentioned, too. Sorry your nausea/puking is lingering a bit...that's no fun. But you look absolutely adorable!! What a perfect little bump!

LV – thank you love!! The Jack or Jill test was offered by the place I went to have my NT scan and 1st tri screening, NOT my doctor’s office. It’s called the Center for Medical Genetics. Re: feeling the baby, don’t worry. You’re still early to feel things! I know a lot of 2nd or 3rd time mommas start feeling the baby earlier since they know what they felt before, but I think it’s pretty typical that first time mommas don’t feel the baby (and realize that it’s the baby!) till 18-20 weeks. I’m sure everything is still going exactly as it should in your tummy. :)

Dcgator – aww, thanks for popping in to say congrats! :) I am still lurking on TTC and rooting so hard for you!! I can’t wait till the day I log in and see your good news. :)

Noel – I’m so excited to be on team pink with you!! :) You look fantastic, btw – that’s a perfect bump!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I think I’m finally entering the blissfulness of the 2nd tri! I haven’t taken a Zofran in a week now, and I’ve figured out how to eat so as to not feel bad from blood sugar swings during the day (involves LOTS of small healthy snacks which must have some protein involved). Plus, thanks to my saviour Miralax, got the constipation issue taken care of too. I missed taking a 13 week belly pic because I was out of town on a conference, but you guys should have seen my big constipation bloat belly. LOL. Now, in my 14 week pic, I swear I look smaller than I did a week ago! I feel sooooo much better….it had gotten really bad. Thanks, Zofran.

Today is my day off, and I think we’re gonna go to our local Bumbleride retailer to check out the Indie. I think I may have settled on it based on everything I’ve read here and around the internet. I’ll let you know how it goes!! :)

Here’s my 14 week pic, a bit late…One thing I'm not too keen on is that I've always had a bit of a pooch above my belly button, and I'm afraid my expanding belly is making it all the more obvious. LOL. I want a nice round bump, not a lumpy bump! LOL!!!

14 weeks B.JPG

HOU -- I can see the beginnings of the bump! It looks low, whatever that means, but you know it's a girl, so I guess it doesn't mean anything anyway! Everyone always comments on how high/low.That's funny about Bobo and the appointment. She must bank...she has so many patients. I didn't know she could deliver at Methodist either! That's pretty cool and I'll have to ask. Hopefully China will chime in. Have fun stroller shopping!

Geri -- you look so teeny! You must be thrilled this is the one!!!!!

Lynnie -- What a cute name! I think Leah/Liam combo is fine, and actually kind of cute! Can't wait to see what you are having! I have no guess bc you don't really have a bump to go by, but I think that's all so dependent on body type. I love how people are adamant one way or another, and I'm like, you have a 50/50 shot. You aren't some wise soothsayer if you happen to get it right!

snlee -- Hope you get to go home today! I can't imagine...I would be stir crazy and crazy homesick!

Have I mentioned I'm on "pelvic rest" from a low lying placenta, and I have been since 12 weeks????? Sorry if I complained about this on another post, but that's 8 weeks of Ladytown being closed. And that means nothing, NOTHING related to sex, including the big O, and it has been hard. HARD! We didn't do anything prior to the 12 weeks bc I was throwing up everywhere, so it feels like forever. I hope I get the go ahead at my appt Wed that my placenta grew upwards and the hubs and I can resume normal activity. ARGH! Sorry, it's just hard, especially on the weekends!

HOU, yeah, I would be on bedrest but not STRICT bedrest so that's good.

Thanks Lanie. I can so sympathize with you! Haven't had any action since 14 weeks. It's been 4 months! It'll be about 7 months total for us. UGH! Hope it's not nearly as long and you can resume normal activity soon!

Lanie, Boooooo for pelvic rest! I'll keep my fingers crossed that on Wednesday Dr. B puts the Ladytown "open for business" sign back out!! hehehe!

Snlee, I think *any* kind of bedrest is better at home, but even better that it's not strict! :) I hope you're home by now!!

hou - :appl: :appl: :appl: squeeeee! when i saw you the other day i thought maybe? but i wasn't sure and didn't want to say anything as i wasn't sure who knew. and :appl: :appl: :appl: on team pink and :appl: :appl: :appl: on being out of the danger trimester!!

so happy for you!

HouMed- So sorry, I missed your post a page or two back. You know, I haven't heard anything good or bad about St. Luke's. I liked Methodist just fine, but I don't really have anything to compare it to! I did ask a lot of people I knew, and most recommended Methodist. It is supposedly "nicer" facility-wise but it was just a hospital to me! I can say that most of the nurses were great. I did like that you labor, deliver and recover in one room, so I never had to move. I am not sure how it works at St. Luke's. I know a few ladies that delivered at Women's, and a few said they would switch to Methodist next time, but I don't know why. You probably have more knowledge of the hospitals than I do! But if you have any specific questions about Methodist and how they do things, let me know. I'll try to keep up with this thread, but you can always jump over the newborn thread and ask me over there. Is "Bobo" a nickname? My OB also delivered at both and she is crazy busy, every girl I meet that is preggo uses her, I can't imagine how she gets it all done. But "Bobo" is definitely not her name! Hope that helps.

h-town girls: i had dr. b also! lol. i think most of the residents and fellows go to her. other than two out of the many many MANY preggo residents and fellows i know (there is a baby boom going on around here!) only two don't go to her or some one in their group. the fact that the ob res's and pedi res's all hands down recommend them is a pretty good sales pitch IMO. afterall they's worked with them and seen them in action. i plan on being repeat business  so that's my review.

she delivers both at st. lukes and methodist. told me to choose. i chose st. lukes for the exact reason houmedgal stated -- even though my pregnancy was pretty much uncomplicated, i thought on the small chance something goes wrong, i wanted to be just that much closer to TCH for A's sake. the NICU is literally just down the corridor from L&D.

as for my st lukes experience, i liked it. there is a seperate L&D room, so you moved, which i didn't mind. the nurses are wonderful, the anesthesiologist was AWESOME (thank you!). the baby was in the room with you at all times. ummm, i believe based on my experience working at both hospitals that the rooms at st l's are smaller. methodist is def more cush overall i think. i chose my prob overly conservative choice over the cush, but honestly i don't know if there is much of a diff. HTH!

@SS Yes we do have a Graco crib and my husband insisted on following the direction to a T so I am glad that I didn't make him try it the other way ;)

Allie, ours is as low as yours is. I guess that's just how it is? Like I said, the height isn't a problem for us in terms of reaching in (and DH is a few inches shorter than I am) so we're cool with it. I trust that he put it together according to the directions and it holds my 12 lb cat pretty well so for now I'm confident that it won't collapse or anything ; )

I've officially reached the point in my pregnancy where I wake up with serious back/hip pain. I must have been up at least a dozen times last night flipping positions and going to the bathroom. I'm so tired today....

LOL ladies, if you REALLY want to know what pathetic is, that would be me. DH and I have not seen action since basically conception. We tried once during the first tri and it was super painful so we didn't get too far...

China and Ginger -- thanks for the info on the hospitals! I don't know what I'll end up deciding, I thought my ONLY choice was St. Luke's, so this is good to know. And Bobo isn't a nickname...that's the doctor's name! I believe she married a Turkish man (what my friend told me). I heart Bobo!

Now I feel like I'm left out, not having this Dr. Bobo! ;)) She sounds great. Though I do love my dr so I'll let that make me feel better! Personally girls, I would listen to Ginger as she's a dr. They say Methodist is more plush, but I don't know what makes it so plush, I didn't really find it so. Plus you really aren't in any condition to enjoy or notice the amenities. A hospital bed is a hospital bed. OTOH, Methodist can't be THAT far from TCH, right? Can you guys tour them both and then decide?

That's what I'm wondering...if we can tour them or not. Did your DH have somewhere somewhat comfy to sleep at Methodist?

HH -- that's really funny! Your poor hubs!

22+2

Hi pretty mamas... I've finally emerged from ICU month and will be around more (for a month, anyway). Time to catch up!!

Lanie- Enjoy your anatomy scan. It's so amazing how much they grow and move. We loved ours... And fingers crossed for coming off of pelvic rest hehe.

Hou- You're looking great! I've been ultra lazy about photos, lately. Meh. I'll be better starting this week! And YAY YAY YAY for team pink and a healthy little girl. That is sooo exciting! Must admit to being a little jealous of all of the tiny dresses you have coming up hehe, but would not trade our little boy of course.

Lynnie- I think Liam/Leah are fine. We are giving our little boy the same middle name as his cousin (James, grandfather's name, hubby's middle and my brother's middle) who will be two months older. I hope SIL does not mind, as we have always planned it as a middle name for above reasons. Doesn't seem like a big deal, but you know how people can get with names!!

Kunzite- Happy early birthday!! We saw our little boy's heart beating for the first time on my 29th bday and it was a wonderful gift. Really, what could be better??

Geri- Talk about itty bitty! What baby bump?? You look great, mommy!

snlee- Ugh sorry about all of the preterm scariness again. On the plus side, being around 30 weeks now is great. Even if the baby comes early, things are looking good for a healthy little one. Still, bake baby bake!!

puppmom- Congratulations on the smooth and FAST arrival of little Nolan. Cannot wait to hear all about it. Welcome baby Nolan!!!

Shiny- I don't think I got to comment earlier, but how terrifying with precious Lily being rushed off right after birth. I love your mamabear instinct, though. So sweet. I am so glad she is doing well and home with you and her big brother now.

Allie- First, love your green dress! Adorable. Second, you do not look like you are carrying twins in the least. People are ridiculous and need to keep their smart comments to themselves, really.

Blushing- Hooray for 3rd tri. Time flies (sometimes), doesn't it??

HH- Holy crap, 30 weeks for you... I seriously cannot believe how far along everyone is already.

noelwr- Hope you made it home safe and sound to your hubby! All of that travel plus pregnancy sounds exhausting. On the plus side, your belly is adorable!!

cara & HH re: weight gain- It's so hard not to obsess over, isn't it?? In general, it takes a lot of effort for me to keep weight off. It seems (not shockingly) that the ladies who are naturally thin don't put on much weight while preggo, while those who have a bit of a predilection to gain add in the crazy hormones and there is nothing you can do to stop it. I'm trying not to think about it too much and eat plenty of healthy foods for our growing little boy.

-------------------------------------

Can I say... yikes, ICU call and pregnancy do not belong in the same sentence. So glad it is over and we both survived the sleepless nights.

Hubby and I are having a lot of fun planning the nursery. Of course, it's really for US more so than the baby, but it allows us to plan for and bond with him. We picked up some space theme bedding from Dwell Studio (target), which we are really pleased with. Hubby is a little obsessed with space/NASA/astronomy so he is pretty psyched for the room.

Jumper is a stubborn little thing. When he gives a good kick, I can definitely feel him from the outside! However, he refuses to repeat this feat when his daddy has his hand on my belly.

Also hilarious, my annoying 5 AM alarm clock has been waking the baby! Really mommy, I was SLEEPING. He goes crazy when it wakes him up. Super funny! Hopefully he is going to be a good sleeper like his daddy.

In other exciting news, it looks likely that hubby and I have agreed on a name. Don't think we're quite ready to go public with it, though. Springing it on everyone after he is born sounds fairly appealing :cheeky: (no comments from the peanut gallery, then!)

HH -- that's really funny! Your poor hubs!

32 weeks and counting with no nookie...yup, thank god for the gods of battery power!

I hope this isn't TMI, but DH and I have always had a very active sex life so this dry spell has been a real issue for me personally. I never realized how attached my sense of self and value as a "wife" was to pleasing him. Like I said, we tried once in the first trimester unsuccessfully and that was a problem on my part. It was so painful for me. Then as the weeks progressed I tried putting the moves on him again and again and he just wasn't feeling it. I started to get really discouraged about it because I felt like I was being a bad wife and he wasn't sexually attracted to me in my blobby preggo state. Of course I was conveniently forgetting that when DH and I started dating I was 30-40 lbs heavier than I was when I got pregnant, so he's definitely attracted to both the smaller and larger me.

After having a serious heart-to-heart about the situation he came out and told me where his issues were stemming from. When he was in HS he got his gf pregnant. Like typical teenagers they were horny like rabbits and just had sex all the time (hence the pregnancy!). Unfortunately she miscarried around 5 months and while it wasn't related in any way to their active sex life, they never really knew the reason. He told me that once I started getting a real bump he just got irrationally freaked out about us hurting the baby or messing things up. Silly I know, and he admitted it was an irrational fear, but his head still wasn't totally in the game.

Honestly, I was OK with that because while there's definitely still an urge on occasion, my drive is significantly lower than usual. Between that, being tired, and the logistics of trying to work around a basketball, I'm OK with not putting out, as long as I know he's OK with it.

So that's my sorry sex-starved story...

Whoa HH! That's crazy, and such a sad story (mainly the losing the baby at 5 months). Did you just find out that he got his gf pregnant, or did you know that already? Hopefully he's into *other things* besides sex that you guys can do!

I've had a lot of friends tell me their husbands were not into sexy time when they were preggers. It's very interesting. It doesn't bother either of us, but I thought it would bother DH. Then you hear of the guys that are fine with it, then the baby is born, and they get weirded out about doing certain things to their kid's mom! I hope that doesn't happen for us either! I'm sure there's a whole psychology behind it, but I was just telling my DH how much this baby has changed for me already. My digestive system is totally different than pre preggo, my body obviously is different, my emotions are pretty much the same, my hair is different, my skin is different. Then I was reading on the scary Newborn thread that BFing totally drains you of any libido. I told my DH that in preparation, so he wouldn't be shocked. He's thankfully very cool about everything I'm going through.

I knew about the incident in HS before we got married, so it wasn't a surprise. I don't think either of us realized how deeply it affected him past the point of basic grief and loss though. It's clear he feels some amount of guilt and responsibility for the loss even though it had nothing to do with him.
