Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Lynnie - Hi lady! I was wondering where you went off to. Welcome back! So sorry to hear about your labor and tear but I'm happy to hear that things are getting back to normal. I look forward to seeing more of Vincent over on the NB thread!!

geri - Good luck!!!

I'm slightly overweight to begin with. I started off at one weight..lost 5 lbs during the 1st trimester and now I'm up only 1 lb from the original weight when I went in to meet with the coordinator. I still have morning sickness so I think that's causing me not to gain a ton of weight (I gained nearly 30lbs with Evan). I'm also waaay more active then I was with my first baby.

geri~ I'm excited for you!! Good luck!!

Yay for great appts, ladies!!

Geri-oh wow cannot believe it is your turn already. So excited for you and cannot wait to hear all about it :appl:

Congrats Lynnie! love the birth story, and what a gorgeous son you have!

I was the same way with the tearing. C came out in one push, after waiting at 10 cm for 2 hours, and I had third degree tears. They are NOT fun to recover from.

GERI, yaaaaaay for it being your turn!!! Soooo Happy for you; can't wait to see pics of yous sweet lo!! :appl: :appl:

TAOV, yay for 30 weeks and third trimester!!

DEELIGHT, thanks, I hope I have a good supply for the twins too! hehe aww, how exciting hubby is priming the nursery; my hubby is talking paint right now. I have to laugh my hubby is nesting way earlier than me! hehe Yay for Australia Day! What color did you decide on for the nursery?

KAY, you are so sweet; I wasn't going to post about it but I thought it might help others that might make the same mistake as me. How are you?

I can't believe all the snow in the East; stay warm! HAPPY Thursday and have a great weekend!!!

Good Luck Geri - enjoy meeting your baby! Looking forward to the photos!

My younger sister has just trumped the youngest in the fast labour stakes. First contraction at 3pm, left for hospital at 4.30pm, arrived at 5.15pm... rushed on trolley to delivery room and Ben was born an hour ago at 5.45pm.

He is healthy, blonde and well over ELEVEN pounds!

Pandora, congratulations to your sister and hello to Ben! :appl: :wavey: That was a super fast labor and one big boy!

I am so not in the mood to be at work today. I have had an upset stomach since lunch yesterday. I'm not sure if the fish was bad, or if my stomach is just being touchy again. On the upside, our 20-week ultrasound is tomorrow morning. :appl: The machine they use for the 20-week US is much higher def than the one at my OB's office, so we are looking forward to seeing her in better detail. I also know I will feel better once they verify there are no structural problems that might not have been picked up by the amnio genetic screening. I plan to tell people at work about the pregnancy next week. (I may be kidding myself that it is not already obvious.)

My parents are driving over tomorrow for the weekend. A loves when her grandparents visit -- our little ham likes a fresh audience. ;)) Of course, now I have to go into cleaning mode tonight.

I just posted a question about my new DBTY anniversary/B-day project over in Rocky Talk, if you have time to take a look.

Lynnie, great to hear from you - wow, what a story. You’re a hero for going through all of that. Sorry you had to go through all that pain…but congrats on a healthy little bub. So you never ended up getting the epidural and felt all of the tearing and the stitching? Oww!! Your story makes me wonder if I would rather have a C-section than endure what you did…of course you never know how labor is going to go. If it weren’t for the increased risk in future pregnancies, I would be more inclined to have a C-section.

Skippy, sounds like you are doing well. I have no milk whatsoever! I wonder if I will end up getting some.

Geri - hope all is well and you are enjoying your little one! That’s nice that you get 6 months leave. I could take that long and get 1/2 paid (3 months paid), but it’s not standard to take that long here so I’m afraid of getting completely derailed at work. Do you plan to work part time?

Kay, how was your US? Hope it went well! I did the same thing about not telling at work until after the anatomy scan although that was pushing it and people already suspected. I’m not planning on starting my leave until I go into labor (hoping that doesn’t happen while I’m at work). I’ve been working on this deal that won’t close, so I feel unsettled with not being finished yet. I billed 250 hours in December and am going at almost the same pace since this deal hasn’t closed, and that’s just not sustainable with a baby - so I really don’t know how things will be once I return. Are your hours pretty regular? I imagine it must be hard to keep A on a schedule if your schedule varies by the day.

Dee, who knows you could go before me!

Had my US and everything is w/in range, baby is approx. 6 lbs +/- 1 lb (who knows whether that is accurate) at 36w3 (wow, that sounds really late). The head is measuring 9cm which seems frighteningly large to me. He hasn’t dropped into my pelvis yet and no dilation or anything, so I still have awhile to wait, which I don’t mind (because I want to finish things at work).

Catluver, my US is tomorrow. With my first, waiting until 20 weeks to tell wasn't so bad, but with this one, I feel like I started showing earlier thanks to shot ab muscles. You can hide quite a bit with a careful choice of blouse and suit jacket, but my suit pants are almost unbearable at this point. I can't wait to switch to elastic waistbands next week, lol. My firm offers 3 months of paid leave, with the option of 3 more months unpaid, but I don't know anyone who took the extra 3 months, except 1 woman several years ago who didn't really want to come back to work and gave notice at the end of the 6 months. I took 3 months off with A, and plan to again. I admit I checked in a lot via phone and e-mail during my first leave. My first year back after mat leave, I worked on an hourly basis and billed about 2/3 as many hours as in previous years. For subsequent years, I negotiated a deal to work 90% of my regular hours for 90% of my standard salary. I think the dip in the economy caused my firm to be more willing to consider lower hour arrangements than they might have been in the past. My hours have had to become very regular. A's daycare (right next door to my office building) is open from 6:30 am to 6 pm. Most days, I drop her off around 8 am and pick her up at 6. If I have big deadlines to deal with, then DH will pick A up so I can work late the nights I need to. I couldn't handle 200+ hour months anymore, but I know parents who do it. (I chose a firm that only requires 1800 billable hours per year for partners, rather than going for a firm with higher hours and salaries.)

ETA: I worked a day or two past my EDD. My last day was a Friday and I was induced the next Monday & gave birth on Tuesday. I totally understand your concern about going into labor at work. The last couple weeks I was sitting on a towel to protect my leather chair in case my water broke, lol. It sounds like your little one is a nice size for 36 weeks.

Pandora~ Congrats to your sister and ;( :errrr:  to the 11 lbs!! I thought ten pounders were rough!

:wavey: to all of you amazing moms to be! I have been following your stories but I didn't feel right jumping into this thread until now. DH and I are expecting our first on August 12 of this year. We are super excited, especially as tomorrow I will be 12 weeks!
I look forward to getting to know you and cheering you on through this awesome process.

MODERNSPARKLER, Yay, happy 12 weeks; glad you joined us!! Welcome to this thread!!

KAY, have a good us tomorrow!! I love your diamond project, can't wait to see what you decide!

CATLUVER, you are getting so close, how exciting!!! 6 lbs is great!! Happy 36 weeks!

wow Pandora that is crazy fast!! congrats to your sister! and 11lbs WOW!

Skippy, I didn't even realize your milk could come in that early... is it because they are twins? You're around ~20+ weeks right? Or am I way off? I don't even think mine came in til after I gave birth, because I think I was checking the last few weeks. Anyway hope the infection clears up quick.

Modernsparkler, congrats on reaching 12 weeks -- you are almost through the first trimester! :appl: Welcome to the thread. :wavey:

Skippy, IIRC I started having occasional leaks towards the end of the 2nd tri last time. It didn't happen very often, maybe once every few weeks prior to birth. Thanks for your imput on my project. I don't know why I am so indecisive lately.

Hey, welcome to the thread! :wavey:

Kay, I think an hourly basis would be great, but my firm doesn’t offer that. I plan to do 80% of hours and salary, with no adjustments made either way which seems standard but not necessarily fair…if you bill more, you don’t necessarily get paid more, but if you bill less, you’ll be penalized through comp and the review process. My firm also only requires 1800, but as you know it’s almost never the steady 40 hrs/week, but feast or famine that you can’t really control, which will make part-time a challenge. My chair is cheap, but I’m more worried about going into labor at work, getting to the hospital safely and not being a spectacle.

I noticed a lot more BHs last night but not consistent during the day…and a little bit of discharge more than before. Eek!

I do understand not wanting to be a spectacle at work, where it is important to command respect. My office is 15 minutes from my hospital, so I did not worry much about that. I gave my secretary a typed list of very specific instructions in case there was an emergency and I wasn't with it enough to handle everything myself. The instructions included what hospital the ambulance should take me to, my OB's name and numbers, insurance information, DH's cell and work #s, and instructions specific to my condition (placentia previa) that she could give to the paramedics. It may have been over the top, but I had been warned that getting to the hospital fast was essential if the placenta started to separate, and that an internal exam could make problems worse - so I did not want anyone treating me who did not know my situation.

CatLuver you are getting so close! So excited for you. I feel the same as you, everyone keeps asking me if I want to have him early, but no way! I was 3 weeks early and my Mom was in total denial that it was real labor. I would be the same way! I have too much at work to get ready for.

Skippy, I never knew that either! My n*ps are starting to hurt (ha sorry, TMI). Wild ride, isn't it?

Hope everyone is doing well! I am getting excited, I have my labor classes this weekend, then my breastfeeding classes (one for working moms!) I am such a nerd but can't wait to learn about it all.

We had the US today, but the technician would not tell us much other than that my OB would have the report by Tuesday. She did not run from the room for a consult, so we are assuming everything is okay. Considering my expanding waistline, I decided it was finally time to deliver the news at work, so I told the heads of the 2 departments for which I work, and they both seemed very happy for me. It will be nice to finally be able to wear comfy mat clothes next week!

Kay thanks for the well wishes :). If you have an upset tummy peppermint tea can help soothe it and either rice crackers or some toast - hope you feel better soon. Also with the ultrasound all the ones I had the US tech's are not allowed to say anything and make the ob or doctor give you the result - I wouldn't worry :)

Geri I know you will be holding your little one right about know - hopefully she is asleep and your having a good and speedy recovery :). Can't wait to see pics and hear your birth story :):):):)

Skippy My sister had a singleton and I remember her supply came in very early around 4-6 months so it is not unheard of - nursery colour is still undecided :P

Pandora Congrats on your new nephew Ben - OMG 11 pounds good to hear he is healthy :) - your sisters labour sounds awesome nice and quick :) hope she is doing well :)

Cat Our due dates are close but i hope you go first who knows maybe they will be born on the same day - I am so okay waiting a longer at this stage

Modern Welcome :) and congrats on nearly being in the second tri :)

Miscka Good luck with your classes :)

How to make a preggo feel better

1. Get your hair done - OMG I feel like a real person again :D 3mths is the longest I have gone without a colour and a cut and it looked HORRID now I look good again :D
2. Have hubby give you foot massages :D
3. NAP's :)

Well they made me feel better - I feel human again :)

ETA found out tonight if I lie on my back and am giggling my belly button goes from an innie to an outie LOL - this amused me to no end tonight :)

Also for ladies that belly buttons did go to an outie how far along were you - I used to have a deep belly button - not so deep now however I am just past 34wks and it is still an innie and I don't think it will be an outie

Hope your all enjoying your weekends :)

Deelight, I also have a deep innie, and I think it finally popped in the last month with my first. I was shocked by how much my belly grew in that final few weeks versus the earlier months. I just got my hair cut a few days ago, and I feel so much better now too -- I let it go way too long. I remember how much I enjoyed the foot massages and naps with the first pregnancy -- they are just not happening this time around with a 2-year-old underfoot. I have to find time to schedule a pedicure and also a massage with this great massage therapist who specializes in pregnant women. Good luck picking a color!

Thanks all for the warm welcome.
Dee: I have a highlight scheduled for this Friday and I am SO looking forward to it. My dark roots have made quite the appearance since my hair is growing so fast!

Baby Tuckins has a name! Ethan Alexander. ::)

Tuckins--that's a great name!

Modern--welcome and congrats!

Sorry I haven't time to go through all the threads I missed, hope everyone is doing well!

Just wanted to stop in and see what you all thought about this--sorry it's long.

I have a group of 5 women that I usually hang out with on Thursday nights for dinner and Grey's Anatomy/Private Practice. We have been doing this for years. One of the other women is married and after quite a bit of scandal in their marriage--they both constantly cheated on each other for years-- they decided that a baby would stabilize their marriage. Ok, whatever floats their boats. When we got pregnant in August she had officially been trying for a year at that time--her struggles were very public and she told all of us if we got pregnant before her, she would kill us.

When I started telling people that we were pregnant I told her first, in person, and try to be as sensitive as possible. Later, I was told that by 2 of the other women how I needed to apologize to doing this to A and how I was so rude and did this to her...not sure how this worked. I never received congratulations and for the first 4 months, none of these three women ever asked me how I was doing or anything. I also had a blog at the time documenting the journery which they said was just me gloating so I eventually moved it and made it private. It was really hard in the beginning of the pregnancy because of the morning sickness, my DH's back and his surgery, and the roommate situation and I didn't feel like they were friends to me at all. Mostly because I think when you are friends with someone you are happy for them regardless of your own situation. You don't try to turn other people against them for what should be a happy event in their lives. So I made the conscious decision to stay away from them and their negativity. I've only really talked to the other two women who have been nice about it all.

Fast forward to today, when I receive an email from A stating that she is pregnant. YAY :appl:. I'm really happy for her. I ask her how far along she is and how she's feeling etc. The other women were copied and the congratulations were pouring in. Good, I'm glad for her. Then one of the girls suggest that we all go out and celebrate A's pregnancy.

Now I feel like a complete jerk for saying this but I am really hurt. I feel like all pregnancies should be celebrated and instead mine was shunned because it was during A's struggle. Now that she's pregnant we all seem to have to roll out the red carpet and celebrate her pregnancy while no one ever talks about my pregnancy and I feel like I'm always "in hiding" because I don't want to seem like I'm throwing it in anyone's face (as I was told I was doing because I did try to talk about it at first). I'm not saying I don't want to go out and celebrate, I am just hurt that this wasn't even an option when I announced mine. I just really feel hurt and disappointed. Not to mention, we are now a few months out from the EDD and my shower is coming up. Of these women only 1 has RSVPd for the shower--in fact she is helping to set up the shower. But that's it.

I guess what I'm wondering is if you were me, would you be upset too? Or am I the crazy hormonal pregnant lady? I truly am very happy for her, but I also don't feel like I need to go the extra mile for her because of the amount of negativity she brought to my pregnancy and also the negativity the others brought...so much so I don't EVER talk to them about the baby.

KAY, yay for your 20 week US; sorry they didn't tell you about it but it sounds like it went well! How exciting to see your baby!!

MODERN, glad you are with us. How are you feeling?

MISCKA, you are not a nerd; I would be super excited too!!! I was thinking of calling to find out when mine are offered so I can start planning ahead. How did your classes go? Yay!!! It is a wild ride because one never feels like you know if what you are experiencing is a normal part of pregnancy or something that one should ask about? lol

DEELIGHT, you are so cute; I am glad you got some naps, massage and hair done. You deserve it momma!! LOL about the belly button.

TUCKINS, yay for a beautiful boys name!!!

CUPCAKE MUFFIN, oh my gosh I would be hurt too. I personally think you were very considerate of your one friend and to have you hide your pregnancy or expect you to wait to get pregnant is a little nutty. I can understand them wanting you to be supportive to your friend (sounds like you are) but that would upset me too. I think they should have celebrated both your pregnancy's. I am sorry. I think all pregnancies should be celebrated. In fact around the time I was telling family I was pregnant I had 2 family funerals and I thought I wouldn't mention it but family at the funerals they kept congratulating me (which I thought they wouldn't based on the occasion which was okay with me) but people should be excited for you! huge hugs

Okay I have a question. I have felt great for the most part but just in the past few days my pelvis area feels a bit of a burning/pressure sensation. Not sure if that is normal or something else is going on. I thought it might be a bladder infection (I have had them in the past and they don't feel like this) or it could be the babies nesting lower? I can call my OB office tomorrow if it sounds weird. Thanks in advance!
Hope everyone has a great weekend and is relaxing!!! :wavey:

Cupcake, I'd be hurt too!!! FWIW I'm really excited for you! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: Know that on my end there is a little celebration for baby cupcakemuffin! You've had such a rough year with your DH's accidents etc. I am so excited for your little bundle of joy!!!
XOXO and huge hugs,
Bella

(Who is super psyched b/c she just got a great condition Baby Jogger City Elite for $50 on craigslist ;)) )

Tuckins, what a great choice!

Cupcake, gosh, I thought stuff like that was over in high school! I guess they just felt like they were protecting your friend but they need to get a grip!

Cupcake, you did absolutely nothing wrong. Just because she was trying to get pregnant, you should refrain from getting pregnant? That's ridiculous. I understand how it might have been hard for her to hear about others getting pregnant, but it's the real world and people get pregnant every day. Deal with it. Also, the other "friends" who suggested you had wronged your friend in someway- they are straight up wrong and I might have to tell them exactly how I feel, if I were in your position. I'm glad that she was finally able to get pregnant, hopefully she will be able to calm down now.
